鉄のわな

Iron trap

　麻布あざぶの、とあるやしき町に、百メートル四方もあるような大邸宅があります。
　四メートルぐらいもありそうな、高い高いコンクリート塀べいが、ズーッと、目もはるかにつづいています。いかめしい鉄のとびらの門をはいると、大きなソテツが、ドッカリと植うわっていて、そのしげった葉の向こうに、りっぱな玄関が見えています。

 There is an about 100 meter square big mansion in a luxury residential area.

4 meter high concrete walls stretch away far and far. Solemn iron gates are there to get in and through the leaves of a stout palm tree, a grand frond door is to be seen.

　いく間まともしれぬ、広い日本建てと、黄色い化粧れんがをはりつめた、二階建ての大きな洋館とが、かぎの手にならんでいて、その裏には、公園のように、広くて美しいお庭があるのです。
　これは、実業界の大立者おおだてもの、羽柴壮太郎はしばそうたろう氏の邸宅です。

Massive Japanese buildings and two story western buildings with yellow beautiful bricks are there at right angle to each other. There is a vast splendid garden behind.

 This is a big business leader, Hashiba Soutarou's mansion.

　羽柴家には、今、ひじょうな喜びと、ひじょうな恐怖とが、織りまざるようにして、おそいかかっていました。

The Hashibas were surprised by a great joy and greay terror interlacingly.

　喜びというのは、今から十年以前に家出をした、長男の壮一そういち君が、南洋ボルネオ島から、おとうさんにおわびをするために、日本へ帰ってくることでした。

The joy was that more than ten years long lost oldest son, Souichi is coming back from Southern island Borneo to apologize to his father.

　壮一君は生来せいらいの冒険児で、中学校を卒業すると、学友とふたりで、南洋の新天地に渡航し、何か壮快な事業をおこしたいと願ったのですが、父の壮太郎氏は、がんとしてそれをゆるさなかったので、とうとう、むだんで家をとびだし、小さな帆船はんせんに便乗して、南洋にわたったのでした。

Souich was born to be an adventurer. When he graduated a junor high school he hoped to go southern country and start a good buisiness with his friend. Still, with his father never giving him a permission, he just ran away from home, got a travel to southern islands on a small sailing ship.

　それから十年間、壮一君からはまったくなんのたよりもなく、ゆくえさえわからなかったのですが、つい三ヵ月ほどまえ、とつぜん、ボルネオ島のサンダカンから手紙をよこして、やっと一人まえの男になったから、おとうさまにおわびに帰りたい、といってきたのです。

Ten years past since then without any letter from Souich and they didn't know where he had been. But suddenly, three months ago there was a letter form Sandakan saying that he'd got success finaly and would like to come home and apologize to his father.

　壮一君は現在では、サンダカン付近に大きなゴム植林をいとなんでいて、手紙には、そのゴム林の写真と、壮一君の最近の写真とが、同封してありました。もう三十歳です。鼻下びかにきどったひげをはやして、りっぱな大人になっていました。

Now Souich is running a big gum tree plantation he said and there were some photos of the plantation and recent Souich himself. He is now 30 years old wears mannered bear under his nose, old enough to be an adult.

　おとうさまも、おかあさまも、妹の早苗さなえさんも、まだ小学生の弟の壮二そうじ君も、大喜びでした。下関しものせきで船をおりて、飛行機で帰ってくるというので、その日が待ちどおしくてしかたがありません。

　His fater, mother, little sister Sanae and young son, school boy Souji are excited. He was going to leave the ship at Shimonoseki and will fly back, so they can't wait for him.

 

間違いや、もっといい書き方があると思いますので、教えてください。
