これを受けて、クリス・マーフィー上院議員（民主党）は連邦議会上院で演説し、「いったい我々は何をしているんだ」と同僚議員に強い調子で呼びかけた。マーフィー議員の地元コネチカット州では2012年にサンディー・フック小学校で乱射事件があり、20歳の実行犯に生徒・職員が計26人殺害された。そのうち20人は5歳や6歳の幼い生徒だった。

マーフィー議員は今回の事件を受けて、「我々は何のためにここにいるんだ。存亡の危機にかかわるこれほどの問題を解決するために、ここにいるのでないなら。この事態は、避けがたいものではない」と他の上院議員に訴え、銃規制の強化に協力するよう「懇願」すると述べた。

自衛隊法を改正し、憲法25条の生存権を根拠に専守防衛の自衛隊を規定しよう！
憲法を改正しなくとも自衛のためであれば核ミサイルも持てます。
攻撃の予兆があれば先制攻撃もできます。憲法改正は米国と戦争をするためです。
欧米諸国は日本の憲法改正に「ＮＯ」を言うべきです。
占領された竹島の奪い返すことは現行憲法で可能です。
現行憲法で「自衛権」をフルに使うべきです。

私は戦後、連合軍（アメリカ）の下で、自由、民主主義、人権の尊重そして国際法を遵守する、
