エレミヤ書５０章

主が預言者エレミヤによって、バビロン、カルデアの国について語られた言葉です。
2 あなたがたは諸国の間に宣言し、告げ知らせ、旗を立て、告げて隠さず言いなさい！
「バビロンはとられ、ベルは恥を受け、メロダクは惑わされ、その像は恥を受け、その偶像は惑わされる。」
3 北からある国が彼女に逆らってやって来て、彼女の地を荒れさせ、誰もそこに住まないようにし、人も獣も逃げ去っていなくなりました。
4 主はこのように言われます。
「その日、その時、イスラエルの子孫達は来る。彼らもユダの子孫達も共に来て、泣きながら道を歩み、彼らの神、主を慕う。
5 彼らは顔をそむけてシオンのことを尋ね、『あなたがたは来て、忘れられない永遠の契約で主に結び合いなさい！』と言う。
6 わが民は迷える羊となり、その羊飼いは彼らを迷わせ、山の上に追いやり、山から山へ行き、その安住の地を忘れてしまった。
7 彼らを見つけた者はみな彼らを食い尽くし、彼らの敵は言った。
『私達は罪がない。彼らは正義の住みかである主、すなわち彼らの先祖の望みである主に対して罪を犯したからだ。』
8 バビロンの中から逃げ出し、カルデアの国から出て、群れの前の雌山羊のようになりなさい！
9 見よ！わたしは北の国から大国を集めてバビロンに来させ、彼女に向かって陣を敷き、そこから彼女を奪い、その矢は子を産む力ある者のようになり、誰もむなしく帰ることはない。
10 カルデアは略奪となり、これを略奪する者はみな満足する。主はこう言われる。
11 わが遺産を略奪する者よ！あなたがたは喜ぶから、雌牛のように草に群がり、強い馬のようにいななくからだ。
12 あなたの母は大いに恥じ、あなたを産んだ者は惑わされ、見よ！国々の最も遅れた所は荒野となり、乾いた地となり、砂漠となる。
13 主の怒りのせいで、そこには人が住むことなく、全く荒れ果てる。
バビロンの前を通る者はみな、そのすべてのわざわいに驚き、ののしるであろう。
14 あなたがたはバビロンに対して、その周りに整列し、すべて弓をひいて、彼女を射よ！矢を惜しむな！彼女は主に対して罪を犯したのだから。
15 全面的に彼女に向かって叫べ！彼女は身を投じた。その柱は倒れ、その壁は崩れた。これは主の報復である。彼女に報復せよ！彼女がしたように、彼女にもせよ！
16 バビロンから種を蒔く者を断ち、収穫の時に鎌を使う者を断ち、抑圧する剣を恐れて、みな自分の民にかえり、みな自分の国に逃げ帰るであろう。
17 イスラエルは散らされた羊であって、獅子に追いやられ、はじめは、アッスリヤの王が彼を食い、最後にこのバビロンの王ネブカドレザルがその骨を折った。
18 それゆえ、イスラエルの神、万軍の主はこう仰せられる。
見よ！わたしはアッシリヤの王を罰したように、バビロンの王とその地を罰する。
19 わたしはイスラエルをその牧場に帰し、カルメルとバシャンとで食べ、エフライムの丘とギレアデとでその魂を満足させるであろう。
20 その日、その時、主はこう言われる。
イスラエルの不義は探してもなく、ユダの罪は探してもない。私が残党として残す者を赦すからである。
21 メラタイムの地に対しても、また、ペコドの住民に対しても上って行き、彼らの後を荒らして完全に滅ぼせ！主であるわたしがあなたに命じたすべての事に従いなさい！
22 聞け！ 戦いはその地にあり、大いなる破壊がある。
23 全地の槌はいかにして切り裂かれ、砕かれるか？バビロンはいかにして国々の間で荒涼となったか？
24 バビロンよ！私はあなたのために罠をしかけ、あなたは捕えられ、あなたは気づかなかった。
25 主はその武器庫を開き、その憤りの武器を持ち出された。このことは万軍の主なる神がカルデアの地になさるわざである。
26 四方から彼女に臨み、その穀倉を開き、その山を築き、完全にこれを滅ぼし、その中に何も残さないようにしなさい！
27 その雄牛をすべて殺し、屠るに任せよ！
哀れなことだ。彼らの日が来たのだ。彼らを見舞う時が来たのだ。
28 彼らはバビロンの国から逃れて、私達の神、主の報復をシオンで宣言する。
29 弓を射る者をみな、バビロンにむかって呼び寄せ、その周囲に陣を敷き、その者を逃してはならない。
30 それゆえ、その若者はその広い所で倒れ、その兵卒はその日、すべて沈黙させられる。主はこう言われる。
31 見よ！わたしはあなたに向かっている。最も傲慢な者よ。
万軍の主なる神はこう言われる。
「あなたの日が来た、私があなたを罰する時が来た。
32 最も傲慢な者はつまずき、倒れ、誰も彼を起こすことができない。
わたしはその町に火を放ち、彼のまわりにいる者をすべて食い尽くすであろう。
33 万軍の主はこうこう言われる。
イスラエルの子孫達とユダの子孫達は共に圧迫され、彼らを捕虜とした者はみな、彼らを堅く守り、彼らを放そうとしない。
34 彼らの贖い主は強く、万軍の主はその名である。
このお方は彼らのために弁明して、地に安息を与え、バビロンの住民を動揺させるであろう。
35 主はこう言われる。
剣はカルデヤ人、バビロンの住民、その司達、その知恵者達の上にある。
36 剣はその自慢する者の上にあり、彼らは愚か者となり、剣はその強き者の上にあり、彼らは惑う。
37 剣はその馬とその車とその中にいるすべての混血の民の上にあり、彼らは女のようになり、剣はその財宝の上にあり、彼らは奪われる。
38 その水の上には干ばつがあり、それは干からびる。
39 それゆえ、山猫とジャッカルがそこに住み、ダチョウがそこに住み、もはや永久に人が住むことはなく、代々住むこともないであろう。
40 神がソドムとゴモラおよびその近隣の町々を滅ぼされた時のように、主はこう言われる。
「人はそこに住まず、人の子もそこに住まないであろう。」
41 見よ！北から来る民、大いなる国民、および多くの王が地の果てから呼び集められる。
42 彼らは弓と槍を持ち、残酷で、憐みをもたず、その声は海の鳴る音のようであり、彼らは馬に乗り、戦う者のように整列して、娘バビロンのあなたに立ち向かう。
43 バビロンの王は彼らの名声を聞いて、その手は弱り、苦しみは彼をとらえ、苦しみは産婦のようである。
44 見よ！彼は獅子のようにヨルダンの茂みから、強い住まいに対して上って来る！わたしは突然、彼らをそこから逃がし、選ばれた者を、その上に任命する。
45 それゆえ、あなたがたは主がバビロンに対してすること、およびカルデアの国に対してすることを聞きなさい！
群れの最も小さい者が彼らを引き離し、彼らの住まいは彼らに向かって愕然とする。
46 バビロンを捕える音のために、地は震え、国々の間に叫びが聞かれる。

1 主が預言者エレミヤを通して、バビロンについて、すなわちカルデヤ人の国について語られたみことば。
2 「諸国の民の間に告げ、旗を掲げて知らせよ。隠さずに言え。『バビロンは捕らえられた。ベルははずかしめられ、メロダクは砕かれた。その像ははずかしめられ、その偶像は砕かれた。』
3 なぜなら、北から一つの国がここに攻め上り、この地を荒れ果てさせたからだ。ここには住む者もない。人間から家畜に至るまで逃げ去った。
4 その日、その時、―主の御告げ―イスラエルの民もユダの民も共に来て、歩きながら歩み、その神、主を、尋ね求める。
5 彼らはシオンを求め、その道に顔を向けて、『来たれ、忘れられることのないとこしえの契約によって、主に連なろう』と言う。
6 私の民は、迷った羊の群れでした。その牧者が彼らを迷わせ、山々へ連れ去った。彼らは山から丘へと行き巡って、休み場も忘れてしまいました。
7 彼らを見つける者はみな彼らを食らい、敵は『私たちには罪がない。彼らが、正しい牧場である主、彼らの先祖の望みでした主に、罪を犯したためだ』と言いました。
8 バビロンの中から逃げ、カルデヤ人の国から出よ。群れの先頭に立つやぎのようになれ。
9 見よ。私が、大国の集団を奮い立たせて、北の地からバビロンに攻め上らせる。彼らはこれに向かって陣ぞなえをし、これを攻め取る。彼らの矢は、練達の勇士の矢のようで、むなしくは帰らない。
10 カルデヤは略奪され、これを略奪する者はみな満ち足りる。―主の御告げ―
11 私の相続地を略奪する者たち。あなたがたは楽しみ、こおどりして喜び、穀物を打つ雌の子牛のようにはしゃぎ、荒馬のようにいなないても、
12 あなたがたの母はいたく恥を見、あなたがたを産んだ者ははずかしめを受けた。見よ。彼女は国々のうちの最後の者、荒野となり、砂漠と荒れた地となる。
13 主の怒りによって、そこに住む者はなく、ことごとく廃墟と化する。バビロンのあたりを通り過ぎる者はみな、色を失い、そのすべての打ち傷を見てあざける。
14 すべて弓を張る者よ。バビロンの回りに陣ぞなえをし、これを射よ。矢を惜しむな。彼女は主に罪を犯したのだから。
15 その回りに、ときの声をあげよ。彼女は降伏した。その柱は倒れ、その城壁はこわれた。これこそ主の復讐だ。彼女に復讐せよ。彼女がしたとおりに、これにせよ。
16 種を蒔く者や、刈り入れの時にかまを取る者を、バビロンから切り取れ。しいたげる者の剣を避けて、人はおのおの自分の民に帰り、自分の国へ逃げて行く。」
17 イスラエルは雄獅子に散らされた羊。先にはアッシリヤの王がこれを食らったが、今度はついに、バビロンの王ネブカデレザルがその骨まで食らった。
18 それゆえ、イスラエルの神、万軍の主は、こう仰せられる。「見よ。私はアッシリヤの王を罰したように、バビロンの王とその国を罰する。
19 私はイスラエルをその牧場に帰らせる。彼はカルメルとバシャンで草を食べ、エフライムの山とギルアデで、その願いは満たされる。
20 その日、その時、―主の御告げ―イスラエルの咎は見つけようとしても、それはなく、ユダの罪も見つけることはできない。私が残す者の罪を、私が赦すからだ。」
21 「メラタイムの地、ペコデの住民のところに攻め上れ。彼らを追って、殺し、彼らを聖絶せよ。―主の御告げ―すべて、私があなたに命じたとおりに、行え。」
22 「国中には戦いの声、大いなる破滅。
23 万軍を打った鉄槌は、どうして折られ、砕かれたのか。バビロンよ。どうして国々の恐怖となったのか。
24 バビロンよ。私がおまえにわなをかけ、おまえは捕らえられた。おまえはそれを知らなかった。おまえは見つけられてつかまえられた。おまえが主に争いをしかけたからだ。
25 主はその倉を開いて、その憤りの武器を持ち出された。それは、カルデヤ人の国で万軍の神、主の、される仕事があるからだ。
26 四方からそこに攻め入れ。その穀物倉を開け。これを麦束のように積み上げ、これを聖絶して、何一つ残すな。
27 その雄牛をみな滅ぼせ、ほふり場に下らせよ。ああ。哀れな彼ら。彼らの日、その刑罰の時が来たからだ。」
28 聞け。バビロンの国からのがれて来た者が、シオンで、私たちの神、主の、復讐のこと、その宮の復讐のことを告げ知らせている。
29 射手を呼び集めてバビロンを攻め、弓を張る者はみな、これを囲んで陣を敷き、ひとりものがすな。そのしわざに応じてこれに報い、これがしたとおりに、これをせよ。主に向かい、イスラエルの聖なる方に向かって高ぶったからだ。
30 「それゆえ、その日、その若い男たちは町の広場に倒れ、その戦士もみな、断ち滅ぼされる。―主の御告げ―
31 高ぶる者よ。見よ。私はあなたを攻める。―万軍の神、主の御告げ―あなたの日、私があなたを罰する時が来たからだ。
32 そこで、高ぶる者はつまずき倒れ、これを起こす者もいない。私は、その町に火をつける。火はその回りのものをすべて焼き尽くす。」
33 万軍の主はこう仰せられる。「イスラエルの民とユダの民は、共にしいたげられている。彼らをとりこにした者はみな、彼らを捕らえて解放しようとはしない。」
34 彼らを贖う方は強く、その名は万軍の主。主は、確かに彼らの訴えを支持し、この国をいこわせるが、バビロンの住民を震え上がらせる。
35 剣が、カルデヤ人にも、―主の御告げ―バビロンの住民、その首長たち、知恵ある者たちにも下る。
36 剣が自慢する者たちにも下り、彼らは愚かになる。剣がその勇士たちにも下り、彼らはおののく。
37 剣がその馬と車と、そこに住む混血の民にも下り、彼らは女のようになる。剣がその財宝にも下り、それらはかずめ取られる。
38 その水の上には、ひでりが下り、それはかれる。ここは刻んだ像の国で、彼らは偶像の神に狂っているからだ。
39 それゆえ、そこには荒野の獣が山犬とともに住み、だちょうがそこに住む。もう、いつまでも人は住まず、代々にわたって、住む人はない。
40 神がソドムと、ゴモラと、その近隣を滅ぼされたように、―主の御告げ―そこには人が住まず、そこには人の子が宿らない。
41 見よ。一つの民が北から来る。大きな国と多くの王が地の果て果てから奮い立つ。
42 彼らは弓と投げ槍を堅く握り、残忍で、あわれみがない。その声は海のようにとどろく。バビロンの娘よ。彼らは馬に乗り、ひとりのように陣ぞなえをして、あなたを攻める。
43 バビロンの王は、彼らのうわさを聞いて気力を失い、産婦のような苦しみと苦痛に捕らえられる。
44 「見よ。獅子がヨルダンの密林から水の絶えず流れる牧場に上って来るように、私は一瞬にして彼らをそこから追い出そう。私は、選ばれた人をそこに置く。なぜなら、だれか私のような者があろうか。だれか私を呼びつける者があろうか。だれか私の前に立つことのできる牧者があろうか。」
45 それゆえ、バビロンに対してめぐらされた主のはかりごとと、カルデヤ人の国に対して立てられたご計画を聞け。必ず、群れの小さい者まで引きずって行かれ、必ず、彼らの牧場はそのことでおびえる。
46 バビロンの捕らえられる音で地は震え、その叫びが国々の間でも聞こえた。

The word that the LORD spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by Jeremiah the prophet.
2 Declare ye among the nations and announce, and set up a standard; announce, and conceal not; say: 'Babylon is taken, Bel is put to shame, Merodach is dismayed; her images are put to shame, her idols are dismayed.'
3 For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein; they are fled, they are gone, both man and beast.
4 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together; they shall go on their way weeping, and shall seek the LORD their God.
5 They shall inquire concerning Zion with their faces hitherward: 'Come ye, and join yourselves to the LORD in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.'
6 My people hath been lost sheep; their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains; they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting-place.
7 All that found them have devoured them; and their adversaries said: 'We are not guilty'; because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers. 
8 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flocks.
9 For, lo, I will stir up and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in array against her, from thence she shall be taken; their arrows shall be as of a mighty man that maketh childless; none shall return in vain.
10 And Chaldea shall be a spoil; all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the LORD.
11 Because ye are glad, because ye rejoice, O ye that plunder My heritage, because ye gambol as a heifer at grass, and neigh as strong horses;
12 Your mother shall be sore ashamed, she that bore you shall be confounded; behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
13 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate; every one that goeth by Babylon shall be appalled and hiss at all her plagues.
14 Set yourselves in array against Babylon round about, all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows; for she hath sinned against the LORD.
15 Shout against her round about, she hath submitted herself; her buttresses are fallen, her walls are thrown down; for it is the vengeance of the LORD, take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.
16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest; for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land. 
17 Israel is a scattered sheep, the lions have driven him away; first the king of Assyria hath devoured him, and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.
18 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
19 And I will bring Israel back to his pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead.
20 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none, and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found; for I will pardon them whom I leave as a remnant. 
21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod; waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee. 
22 Hark! battle is in the land, and great destruction.
23 How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! How is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!
24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware; thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.
25 The LORD hath opened His armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of His indignation; for it is a work that the Lord GOD of hosts hath to do in the land of the Chaldeans.
26 Come against her from every quarter, open her granaries, cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly; let nothing of her be left.
27 Slay all her bullocks, let them go down to the slaughter; woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation. 
28 Hark! they flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of His temple.
29 Call together the archers against Babylon, all them that bend the bow; encamp against her round about, let none thereof escape; recompense her according to her work, according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been arrogant against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
30 Therefore shall her young men fall in her broad places, and all her men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, saith the LORD. 
31 Behold, I am against thee, O thou most arrogant, saith the Lord GOD of hosts; for thy day is come, the time that I will punish thee.
32 And the most arrogant shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up; and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all that are round about him. 
33 Thus saith the LORD of hosts: The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together; and all that took them captives hold them fast; they refuse to let them go.
34 Their Redeemer is strong, the LORD of hosts is His name; He will thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the earth, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.
35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.
36 A sword is upon the boasters, and they shall become fools; a sword is upon her mighty men, and they shall be dismayed.
37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her, and they shall become as women; a sword is upon her treasures, and they shall be robbed.
38 A drought is upon her waters, and they shall be dried up; for it is a land of graven images, and they are mad upon things of horror.
39 Therefore the wild-cats with the jackals shall dwell there, and the ostriches shall dwell therein; and it shall be no more inhabited for ever, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.
40 As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.
41 Behold, a people cometh from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be roused from the uttermost parts of the earth.
42 They lay hold on bow and spear, they are cruel, and have no compassion; their voice is like the roaring sea, and they ride upon horses; set in array, as a man for war, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.
43 The king of Babylon hath heard the fame of them, and his hands wax feeble; anguish hath taken hold of him, and pain, as of a woman in travail.
44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan against the strong habitation; for I will suddenly make them run away from it, and whoso is chosen, him will I appoint over it; for who is like Me? and who will appoint Me a time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before Me?
45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that He hath taken against Babylon, and His purposes, that He hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: surely the least of the flock shall drag them away, surely their habitation shall be appalled at them.
46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth quaketh, and the cry is heard among the nations.
