Signs Bring faith

Signs Bring faith
In Catherine P. Bradshaw’s article “Measuring School Climate in High Schools: A focus on safety, Engagement, and the Environment,” 2014, the author claims that school climate is closely related to the behaviors of people who are involved in school. Catherine used USDOE’s model to measure safety, engagement, and the environment within schools, and he obtained three results. The text is targeted at people who are concerned about school climate, such as school policy-makers, parents, and federal organizations. By measuring and accessing the three main domains proposed by the US Department of Education, the author aims to convince his readers that these three main domains are very important indicators of the school climate and they exert a great influence on students’ behavior and academic success. With its well-constructed argument and clearly argued ideas, the text is persuasive and convincing. It is written in an extremely logical way with the use of reasoning, which can be seen from the following three dimensions.

In order to present to readers the results of measuring school climate, the author followed a logical order. The text begins by giving the readers a general idea of what a school climate is. “School climate is profoundly important to the social, emotional and academic successes of its students and staff.” In regard of this, a growing number of researches have been done to measure the school climate. Then the author introduced “the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Program and the Safe and Supportive Schools Program through the US Department of Education (USDOE).” This is the core concept central to the whole text. The author introduced it with a clear description, making it understandable for his readers what his intentions are and made preparations for the following analysis. However, before the author plunged into illustrating his research based on the USDOE model, he examined other previous studies and pointed their shortcomings. “Despite the evidence indicating that school climate is a multifaceted construct, few measures adequately reflect its multidimensional nature.” After reviewing the school climate and the existing studies, the author proposed another measurement of school climate and went into a detailed analysis. Following that, the author looked at its participants, instrument, demographics and procedures. Much thought was given to data analysis and how to analyze the results. In order to be subjective, the author also analyzed the limitation of this measure. Coming to the last part of the text, the author subsequently gave a conclusion to all the researches in this field and their influences on the school climate. On the whole, the text is complete in its contents, leaving little space for its readers to question the author’s views regarding this matter.

Another reason for good reasoning is that the text is backed up by statistics and hard facts from research. Generally speaking, the text is powerful in its claims. The data that the author cited in the text are official and thus telling. “The date for this project come from Maryland’s Safe and Supportive Schools Initiative (MDS3), which is a joint project of the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), Sheppard Pratt Health System, and Jones Hopkins University.” When measuring participants, the author provided many numbers and statistics to help readers understand where their participants came from and gave other information of the participants. For example, “Data were collected from 58 Maryland high schools participating in MDS3 during spring 2011 (wave 1) and spring 2012 (wave 2) from 9th to 12th grade students via a Web-based survey.” Another one to vividly illustrate this point is that “Wave 2 student mean age in this sample was 15.93 (SD=1.33) and participating schools again included a diverse population with a minority rate of 45.93% (SD=25.11) and a mean student enrollment of 1468.48 (SD=466.82). Table 2 is clear in each subdomain’s scale thanks to the figures listed in it. The readers can get a straight-forward impression as to which subdomain stands out. By presenting a great number of statistics, the whole text’s analysis holds water.

The author makes a strong appeal to his reader is that the he was successful in selling his views and beliefs by giving some detailed and insightful analysis based on the research and its results. The author not only splashed out all the numbers and studies that he had known, but he scrutinized them carefully, compared the date from MDS3 with others done before and shared his analysis with the readers. “We first conducted exploratory factor analyses (EFA) in Mplus 7.1 using data from wave 1 to examine the 3 proposed scales (engagement, safety and environment) of school climate. We next conducted confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) on the wave 1 data to test the resulting factor structure separately for each of the 3 scales; a CFA was then conducted on the separate wave 2 sample.” From this we can tell that the author treated the data with supreme seriousness. Moreover, to go deep into the research results, the author employed a number of methods to analyze them, such as the exploratory factor analyses (EFA), the confirmatory factor analyses (CFA), the comparative fit index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) and many other methods.

Based on the three strategies that the author successfully employed, the text is logical and strongly convinced the readers that “taken together these 3 scales and their 13 subdomains provide a comprehensive and efficient tool for measuring school climate among high school students, largely consistent with the USDOE model.” His conclusion is natural from his reasoning and layers of ideas presenting accordingly. Because of his clearly-constructed contents, readers of his target will find what the author tried to deliver more easy to understand and acceptable.

Read symbols about the universe and ritual order

下面为大家整理一篇优秀的essay代写范文 -- Read symbols about the universe and ritual order,文章讲述根据以上介绍,烈火是牺牲之火的拟人化和神化。

Read symbols about the universe and ritual order
Lines 1-2: Agni, according to the above introduction, is the personification and deification of the sacrificial fire. If he is the one who sacrifice himself for the prosperity of human being, why is he extolled as the “minister” of the sacrifice? What’s the meaning of minister? By “minister”, people are normally referring to someone who is holding an official position or managing some affairs. However, if Agni is sacrificing himself, he is the one who is sacrificing rather than that who is in charge of other’s sacrificing.
Line5-6: What’s the role of fire or Agni played in people livelihood? Why would people gain wealth and welfare through fire? In the primitive time, it is said that fire changed people’s livelihood sharply in that it helped people to cook food, which was an obvious progress of human society. However, according to Herodotus, there were four to three tribes of people in India at Aryan’s time, none of them were using fire to cook food, because all of them were eating raw finish, meat or vegetables. However, one possibility is that Herodotus document is not precise—people did use fire to cook. Another possibility is that, though people did not cook, they still use fire to light at night, to warm themselves in cold days (though Indian is hot all the year round), and to fight the ferocious wild animals, which means that fire was still playing important role in people’s life. Only by granting this possibility can we link fire with people wealth and welfare, if Herodotus is right.
Line 9: Why Agni, as the personification of fire, is also a sage? How could he be insightful at the same time? In the ancient Greek Mythology, different deities are responsible for different excellences or functions of human beings—they have divisions of labor. For instance, one of them is responsible for beauty, one of them is for wisdom, and one of them is for arts. It seems that Agni is a multi-functional god--he is responsible for not only fire, but also wisdom.
Line15-16: My hypothesis in line 9 seem to be proved, Agni is not a ‘specialist’, but rather a multi-functional god. He is not only responsible for fire and wisdom, but also a custodian of the cosmic.
Line26-30: It is a surprise to find that in Aryans’ time, such liquid as Ghee had been used as symbols of glory, wealth and blessing. It reminds me that in Christianity, ointment plays similar role. What are roles of these two kinds of liquid played in people’s ordinary life? I look them up in the dictionary, finding that while ointment is to heal wounds, Ghee is used for cooking. As a result, it makes sense to use them as one of the most important symbols in both religions, since them are good to human beings and might be precious and expensive in ancient time.
Line 28: What are differences between Varuna and Agni? While in line 15 Agni is the custodian of the cosmic order, in this line Varuna is the one who holds the cosmic law. It seems that they are playing the overlapping role.
34-36: Does it mean that it is sacrifice provided by mortals which make the reborn of Heaven and Earth? It seems that god and mortals are reciprocal: while gods provide people with wealth and welfare, people make the reborn of their gods possible. Combining this consideration, it seems that religion in Aryan’s time is quite different from later religions. For instance, god in Christianity is omnipotent, authoritative and independent: it is impossible to imagine that the god would die and reborn through people’s sacrifice.
Line 35: What is the meaning of “Bowl” in this context. If it refers to one object or container, it seems that it does make any sense here.
Line 38: It is a surprise to find that god has semen and use his semen to create manifold forms. By “manifold forms”, it is not sure whether it means human beings or different mutation of the god himself.
Line 43-45: Several points to notice. Firstly, another liquid, honey, appears in these lines. It reminds me that in Christian literature, honey is also the symbol of wealth and prosperity. For instance, it is said in Bible that some places is overflown with honey. In Rig Veda, honey seems to be one people’s rewards from Gods. However, secondly, in this context, it seems that Heaven and Earth are not gods themselves, but rather “agents” between Gods and people, since they “bring unto the gods sacrifice” and drop and dispense honey to people. Thirdly, one mindset of religion is obvious in these lines. People were “trading” with their gods. While bringing sacrifices to their gods, people pray for rewards from gods, such as honey, glory and strength.

Line 50-54: It is said that Varuna was born when he spread apart his parents, the Earth and the Heaven. However, in line 28, it is said that Varuna holds the cosmic laws, even his parents should obey their son’s laws. This logic seems to contradict our commonsense, since it is normal that it is parents who give law to their son—the word “Paternalism” is a concrete case in point, rather than the opposite.
Line 55-58: It seems that the prayer didn’t know his trouble until he asks someone, the knowing. Then, who is the knowing? Are they his fellows or some priests?
Line 60-64: Varuna, who is wholly self-sustaining, is impossible to deceive the prayer, but release the prayer from the deceits of the prayer’s ancestor. But why his ancestors deceive him? I guess his ancestors are those who are said to know whether someone has break the law given by god, since in ancient time the young were always counseling their seniors or ancestors. But the young were not sure whether their seniors or ancestors are giving right advice or whether the advice given are biased to their ancestors’ interests. Then the young they might doubt that their ancestors or seniors might deceive them.
Line69-71: It seems that Varuna is so relentless that his people have to be to serve as a humble slave in order to please his gods. This mindset is also salient in other later religion. While sometimes god is benevolent and dropping honey or ointment to his prayer, sometimes he would be too relentless to punish his people.

Nausea is a disease

Nausea is a disease
Nausea is the feeling that you have when you want to vomit. This is the literal meaning of nausea, which can be found in the dictionary. In the novel, Nausea, we can also find this kind of feeling companying the whole life of Roquentin, after his negation of all the things.
From the perspective of Roquentin, at first, we can say, Nausea is a kind of sickness, reflecting Roquentin’s self-consciousness. As we could figure out, Roquentin is a neurotic and lonely man with strong self-consciousness. So it is not difficult that this kind of man could easily get ‘sick’, and he gets a feeling that all the things around him cause nausea. He finds out nausea is the feeling caused by his realization of the existence of himself. On the other hand, nausea is Roquentin’s feeling of the meaningless life. Roquentin is a sensitive middle-aged intellectual, uneasy about his life, which threatens and devours him, and overwhelms his minds. It is this kind of life that causes the feeling of nausea, which separates him from the real life. As he says, he belongs to another species. The experience that he is always immersed in the work, contributing to the honor of Marquis de Rollebon, has deprived him from the life he used to be, and as a result causing the feeling of nausea. Moreover, nausea is the connection between him and the world. Starting from the moment when Roquentin feels lost towards his life, the moment when he gets rid of reproducing history for Marquis de Rollebon and the moment when he realizes the disillusion of his dreaming of love story, he thinks it’s as if Rollebon has replaced his life so he feels meaninglessness of himself. From that moment on, he loses contact with all the things, and all he leaves is a kind of feeling, nausea--the only way for him to connect the world.
From the perspective of philosophy, for one part, nausea is the cognition of existence. In Roquentin’s eyes, all the things around him suddenly become strange and weird, and he doesn’t understand why they should be there, and he also can’t figure out where the sense of existence stands. Then he focuses on the thinking of himself but he still don’t know what he is doing right there and why he should exist, and finally gets a feeling of nausea. When he thinks about the existence of all the things, he gets sense of nausea. Nausea is a kind of reaction or cognition towards the thinking of existence. For another, nausea is a kind of freedom. Roquentin thinks man is just a soft and odd-looking body, and it is nonsense of the existence of humans. When he realizes this, he has a feeling of nausea, but because of the incomplete reality, he gets rid of the real world. As I say, it is a sense of freedom, imagined by Roquentin.

Malcolm X and Black Rage

Malcolm X and Black Rage
Since this review is targeted at my peers, namely college-age audience, I think that I may assume that all of you have some ideas about the basics of racism, white supremacy, black rage and all the other fundamental elements constitutive of racism. Having finished this essay, I start to have the feeling that West seems to praise Malcolm X before he finally gets into his focus of giving his critical insights into Malcolm X as well as his promotion of black rage.
In the first place, West argues that Malcolm X is the prophet of Black rage then and now for his unprecedented manner of communicating that Black rage out where he introduces the urgent need of psychic conversion of the degraded and devalued black people. And it is also because of his love for black people. Malcolm X attaches great importance and value to love for black people, for he holds that “this love would produce a psychic conversion in Black people in that they would affirm themselves as human beings, no longer viewing their bodies, minds and souls through white lenses, but believing themselves capable of taking control of their own destinies”(141). Malcolm X thinks that this love can give black people the courage they need to get rid of self-contempt, self-doubt and disbelief and then begin to have self-esteem. And finally this love enables them to obtain independence and can be the master of their own fate without oppression from the whites. It seems that West is sparing no effort in convincing us the value of this love. But as far as I am concerned, with so many obsessions with the opposite of the freedom that is in quest, Black rage in itself is more a departure from what should be truly valued. After careful elaboration of Malcolm X’s psychic conversion, West puts forward a problem “Du Bios’s double-consciousness seems to lock black people into the quest for white approval and disappointment, due mainly to white racist assessment, whereas Malcolm X suggests that this tragic syndrome can be broken. But how?”(143) Double consciousness highlights the need for acceptance and approval from both the white as well as the black because they finally appeal to white-supremacist’s standard to measure their own humanity, with which Malcolm X disagrees. And he even thinks that such morbid obsession can be avoided or even eliminated. But in what way, there is direct answer. At that time of pervasive and deeply-rooted racism, we have to admit that it is so difficult to deal with problem. But Malcolm X’s insight into this problem is praiseworthy. And then West analyses the reasons why Malcolm X does not put forward a direct answer and critically elaborates his consideration about Malcolm X’s concepts. It is evident that Malcolm X resorts to love, nationalism to appeal to black people’s ethos, facilitating this black rage with emphasis of self-respect, self-determination and self-love to be the dominant black idea.
When it comes to the rhetoric device West uses in this essay, I think he appeals to reason, to logos to clarify his understanding and insights into Malcolm X and black rage. At the first beginning of this essay, he admits that Malcolm X is a prophet of black rage and speak well of some of Malcolm X’s ideas and deeds. In the mean time, when the analysis goes deeper, he also points out some defaults of Malcolm X.
Apart from knowing more about racism and those two scholars’ ideas, what we can also learn from this essay is its way of development and the arrangements of arguments, or perhaps the more important is critical thinking. It is not wise for us to fully accept others’ ideas without our own judgments and analysis, especially since we are college students.

Laughter comes in many forms

Laughter comes in many forms
So diversified and unique are human beings’ characteristics and increasingly rich and enlarged is the English vocabulary, it is irreversibly urgent for each and every one of us to master the different forms of English vocabulary used to describe the same phenomenon with just the subtle disparity among them that is really hard to distinguish for the majority of people. Only in this way can we human beings grasp the accurate and proper ways for better communicate in our daily life to get rid of the unneeded misunderstanding due to the inappropriate application of certain terms. The same case goes as well to the wide usage of depicting one of our facial expressions, laughing. In the following I’d like to classify the different forms of an aspect of human behavior, laughing, with some concrete kinds of laughing listed as examples.
First and foremost comes “grin”, one common form of laughing that is to laugh with his or her teeth bared, opposite to the gentle smile usually happened when tight lipped on those females in a really polite manners in that in the ancient times it is one of the evaluation criteria to judge whether the specific female is virtuous enough to be a competent wife under the influence of the so-called “the three obediences and the four virtues”, being generally acknowledged and approved for a relatively long period of time. While on the other hand, nowadays grin is also an advocated way of laughing in that it can make people laugh unconstrained in whatever way and just be themselves when laughing, to a certain degree freeing themselves from the countless troubles that are inevitable in the daily life and relaxing themselves more or less to strike a proper balance between work and rest so that they can again gain the needed energies and efforts back for the coming trivial affairs in work or life. Or we can simply put it another way that this kind of laughing has really realized the purpose of laughing as people laugh because they are happy.
With the type of laughing “grin” being in detail mentioned above, what comes next to the list of forms of laughing lies in “guffaw”, which is to split one’s sides with laugher together with both hands or either hand holding at the belly. “Guffaw” is frequently employed to expound a person when he laughs to such an extreme that he can’t help but choose to hold his or her belly in order that this action can prevent them from serious stomachache resulted from the over exciting laugh for a long time. From the above, we can easily draw a conclusion that this kind of laughing will always be and might only be adopted when dealing with some circumstances that are funny and humorous to a degree that can hardly be stated within words but choose a replacement “guffaw” instead for depicting very little part of it shamefully. Moreover, we can have a fair knowledge that this action of laughing tends to take place on those extroverts as they dare to express their true thoughts deep down their own heart out directly taking no regard of other misgivings that may be possessed by some introverts, leading to their being unable to display the most authentic self in a way or another. As far as I’m concerned, there is no doubt that I am personally in favor of this form of laughing in that I feel like the feeling of just being myself, saying having it that “go on your own course and let others talk”.
Last but not the least, what I want to in detail introduce is another type of laughing, “giggle”, as is to laugh with a lovely sound pronounced by all the babies when they are being entertained by their parents, relatives or other things around. As those babies are so young that they have not the possibility of expressing their happiness out through words or actions as the adults, thus under such a condition they will choose to laugh by making certain sounds that are a clear voice and their sole voice as well. “Giggle” is so sweet and pleasant to the hearers so that even some girls learn to imitate such a sound in order that they can be more charming for their ideal boys with whom they have crushes on.
“Grin”, “Guffaw” and also “giggle” being discussed above, there is my intention that these three forms of laughing are all begins with letter “g” in spelling and it is really possible for human beings to misunderstand them this time or next time in the common exchanges in daily life. At the final of this discussion, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and sincere hope that all people can grasp the accurate and proper ways for better communicate in our daily life to get rid of the unneeded misunderstanding in the near future.
