果たして、インドにとってのこの度の新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大は、どのようなインパクトを与えているのだろうか、またこれからのこれら二つの事象の関係はどのようになっていくのだろうか。
まずは、2020年4～6月期の実質GDP成長率が、前年同期比でマイナス23.9%と、過去の統計を遡れる1997年以降で、四半期としては、過去最悪の結果となった。
こうなったのには、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大によって、3月下旬から5月末までインド全土でロックダウンであったのが大きい。それによって国内の必需品の製造や、広範囲でのサービスの生産活動が制限された。さらに外出の自粛も重なることで、消費活動も停滞した結果だという。
