Members of Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) boarded the U.S. military's MV-22 Osprey, the controversial tilt-rotor aircraft, for the first time this week as part of joint exercises. However, Japan's first use of the transport planes didn't take place in Okinawa, where the stationing of the potentially unsafe Ospreys has resulted in heavy protest from locals, but rather at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California, where, along with the U.S., troops train in the recapturing of an isolated island.

Thousands protest U.S. Ospreys in Tokyo rallies
National Adam Westlake on Nov 5 2012No Comments
This past Sunday saw thousands of Japanese citizens come out to gather in Tokyo to protest the recent deployment of the MV-22 Osprey aircrafts in Okinawa by the U.S. Military. While public demonstrations against the controversial transport planes aren't new, this instance is new in that its one of the first to be held in Japan's capital, as well as following a series of crimes in Okinawa committed by servicemen that has anti-U.S. military sentiment at an all-time high.
