イザヤ書１３章

アモズの子イザヤが見たバビロンの重荷。
1 アモツの子イザヤの見たバビロンに対する宣告。
2 あなたがたは高い山の上に旗を立て、彼らに向かって声をあげ、手を振って、彼らが高貴な者の門に入るようにしなさい!
2 はげ山の上に旗を掲げ、彼らに向かって声をあげ、手を振って、彼らを貴族の門に、入らせよ。
3 わたしはわが聖なる者に命じ、わが力ある者をわが怒りのために呼び、わが誇り高き高ぶる者をも呼び寄せた。
4 聞け、山の中の騒ぎ、大いなる民のようだ。諸国の王が集まって、その騒ぎを聞け。万軍の主は戦いの軍勢をつかわされる。
5 彼らは遠い国から、天の果てから、主も、またその憤りの武器をもって、全地を滅ぼすために来る。
6 あなたがたは吠えなさい、主の日が近づいて、全能者から滅びが来るからだ。
7 それゆえ、すべての手は弛み、すべての人の心は溶ける。
8 彼らはおののき、痛み、苦しみが彼らをとらえ、苦しみの中の女のように苦しみ、互いに愕然とし、その顔は炎の顔となるであろう。
9 見よ、主の日が来る、残酷で、怒りに満ち、地を荒廃させ、その罪人をその外に滅ぼすためである。
10 天の星とその星座とはその光を与えず、太陽はその出て行くところを暗くし、月はその光を輝かせない。
11 わたしは世の人々の悪と、悪人の不義とを見舞い、高ぶる者の横柄をやめさせ、暴君の高慢を低くする。
12 わたしは人を純金よりもまれな者とし、人をオフィルの純金よりもまれな者とする。
13 それゆえ、わたしは万軍の主の怒りと、その激しい怒りの日のために、天を震わせ、地をその所から揺り動かすであろう。
14 そして追いかけられたガゼルのように、また人が集めない羊のように、彼らはみな自分の民にかえり、みな自分の国に逃げ去るであろう。
15 見出された者はみな突き破られ、捕えられた者はみな剣で倒れる。
16 彼らの乳飲み子もその目の前で打ち砕かれ、彼らの家は荒らされ、彼らの妻は荒らされる。
17 見よ、わたしはメデスを彼らに向かって奮い立たせ、彼らは銀を顧みず、金を喜ばない。
18 彼らの弓は若者を打ち砕き、胎の実を憐れむことなく、彼らの目は子を惜しまない。
19 王国の栄光、カルデアの誇りの美であったバビロンは、神がソドムとゴモラを滅ぼされた時のようになるであろう。
20 それは決して人が住むことがなく、代々住むこともなく、アラビア人もそこに天幕を張ることがなく、羊飼いもそこに巣を作ることがない。
21 しかし山猫はそこに横たわり、その家にはフェレットが満ち、ダチョウはそこに住み、サテュルスはそこで踊るであろう。
22 ジャッカルはその城で吠え、野犬は楽しい宮の中で鳴くであろう。

4 聞け。おびただしい民にも似た山々のとどろきを。聞け。寄り合った王国、国々のどよめきを。万軍の主が、軍隊を召集しておられるのだ。
5 彼らは遠い国、天の果てからやって来る。彼らは全世界を滅ぼすための、主とその憤りの器だ。
6 泣きわめけ。主の日は近い。全能者から破壊が来る。
7 それゆえ、すべての者は気力を失い、すべての者の心がしなえる。
8 彼らはおじ惑い、子を産む女が身もだえするように、苦しみと、ひどい痛みが彼らを襲う。彼らは驚き、燃える顔で互いを見る。
9 見よ。主の日が来る。残酷な日だ。憤りと燃える怒りをもって、地を荒れすたらせ、罪人たちをそこから根絶やしにする。
10 天の星、天のオリオン座は光を放たず、太陽は日の出から暗く、月も光を放たない。
11 わたしは、その悪のために世を罰し、その罪のために悪者を罰する。不遜な者の誇りをやめさせ、横暴な者の高ぶりを低くする。
12 わたしは、人間を純金よりもまれにし、人をオフィルの金よりも少なくする。
13 それゆえ、わたしは天を震わせる。万軍の主の憤りによって、その燃える怒りの日に、大地はその基から揺れ動く。
14 追い立てられたかもしかのようんじ、集める者のいない羊の群れのようになって、彼らはおのおの自分の民に向かい、おのおの自分の国に逃げ去る。
15 見つけられた者はみな、刺され、連れて行かれた者はみな、剣に倒れる。
16 彼らの幼子たちは目の前で八つ裂きにされ、彼らの家は略奪され、彼らの妻は犯される。
17 見よ。わたしは彼らに対して、メディヤ人を奮い立たせる。彼らは銀をものともせず、金をも喜ばず、
18 その弓は若者たちをなぎ倒す。彼らの胎児もあわれます、子どもたちを見ても惜しまない。
19 こうして、王国の誉れ、カルデヤ人の誇らかな栄えであるバビロンは、神がソドム、ゴモラを滅ぼした時のようになる。
20 そこには永久に住む者もなく、代々にわたり、住みつく者もなく、アラビヤ人も、そこには天幕を張らず、牧者たちも、そこには群れを伏させない。
21 そこには荒野の獣が伏し、そこの家々にはみみずくが満ち、そこにはだちょうが住み、野やぎがそこにとびはねる。
22 山犬は、そこのとりでで、ジャッカルは、豪華な宮殿で、ほえかわす。その時が来るのは近く、その日はもう延ばされない。

2 Set ye up an ensign upon the high mountain, lift up the voice unto them, wave the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.
3 I have commanded My consecrated ones, yea, I have called My mighty ones for mine anger, even My proudly exulting ones.
4 Hark, a tumult in the mountains, like as of a great people! Hark, the uproar of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together! The LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.
5 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole earth.
6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
7 Therefore shall all hands be slack, and every heart of man shall melt.
8 And they shall be affrighted; pangs and throes shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman in travail; they shall look aghast one at another; their faces shall be faces of flame.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel, and full of wrath and fierce anger; to make the earth a desolation, and to destroy the sinners thereof out of it,
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light; the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will visit upon the world their evil, and upon the wicked their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the tyrants.
12 I will make man more rare than fine gold, even man than the pure gold of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will make the heavens to tremble, and the earth shall be shaken out of her place, for the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and for the day of His fierce anger.
14 And it shall come to pass, that as the chased gazelle, and as sheep that no man gathereth, they shall turn every man to his own people, and shall flee every man to his own land.
15 Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is caught shall fall by the sword.
16 Their babes also shall be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.
17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who shall not regard silver, and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
18 And their bows shall dash the young men in pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.
19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' pride, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation; neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.
21 But wild-cats shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of ferrets; and ostriches shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
22 And jackals shall howl in their castles, and wild-dogs in the pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.
