都立高校入試用語を英訳する

今回は受験に直接関係ない記事。

都教育委員会は「都立高校入試の仕組み」の英語版を作成している。

そこからクイズを出してみたので、気軽に読んで欲しい。

いずれも都立高校や受験に関係ある言葉だ。

◆初級

1.　exam results released 

examは試験のこと。examinationの略。来年3月2日とか。

2.　foreign students residing in Tokyo 

foreignは受験生なら絶対に覚えておくべき単語。「外国の」という意味。

3.　second round of admissions

八潮、大森が常連。

4.　recommendation-based admissions

ノーヒントで。

5.　individual interview

インタビューされます

6.　group discussions

来年度、ほとんどやらない

7.　self-introduction card

実際は紙ぺら

8.　make-up examination

普通は受けられない

都立受験での意味を考えよう。

単語の意味を知って入れば、そのまま。

一般入試なら1000。オーバーオールやないか！

7.　home economics

都立高校入試にはない。

来年、郵送します。

◆中級　答え

1.　part-time

定時制。全日制はfull-time

2.　essay

小論文。作文はcomposition と訳している。

3.　submission of application

入学願書受付。広くは「申請書の提出」の意味。

submissionは「服従」の意味があり、そこから関節技＝サブミッションと訳されたようだ。

4.　withdrawal

取下げ。願書取下げは正確には application withdrawal 

5.　correspondence high school

通信制高校

6.　overall score 

総合得点

7.　home economics

家庭科。技術科は technical arts

日本語の方の正式名を覚えている人がそうそういない

長いからわかりやすいかも。

エンカレッジスクールに関係あり。

genderで気づくかな。

4.　tuition fee

私立高校にもある。

5.　credit system 

23区内には全日制が8つある。

6.　disclosure of a candidate’s score

オカネはかかりません。
