If I were to combine study abroad and conduct research at the same time, I would like to apply for UCI Costa Rica Program and go to Costa Rica. There, my research topic would be global sustainability. Nowadays, global warming and sustainable development probably may be the most heated discussed topic. And according to one research that I have read, unsustainable development pattern in the rainforest is one of the major forces leading to global warming. Costa Rica, as a country located in the tropical areas and the intersection of Central and South America, covers an area of only 0.03% of the world's land area, but has abundant biological species. But on the other hand, in South America, there are about 41% areas that were once forests become oil palm plantations by 1989, for the huge economical value of oil palm plantations (Vijay et al, 2016, p 1). Also, during the manufacturing of oil palms, it can also release greenhouse gases. At first, through the experience of study abroad in Costa Rica, I have a chance to confirm what the research depicts happen in the rains forest in Costa Rica in person. I can see whether there is a great change of land use conversion there. In general, researches on global sustainability are depicting a very general picture from a very descriptive perspective, just like the study done by Vijay et al in 2016. They just give people cold data. But what I want to pursue is an anthropological approach. I hope to investigate the global sustainability issue by talking with the local people, and giving some interviews. For example, I will add questions like “do you have any idea about the global sustainability and global warming?”, “do you feel that is there any change of environment when the forests are gone: and “how much can you make by planting oil palms one year?” By doing this, I can not only gather some first-hand data, but also can probe into the reason that they cut down the trees and plant oil palms and the local people’s attitude towards such issue.
Studying abroad in Costa Rica can help me to carry out and explore this research topic greatly. Without being there, I can never have a chance to interact with the local people and learn about their thoughts of global sustainability and global warming. As for benefits I might expect from conducting research while abroad, it is at first a further understanding of relationship between global sustainability and global warming. Then, in addition to the understanding of phenomenon, it provides a chance to view the socioeconomic situation of Costa Rica leading to sustainable development by cutting down trees to get money and the reaction and attitudes of the locals towards such issue. Also, I can expand my thinking of research: it is not necessarily done in the labs or through reading the book, and sometimes, researchers need to view the problem in research in real context with real people. it is especially true for studies in the field of social science area.

英国essay代写-the Treasure Voyages

Zheng He went to more than 30 countries in his expedition to the west. Except Ryukyu, Champa, Chenla, Siam, Ceylon etc, all the other countries were in the Islamic areas. Therefore, the key point of the foreign relationships in Ming Dynasty was to expand material and cultural communication between China and Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, North Africa and so on. Ming Dynasty was the most-developed country in porcelain producing around the world. Zheng He’s voyages were full-loaded with Chinese porcelain as important foreign trade goods. Moreover, blue and white porcelain with white background and blue patterns symbolizes nobility and purity, which meet Muslim’s traditional fond for white and blue. And naturally blue and white porcelain was popular with residents in the Islamic areas. Under their keen needs of blue and white porcelain, the production of it developed fast. To meet the consumer psychology in the Islamic world, the molding of the blue and white porcelain took in the Islamic elements and many new forms appeared. Obviously it is influenced by Zheng He’s voyages. The following is to exemplify it with examples.
Ewer Blue Flower Twisting Branches (picture 4.1) is now collected in Beihongxi Museum in Taibei, Taiwan. It was made in Yongle period in Ming Dynasty with the height of 32.6cm, long neck, deep bottle body, round foot, square near the opening, and a long round flat ear-like handle. The ewer has six layers of motifs —— fret, flower, vortex, lotiform ornamentation, peony twisting braches, and rolled grass motifs from the opening, and Persian carved in the neck. Obviously, this was sold in Ming Dynasty, with typical Persian style. Similar bronze wares were popular in Central Asia and West Asia. Dated back to the 6th century, Persia had similar gold and silver wares. A brass ewer (picture 4.2) made in the12th century by Afghanistan which is collected in the British Museum and Afghanistan brass silver kettle is similar to the above-mentioned ewer. We see their relations in origin.
There is a long history of the communication between the ancient China and Persia, and the following Arabic world. Chinese cultures have interacted with Islamic cultures since thousands of years ago. They interact, mutually promote and develop. As long as Sui Dynasty, Chinese arts have been influenced by Persia in the West Asia., especially in the porcelain which takes in many positive elements in forms and forming new style of the exotic mood. So it greatly promoted the development of the porcelain art. China communicated with the West Asia more frequently since Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasty. The Islamic culture had a deeper and greater impact on the ancient Chinese arts. Zhenghe’s voyages to the west in Ming Dynasty inherited the good tradition of communicating with other countries, and put forward the friendly communication to a new peak unparalleled, which not only brought a deep influence on arts in the early Ming Dynasty. Under such background, Yongxuan blue and white porcelain (porcelain made in the era of Yongle Emperor and Xuande Emperor) emerged at that moment.
4.2 Export trade of Longquan Celadon in Zhejiang
The Longquan Yao is a famous celadon yao in ancient China. It is located in Longquan County in the southwest part of Zhejiang Province which was named Chuzhou in the ancient era, so Longquan Celadon was also called Chuzhou Celadon or Chu Celadon. Longquan County is abundant with celadon resources. Kiln factories spread in both sides of the Oujiang River, so the water transportation is convenient. Nowadays more than 300 yao sites have been discovered in Dayao, Jincun, Xikou and other places.
There is a long history of Longquan Yao firing celadon. Song Dynasty was the golden age for Longquan Celadon and then it gradually declined. But Longquan Celadon was still fired in Ming Dynasty and it was even made for the royal court. According to Code of Great Ming Dynasty, “In the 26th year of Huwu Emperor (1393), all fired wares should made in mode and count the labor and materials.”. In the early Ming Dynasty, Longquan Celadon was not only for the royal court but also sold to foreign courtiers in large quantities. In Illustrated Book of Ancient Chinese Porcelain, Fe Ming says, “Longquan celadon was mass produced in the early Ming Dynasty. A large quantity of wares, such as platters, pots with lids and so on, are very similar to the blue and white porcelain in Jingdezhen. Longquan Celadon was not only sold on domestic market but also sold overseas. There are Longquan celadon excavated in Japan, the Philippines, Pakistan, India, Egypt and so on. ” (picture 4.28) Code of Great Ming Dynasty also records that the court made the rules that each celadon platter was sold 150 guan, from which we can see how famous and precious the celadon were.
A large number of Longquan celadon have been founded overseas and especially the collection in Topkapi Museum is the most super in quantity and quality. There are more than1350 items in Topkapi Palace, most of which are Longquan celadon produced in Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty. Most of these celadon items are big platters, bowls, bottles, kettles and so on. There are two reasons for the popularity of celadon in the Arabic areas.
Firstly, it is the result of the Arabic eating habits. The Arabic eating habits are different from these in China. There are small cups, bowls, plates placed on the Chinese dining-table. But many people enjoy a dish and the staple foods in the Arabic countries such as Osman, Persia, Syria and so on. So the dishes and staple foods are put in big bowls and plates and then put on the dinning-table. According to the historical records, two meals are served in Topkapi Palace. One meal is served between the morning and the noon, and the other is served at dusk. While eating, people can sit cross-legged or on their kneels around the round bronze plate with short supporting feet on the dining-table. Water is poured in for people to wash their hands before and after the meal and then they wipe their hands dry with the towel. The sitting places are not set up. The dishes are served one by one in big plates on the center of the table. All people around the table get the food from the big plate.
Secondly, besides the reason mentioned above, the reason for the popularity of celadon in the Ottoman Empire and Near East, Middle East areas is that people believe that such wares have magic function. Such ware can judge whether the food is poisoned or not. According to the historical records, once the celadon wares meet the poisoned food, they will crack or vapor oozes from them. Although the origin and the reason for the statement cannot be checked, people believe it without doubt. And the statement has been widely passed on until nowadays.
The celadon produced in Longquan Yao in the early Ming Dynasty was mostly used for sea trades. Official wares were partly used for foreign trades. One part of big plates made in Yongle official factories were specially produced for Zheng He’s voyages. As official wares, they were awarded to the rulers in the places where Zheng He went.
From 1405-1433, Zhen He’s seven voyages to the west were the peak time for Chinese porcelain foreign trades. The entourage such as Fei Xin, Ma Huan, Gong Zhen recorded this in detail.
6 Conclusion
We can draw the conclusions from the argumentation above.
Firstly, Zheng He’s expeditions to the west promote the foreign trades of porcelain in Ming Dynasty.
Zheng He’s voyages to the west exploited broad oversea markets, promoted the development of porcelain foreign trades in Jingdezhen, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and so on. The voyages also improved the living standard of foreign people. Meanwhile, Zheng He brought in smalt and the Islamic elements, which positively impacted the porcelain manufacturing in our country.
Secondly, masses of porcelain products were sold overseas, which increased the national income.
The porcelain in Ming Dynasty played an important role in foreign trades. It can not only earn high profits, but also get precious foreign specialties and jewelries in return, and serve as reward items. So it could let the metallic currency less outflow, and in fact increase the national income.
Thirdly, there is the interaction between Zheng He’s voyages and foreign trade in porcelain.
Zheng He’s voyages to the west promotes the foreign trades in porcelain. The trade surplus from the porcelain trades was an important national income. The porcelain trades brought in sufficient national income which in return supported Zheng He’s voyages economically. So there is interaction between Zheng He’s voyages and the foreign trades in porcelain.

Reference

Reference
Reference
