主はこう言われます。
「見よ！わたしはバビロンとレブカマイに住む者に対して、滅びの風をおこす。
2 わたしはバビロンによそ者を遣わして、彼女を扇ぎ、その地を空にし、悩みの日に、彼らはその周りに向かっているからだ。
3 弓を射る者はその弓を彼女に向けさせ、帷子を着て彼女に臨ませ、その若者を惜しまず、そのすべての軍勢をことごとく滅ぼす。
4 彼らはカルデア人の地で殺され、その通りで突き破られて倒れる。
5 イスラエルはその神、万軍の主のために、ユダもやめられず、彼らの地はイスラエルの聖なる方に対する罪に満ちているからだ。
6 バビロンの中から逃げ出し、すべての人の命を救い、その不義のために断ち切られないようにしなさい！それは主の復讐の時であり、主は彼女に報いを与えられるからだ。

26 彼らはあなたから隅の石も土台の石も取らず、あなたは永遠に荒れ果てると、主は仰せられる。
27 あなたがたは地に旗を立て、国々の間に角笛を吹き、国々が彼女に対して準備をし、アララト、ミンニ、アシュケナズの王国を彼女に対して呼び集め、彼女に対して元帥を任命し、馬を荒いカンフル剤のように立ち上がらせなさい！

47 それゆえ、見よ、わたしがバビロンの彫像の上に裁きを行う日が来て、その全地は恥じ、そのすべての殺された者はその真ん中に倒れる。
48 その時、天と地と、その中にあるすべてのものは、バビロンのために喜び歌うであろう、主は言われます。
「略奪者が北から彼女に来るからだ。」
49 バビロンがイスラエルの殺された者を倒したように、バビロンには全土の殺された者が倒れる。
50 剣を免れた者よ！行って、立ち止まっていないで、遠くから主を思い起こし、エルサレムを心に浮かべよ！
51 『われわれは恥じて、非難を聞き、混乱がわれわれの顔を覆い、主の家の聖所に、よそ者が入ってきたからだ。
52 それゆえ、見よ１主は言われます。わたしがその彫像の上に裁きを行う日が来た、そしてその全地にわたって、傷ついた者がうめくであろう。
53 バビロンが天に登り、その力の高さを固めようとも、わたしから彼女に捕らわれ人が来る。と主は言われます。
54 バビロンからの叫人、カルデヤの地からの大いなる滅亡とを聞け！
55 主はバビロンを損ない、その中から大声を出して滅ぼし、その波は多くの水のように轟き、その声の響きが発せられるからだ。

59 預言者エレミヤがマセヤの子ネリヤの子セライヤに命じた言葉は、ユダの王ゼデキヤがその治世の第四年にバビロンに行くときに、その子セライヤに命じたものである。さてセライヤは四分儀だった。

1 主はこう仰せられる。「見よ。わたしはバビロンとその住民に対し、破壊する者の霊を奮い立たせ、
2 他国人達をバビロンに送る。彼らはこれを吹き散らし、その国を滅ぼす。彼らは、わざわいの日に、四方からこれを攻める。」
3 射手には弓を張らせ、よろいを着けてこれを襲わせよ。そこの若い男を惜しむことなく、その全軍を聖絶せよ。
4 刺し殺された者達が、カルデヤ人の国に倒れ、突き刺された者達が、そのちまたに倒れる。

15 主は、御力をもって地を造り、知恵をもって世界を堅く建て、英知をもって天を張られた。
16 主が声を出すと、水のざわめきが天に起こる。主は地の果てから雲を上らせ、雨のためにいなずまを造り、その倉から風を出される。
17 すべての人間は愚かで無知だ。すべての金細工人は、偶像のために恥を見る。その鋳た像は偽りで、その中に息がないからだ。
18 それは、むなしいもの、物笑いの種だ。刑罰の時に、それらは滅びる。
19 ヤコブの分け前はこんなものではない。主は万物を造る方。イスラエルは主ご自身の部族。その御名は万軍の主である。
20 「あなたはわたしの鉄槌、戦いの道具だ。わたしはあなたを使って国々を砕き、あなたを使って諸王国を滅ぼす。
21 あなたを使って馬も騎手も砕き、あなたを使って戦車も御者も砕き、
22 あなたを使って男も女も砕き、あなたを使って年寄りも幼い者も砕き、あなたを使って若い男も若い女も砕き、
23 あなたを使って牧者も群れも砕き、あなたを使って農夫もくびきを負う牛も砕き、あなたを使って総督や長官達も砕く。
24 わたしはバビロンとカルデヤの全住民に、彼らがシオンで行ったすべての悪のために、あなたがたの目の前で報復する。―主の御告げ―
25 全地を破壊する、破壊の山よ。見よ。わたしはおまえを攻める。―主の御告げ―わたしはおまえに手を伸べ、おまえを岩から突き落とし、おまえを焼け山とする。
26 だれもおまえから石を取って、隅の石とする者はなく、礎の石とする者もない。おまえは永遠に荒れ果てる。―主の御告げ―
27 この地に旗を掲げ、国々の中に角笛を鳴らせ。国々を整えてこれを攻めよ。アララテ、ミニ、アシュケナズの王国を召集してこれを攻めよ。ひとりの長を立ててこれを攻めよ。群がるばったのように、馬を上らせよ。
28 国々を整えてこれを攻めよ。メディヤ人の王達、その総督やすべての長官達、その支配する全土の民を整えて、これを攻めよ。
29 地は震え、もだえる。主はご計画をバビロンに成し遂げ、バビロンの国を住む者もない荒れ果てた地とされる。
30 バビロンの勇士達は戦いをやめて、とりでの中にすわり込み、彼らの力も干からびて、女のようになる。その住まいは焼かれ、かんぬきは砕かれる。
31 飛脚はほかの飛脚に走り次ぎ、使者もほかの使者に取り次いで、バビロンの王に告げて言う。「都はくまなく取られ、
32 渡し場も取られ、葦の舟も火で焼かれ、戦士達はおじ惑っている。」
33 イスラエルの神、万軍の主が、こう仰せられたからだ。「バビロンの娘は、踏まれるときの打ち場のようだ。もうしばらくで、刈り入れの時が来る。
34 『バビロンの王ネブカデレザルは、私を食い尽くし、私をかき乱して、からの器にした。竜のように私をのみこみ、私のおいしい物で腹を満たし、私を洗い流した。』
35 シオンに住む者は、『私と私の肉親になされた暴虐は、バビロンにふりかかれ』と言え。エルサレムは、『私の血はカルデヤの住民に注がれよ』と言え。」
36 それゆえ、主はこう仰せられる。「見よ。わたしはあなたの訴えを取り上げ、あなたのために報復する。わたしはその海を干上がらせ、その泉をからす。
37 バビロンは石くれの山となり、ジャッカルの住みかとなり、恐怖、あざけりとなる。
38 彼らは共に、若獅子のように叫ぶ。
39 彼らがいらだっているとき、わたしは彼らに宴会を開き、彼らを酔わせて踊らせ、永遠の眠りについて、目ざめないようにする。―主の御告げ―

41 ああ、バビロンは攻め取られ、全地の栄誉となっていた者は捕らえられた。ああ、バビロンは国々の間で恐怖となった。
42 海がバビロンの上にのしかかり、その波のざわめきにそれはおおわれた。
43 その町々は荒れ果て、地は砂漠と荒れた地となり、だれも住まず、人の子が通りもしない地となる。
44 わたしはバビロンでベルを罰し、のみこんだ物を吐き出させる。国々はもう、そこに流れ込むことはない。ああ、バビロンの城壁は倒れてしまった。
45 わたしの民よ。その中から出よ。主の燃える怒りを免れて、おのおの自分のいのちを救え。
46 そうでないと、あなたがたの心は弱まり、この国に聞こえるうわさを恐れよう。うわさは今年も来、その後の年にも、うわさは来る。この国には暴虐があり、支配者はほかの支配者を攻める。
47 それゆえ、見よ、その日が来る。その日、わたしは、バビロンの刻んだ像を罰する。この国全土は恥を見、その刺し殺された者はみな、そこに倒れる。
48 天と地とその中のすべてのものは、バビロンのことで喜び歌う。北からこれに向かって、荒らす者達が来るからだ。―主の御告げ―
49 バビロンは、イスラエルの刺し殺された者達のために、倒れなければならない。バビロンによって、全地の刺し殺された者達が倒れたように。
50 剣からのがれた者よ。行け。立ち止まるな。遠くから主を思い出せ。エルサレムを心に思い浮かべよ。
51 『私達は、そしりを聞いて、はずかしめを受けた。他国人が主の宮の聖所に入ったので、侮辱が私達の顔をおおった。』」
52 「それゆえ、見よ、その日が来る。―主の御告げ―その日、わたしは、その刻んだ像を罰する。刺された者がその全土でうめく。
53 たといバビロンが天に上っても、たとい、そのとりでを高くして近寄りがたくしても、わたしのもとから荒らす者達が、ここに来る。―主の御告げ―」
54 聞け。バビロンからの叫び、カルデヤ人の地からの大いなる破滅の響きを。
55 主がバビロンを荒らして、そこから大いなる声を絶やされるからだ。その波は大水のように鳴りとどろき、その声は鳴りどよめく。
56 荒らす者がバビロンを攻めに来て、その勇士達は捕らえられ、その弓も折られる。主は報復の神で、必ず報復されるからだ。
57 「わたしは、その首長達や、知恵ある者、総督や長官、勇士達を酔わせる。彼らは永遠の眠りについて、目ざめることはない。―その名を万軍の主という王の御告げ―」
58 万軍の主はこう仰せられる。「バビロンの広い城壁は、全くくつがえされ、その高い門も火で焼かれる。国々の民はむなしく労し、諸国の民は、ただ火に焼かれるために疲れ果てる。」
59 マフセヤの子ネリヤの子セラヤが、ユダの王ゼデキヤとともに、その治世の第四年に、バビロンへ行くとき、預言者エレミヤがセラヤに命じたことば。そのとき、セラヤは宿営の長であった。
60 エレミヤはバビロンに下るわざわいのすべてを一つの巻き物にしるした。すなわち、バビロンについてこのすべてのことばが書いてあった。
61 エレミヤはセラヤに言った。「あなたがバビロンに入ったときに、これらすべてのことばをよく注意して読み、
62 『主よ。あなたはこの所について、これを滅ぼし、人間から獣に至るまで住むものがないようにし、永遠に荒れ果てさせる、と語られました』と言い、
63 この書物を読み終わったなら、それに石を結びつけて、ユーフラテス川の中に投げ入れ、
64 『このように、バビロンは沈み、浮かび上がれない。わたしがもたらすわざわいのためだ。彼らは疲れ果てる』と言いなさい。」ここまでが、エレミヤのことばである。

Thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in Leb-kamai, a destroying wind.
2 And I will send unto Babylon strangers, that shall fan her, and they shall empty her land; for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.
3 Let the archer bend his bow against her, and let him lift himself up against her in his coat of mail; and spare ye not her young men, destroy ye utterly all her host.
4 And they shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.
5 For Israel is not widowed, nor Judah, of his God, of the LORD of hosts; for their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.
6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and save every man his life, be not cut off in her iniquity; for it is the time of the LORD'S vengeance; He will render unto her a recompense.
7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in LORD'S hand, that made all the earth drunken; the nations have drunk of her wine, therefore the nations are mad.
8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed, wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.
9 We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed; forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country; for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.
10 The LORD hath brought forth our victory; come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God. 
11 Make bright the arrows, fill the quivers, the LORD hath roused the spirit of the kings of the Medes; because His device is against Babylon, to destroy it; for it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of His temple.
12 Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for the LORD hath both devised and done that which He spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.
13 O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, the measure of thy covetousness.
14 The LORD of hosts hath sworn by Himself: Surely I will fill thee with men, as with the canker-worm, and they shall lift up a shout against thee. 
15 He that hath made the earth by His power, that hath established the world by His wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by His discernment;
16 At the sound of His giving a multitude of waters in the heavens, He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings at the time of the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of His treasuries;
17 Every man is proved to be brutish, for the knowledge--every goldsmith is put to shame by the graven image--that his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
18 They are vanity, a work of delusion; in the time of their visitation they shall perish,
19 The portion of Jacob is not like these; for He is the former of all things, and [Israel] is the tribe of His inheritance; the LORD of hosts is His name. 
20 Thou art My maul and weapons of war, and with thee will I shatter the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;
21 And with thee will I shatter the horse and his rider, and with thee will I shatter the chariot and him that rideth therein;
22 And with thee will I shatter man and woman, and with thee will I shatter the old man and the youth, and with thee will I shatter the young man and the maid;
23 And with thee will I shatter the shepherd and his flock, and with thee will I shatter the husbandman and his yoke of oxen, and with thee will I shatter governors and deputies.
24 And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion, in your sight; saith the LORD. 
25 Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth; and I will stretch out My hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.
26 And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the LORD.
27 Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the horn among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint a marshal against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough canker-worm.
28 Prepare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, the governors thereof, and all the deputies thereof, and all the land of his dominion.
29 And the land quaketh and is in pain; for the purposes of the LORD are performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.
30 The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might hath failed, they are become as women; her dwelling-places are set on fire; her bars are broken.
31 One post runneth to meet another, and one messenger to meet an other, to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter;
32 And the fords are seized, and the castles they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.
33 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while, and the time of harvest shall come for her.
34 Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath set me down as an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his maw with my delicacies; he hath washed me clean.
35 'The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon', shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and: 'My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea', shall Jerusalem say.
36 Therefore thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.
37 And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling-place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.
38 They shall roar together like young lions; they shall growl as lions' whelps.
39 With their poison I will prepare their feast, and I will make them drunken, that they may be convulsed, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD.
40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he-goats.
41 How is Sheshach taken! and the praise of the whole earth seized! How is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
42 The sea is come up upon Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.
43 Her cities are become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.
44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up, and the nations shall not flow any more unto him; yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
45 My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and save yourselves every man from the fierce anger of the LORD.
46 And let not your heart faint, neither fear ye, for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; for a rumour shall come one year, and after that in another year a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.
47 Therefore behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon, and her whole land shall be ashamed; and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.
48 Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the LORD.
49 As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the land.
50 Ye that have escaped the sword, go ye, stand not still; remember the LORD from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.
51 'We are ashamed, because we have heard reproach, confusion hath covered our faces; for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD'S house.' 
52 Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment upon her graven images; and through all her land the wounded shall groan.
53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from Me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.
54 Hark! a cry from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
55 For the LORD spoileth Babylon, and destroyeth out of her the great voice; and their waves roar like many waters, the noise of their voice is uttered;
56 For the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bows are shattered; for the LORD is a God of recompenses, He will surely requite.
57 And I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her governors and her deputies, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. 
58 Thus saith the LORD of hosts: the broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labour for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary. 
59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was quartermaster.
60 And Jeremiah wrote in one book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.
61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah: 'When thou comest to Babylon, then see that thou read all these words,
62 and say: O LORD, Thou hast spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that none shall dwell therein, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.
63 And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates;
64 and thou shalt say: Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary.' Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
