Communication is the key to parenting

Communication is the key to parenting
Communication is a bridge between people and plays a significant role in various relationships. It connects people, societies and even nations. It can always reflect various culture and different ideas, when communication is launching. There are loads of ways to communicate, such as dialogue, writing or even a gesture and an eye contact can express one’s feelings and moods. Thus, family, which is a reflection of minor society, should lay more focus on communication, as it exists various people with various personalities in a family. Although they are connected by blood and sensations, communication is needed. Parenting is a life-long lesson for all. Mother-child communication, father-child communication and wife-husband communication are three important modes, in which parent-child communication supports the whole family and is the key to keeping a lovely and peaceful atmosphere within a family. However, the current society forces people to do what is fast and efficient, requiring less talking and communications, because of their wasting of time and energy, thus, this kind of less-communication way of handling problems, especially those in families, disturbs the normal way of tackling troubles and silence or, what’s more, violence appear much more frequently in a family.

Amy Tan, an author who is immigrant to America, confusing about her double identities, has a typically Chinese mother: a mother full of hope for her daughter and beliefs in strict methods of teaching could set a higher stage for her daughter. Thus she pushed her daughter so hard. To express this kind of teaching method and what kind of opinions Amy Tan herself holds, she wrote a fiction based on her own experiences, named The Joy Luck Club. The character, June, was fictional but lived the life which was similar to Amy herself. No matter the child is Amy or June, or someone else, they are all influenced and controlled by their Chinese parents. Maybe the biggest and apparent distinct is the way they reflect to their mother. Some of them may be willing to be puppets, while others ask for their freedom. The former is more relatively popular in Chinese families and the latter is equal to bad kids.

Admittedly, hope for children stemming from parents is understandable, especially from Chinese perspective. Parents from China during 1950s and 1960s suffered a lot and had no books to read, not to mention other breeding relating to art. Piano, violin, painting and dancing are remote and strange to them. As they are aged, it is impossible to retake lessons and educate themselves. For one thing, their shoulders are burdened with responsibilities and duties, no matter to themselves or to their families, they are always busy with work and money; For another, their aged ability in every aspects, both mentally and physically, has no guarantee of accepting new techniques. Thus, they put all their hope as well as aspirations which cannot be completed by them on their children. When they have only one child, this kids bears more. Also, because of impatience, they spend no time on their kids to share their hope and reasons. What they do is push, push and push.

However, as for those who want to communicate, the problem is how to convey their hope and aspirations. Most parents fail to complete this mission, especially mothers. In the fiction The Joy Luck Club, June’s mother passed on her idea by pushing June to play the piano and stimulating her by other children from TV or the relatives(Amy Tan, “The Joy Luck Club”). She never directly spoke to June, even after June’s unsuccessful show, it was the silence that saturated the whole fiction and nothing more. Especially when the character in this fiction was a Chinese lady, expression and communication seemed difficult and uncomfortable for her. The only thing she can accept was pushing again and waiting her daughter’s resistance. June, as a normal kid, had her own idea and pursuit. She was tired to repeating practice and her mother’s silence and strictness. However, her parents did not teach her to communicate, so when she wanted to rebel, she cannot find the right way. Words from her mouth is hurting and disappointing. Moreover, she asked for freedom and did not understand her mother, her thoughts and hope and disappointment. All these pities stem from lack of communication.

Compared with mothers, fathers hold a relatively different attitudes towards communications. Even though silence still exists in their normal lives, fathers almost act with violence and indifference full of love or hatred (Russell C. Leong). They express, but through the way of violence and cruelty. Unfortunately, kids are good at mimicking, and they do what parents do. Moreover, they pass on this to next generation.

Russell C. Leong, a fourth-generation Chinese-American, writes many fictions and poems. And in his essay one will realize his strange relationships with his father: even though he described his father in this essay several times, he did know him clearly. It seemed that there was no sentiments between them. All one can read is gesture and action but complexion and words. However, this should not be strange, because nowadays, loads of fathers cannot find the right way to transmit their emotions and fail to communicate. They want to say something, but cannot find the way. In China, the image of father is usually similarly equivalent to power, stubborn and indifference. They never talk, smile and say words which can warm or comfort kids’ hearts. What’s more, they may hurt their kids when they drunk or were in a dim mood. This situation is also frequent in other countries. Leong described his father in the essay “My father’s hands were always busy preparing food and paper…stern and placid”(Leong). We can see that his father barely talked to him, even though he supported this family, but the kid cannot feel the love and warmth. Absurdly, this lack of communication can be understood by people, especially those in China. Fathers always feel indifferent and violent towards kids and families for they are under much greater pressure than wives and kids. First, their bitterness from a disappointing life and burdens, not the kids. People can hardly describe it, because they are vague and inevitable. Second, as males, their personalities, such as tough and firm, do not permit them to show fragile and therefore, they deny communication, for it is the most apparent way to show fragile and cowardice.

Children, the most innocent role in this play, are taught by their parents and influenced also. When they are too young to have their own dreams and hope, they can only listen to their parents, to accept their requests. However, the lack of communication results in failures of understanding why they have to pursue the dream and why their parents are eager to this stuff. When they are older, they are asking for freedom. They want to reject, but their parents had no aware of effective communication to teach their children, thus, children themselves have no idea about communication. All they can do is to mimic, so they do what they saw. Silence, violence and quarrel, fight, things saturating their life are their teachers. The no-talk circulation between parents and children leads to less communication and understanding. Leong thought it is bad to be a son and may revenge when he gets older (Leong). What he mentioned and focused was exactly the result of less communication. A family where people do not talk as well as communicate and they do not know the thoughts of each other which is harmful to the development of kids.

It is clear that based on different culture, communications play different roles. What we discuss in this paper is Chinese-American. That is to say, parents are from China and kids are bringing up in America. Therefore, clashes between two countries as well as two cultures happened. In China, obedience is always stressed. The words of Amy’s fiction reveals it: two kinds. The obedient one and those follow their minds. The obedient ones refer to kids follow their parents’ minds and could not say no, what’s more, they had no idea of resistance. They did not understand why they have to, but they do what their parents want. Another kind kids, full of self and resistance, are willing to reject their parents and go the opposite way against parents. Both of the two kinds of kids are common but unsuccessful. And they will extend this mode of breeding to next generation, to form severer harm.

What if parents communicate with their kids more. Asking what kind of color they like and whether they want to eat cereal in the morning. Asking what they like to do in their spare time, if sleeping and watching TV are their choices, why not tell them the benefits of outdoor activities and the harm of staying inside? Informing kids of their parents’ dreams and hope which cannot be realized when they were young and encourage their kids to do whatever they like and have a try on things relating to parents’ dreams. Silence and violence, which result in some pities and sorrows in a family can be avoided if effective communications are launched.

Parenting is a life-long topic and family is a key to harmonious society. In society, the rate of divorce, the rate of juvenile crime and the rate of well-being count a lot. For all these, communication is important. A good and efficient communication leads to better understanding and acceptance. Thus, families can be united. Kin loves each other and supports each other. One cannot say quarrels and sorrows will be entirely avoided, but they can be better tackled if happen.

Black silence, hope below

Black silence, hope below
As a Chinese student studying here, undoubtedly the essay I have strongest reaction to is Silence by Maxine Hong Kingston. This essay tells us a story infiltrated with mute miseries. Maxine Hong Kingston uses the first-person narrative to tell us readers the tough experience of language barrier she confronts in her childhood in America. She is presented as a silent little girl who keeps only to herself since she had to speak English in her kindergarten. But her behavior and experience in the Chinese school, from 5:00 to 7:30 P.M. forms a sharp contrast to that of her in the American kindergarten. In the Chinese school, she feels safe to say anything she likes and do anything she desires without as many constraints as in the American school where she is engulfed in self-disgust and endless grief.
How about Chinese students in America today or students in any foreign country? As one of them, I think I can have a say. Apparently, today’s students are not as silent as Kingston at that time, especially those extraverted students. It is easy for them to make friends and be on good terms with others in a new place. But it is safe to say that the majority of them tend to befriend those from the same culture. And being a part of a new culture is not that easy. Foreign students may feel excluded especially in those places racism and prejudice can be found. Such deep-rooted concepts are truly there though some people may not feel aware of their existence after ceaseless struggles for elimination of racism. I am not saying we Chinese are prejudiced here. But racism is a serious and prevalent problem that is difficult to deal with, which can possibly impact every one across the world.
However, hope in this essay can also be witnessed. Teeming with heartbreaks and desperation, this essay also provides us with some slight trace of hope. We know that when asked to do art work in a class, little Kingston covers her painting with thick layers of black paint, for which her parents are called to meet her teacher. Since her parents are incapable of understanding English, they can only tell the seriousness of their daughter’s problem from the teacher’s face. But little Kingston explains this way “I painted layers of black over houses and flowers and suns, and when I drew on the blackboard, I put a layer of chalk on top. I was making a stage curtain, and it was the moment before the curtain parted.”
It seems that she is telling us that she is awaiting her moment of entrance into a world where she can freely and fluently expresses herself without self-disgust, without shame or fear of being laughed at. Though she is having a really tough time at school, she still hopes for being better and a part of them. Black curtain is silence, a hiding place for her to keep only to herself, to avoid being made jokes about. But still beneath the black curtain is hope to be unveiled.
First person narration is used to resonate with the reader to better feel the tough struggle of the writer’s experience, a way to absorb the reader into the essay. Use of contrasting environments makes readers feel, on one hand, Kingston’s insecurity about language, the lesser role women has within their family, and on the other hand, the original innocence and childhood gaiety. Every child is endowed with the right to and capacity for joy. Use of the black curtain as a symbol of unveiled hope suggests Kingston’s longing to be a part of her peers and even part of American culture. She is fed up with being excluded. With all those choices Kingston makes in the story, I think she is trying to give her readers an experience of stinging miseries, tough struggles to learn and grow up. But all those painful experiences are not in vain. We know that Kingston later becomes a very excellent writer, which also contrasts sharply with her early experience in her “mute” childhood. She wants her readers to really feel the pain, but in the mean time, she also gives them hope, as well as a truth that can be stuck to—what does not kill you makes you stronger.
In terms of the influence these experiences have on me, I think that I must feel the same with other readers. As an international student, sometimes I may feel I am an outsider in this school, or even in this country. Language barrier, culture shock and loneliness together sometimes prevent me from communicating with others, which in turn strengthens the language barrier, culture shock and my loneliness. But just like Kingston wants us readers to feel, I should also have hope. And at the same time, I should try as best as possible to adjust myself to get used to this culture and one day become a part of it. But still, I also know that I need to focus on my own things and do them in a serious manner. Kingston’s story is sure to have other implications and educational meaning. But it greatly encourages me to reflect on my life and motivates me to find myself a place on matter where I am.

An analysis of environmental protection in Rural China

An analysis of environmental protection in Rural China
Introduction
As is known to us, China obtains a great number of economic achievements and becomes the second largest economic country in the world in the recent years. The economic conditions of Chinese rural areas nowadays have experienced large changes over the last century. People in rural areas are having better and better life because of the fast economic development. However, few people notice that the fast-developed economic achievements are based on the destruction of ecological environment, such as increasingly expanded water pollution, water and soil erosion, the loss of cultivated area, etc. Many industries hold the idea that economy should be developed first and environmental problems would be dealt with later. Fortunately, with the increasing damage of the environment, more people realize the importance of environmental protection and put the environmental benefits in the first place compared to the economic benefits. Thus, I try to analyze current situations of Chinese rural area and the reasons that arouse those environmental problems, and to put forward some measures to protect environment in Chinese rural area, as well as to introduce the Chinese rural area’s handling achievements from the environmental protection in recent years.
Serious environmental problems in Chinese rural area
In recent years, many Chinese rural areas produce many of environmental problems in order to develop economy. The ecological environment in Chinese rural areas has been suffering destructions in different scales, and the ecological construction cannot follow the speed and power of ecological destruction so that ecological environment quality continues to get worse. Meanwhile, rural environmental pollutions are going increasingly heavy with the development trend from the point pollution to area pollution. Apart from that, there are more and more ecological disasters happening, such as flooding, rainstorm, debris flow and the like. Thus, environmental protection in Chinese rural area is facing more and more challenging.
The ecological destruction in the rural area fails to receive effective restraint and environmental construction cannot surpass the speed and power of the environmental destruction so that ecological qualities and functions continue to deteriorate. In the recent 50 years, masses of cultivated resources have been occupied in order to develop the economy with the construction of irrigation system, reservoir, road, residential house, factory or large garbage dump and it is initially estimated that there are about 33 million hectares of cultivated area lost (Li, 24). Besides, the water and soil loss is still very serious. According to the statistics, there are about one third of cultivated area is being damaged from the water and soil loss, and about 3930 thousand hectares of farmland and 4930 thousand hectares of meadow are endangered with the consequence of desertification (Li, 51). What is worse, the water resources are deteriorating, the ecology of water area is suffering destruction, forests receive serious damage from human beings and meadow is becoming vestigial, getting desertification and alkalization with the speed of two million hectares per year. As a result, biological diversity in Chinese rural area suffers damaged and many species are endangered.

Garbage Dump (web 1)
Apart from the continual ecological destruction, environmental pollutions in the rural area are increasingly serious. Environmental pollutions tend to deteriorate from the point pollution to the area pollution. The rural land resources receive a large area of serious destruction that more than six million hectares of farmlands have been polluted by the agricultural chemicals and over eight million hectares of cultivated areas have suffered from the salinization (Liu, 142). A large amount of waste water, waste gas and waste residue from township enterprises are polluting and extending the rural areas from the partial area to the whole area. Meanwhile, lakes in the rural areas tend have eutrophication as a result from the water pollution. The eutrophication can be seen in the following photos. As is recorded, the sanitary sewage is the biggest factor among the factors contributing to the eutrophication, while the industrial wastewater is the second largest and fertilizer is the third largest one. According to a research by Chinese Academy of Sciences, there are more than half of counties where nitrate is over standard in the underground water among 14 counties in Chinese north, indicating that the nitrate pollution to water resources is pretty serious because of the overuse of nitrogen fertilizers. Consequently, a huge number of rivers in the village were polluted and became “dead water”. Because of the pollutions, the ecological qualities deteriorate continually and people’s health and life would fail to improve to a large extent.

Eutrophication (web 2)
With the increasing destruction of environment and ecology, environmental disasters become more and more and environmental protection are facing more challenging problems. In recent years, people in the rural area damaged environment largely in order to pursue high economic benefits so that nature begins to revenge human beings with the frequent disasters. In the rural areas, they would often suffer from huge loss every time the flood and rainstorm fall down. Large areas of cultivated land and farmland were damaged by the soil and sand from those disasters, and large areas of land lose their nutrient contents leading to the large loss of productivity or even wasteland. In addition, natural disasters, including debris flow, landslide and earthquake, could produce groups of refugees and result in large financial loss to a large extent. Apart from the large number of refugees, they would bring strange seasonal variation, unstable cold and hot days, virus variation or epidemic diseases, endangering people’s health and life without doubt.
The factors contributing to environmental destruction in Chinese rural areas
As is known to us that one cannot clap with one hand, there must have many factors leading to the serious environmental problems and destructions in the rural areas. Through my researching, the reasons can be sorted as direct reasons and fundamental reasons. And the author will try to analyze them in detail.
Direct reasons can be owed to human beings’ unreasonable economic activities that produce various kinds of environmental destruction. First of all, farmers pursue fast-developed economic benefits with the smallest cost to obtain the largest benefits. In Chinese rural areas, many farmers did not have reasonable ideas and just wanted to pursue their own benefits as many as possible (The World Bank, 12). Therefore, they exploited the natural resources as much as possible and focused on the current benefits rather than future development. When working on the farming activities, they made use of fertilizers and pesticides largely to enhance the production and resist the insects, which resulted in many environmental problems, such as water and land pollution, lake eutrophication, land solidification, pollution and low quality of agricultural products, etc. According to the statistics, China is a big country of fertilizer that the usage of fertilizer reached 38 million ton in 1996, ranking the first place (Zhang, 62). What is worse, the use ration of fertilizer could only have 30 percent to 35 percent, that is, every year about ten million ton of fertilizers flowed into river, which not only led to large economic loss but also polluted environment to a large extent. With time going on, land qualities deteriorate continually with increasing loss of nutrition elements.
Second, with the process of marketization going on in China, many township enterprises damaged environment largely for the purpose of improving competition and large economic profits. In order to extend the produce scale, many township enterprises occupied cultivated land without reasonable rules (Frederick, 35). Meanwhile, in the rural areas, many enterprises had poor production equipment and technologies that they did not have enough ability to deal with the waste gas, waste water and wasteresidue and to reuse natural resources. It is recorded that there are about 20 percent of enterprises that belong to pollution-type among all the township enterprises, including papermaking, printing and dyeing, electroplating, chemical industry, food processing, metal smelting and oil refining. These enterprises produce lots of pollutions and pour them into rural water, gas and land without any dispose, which become the main sources of rural pollution and even arouse large-scale pollution into area environmental problems. In addition, township enterprises did not have reasonable distribution on the whole and concentrated investment that contributed to widespread sources of pollution, complex types of enterprises and unstable changes.
The two reasons mentioned above are the main direct reasons close to human beings’ direct economic activities, while it is the fundamental reasons that produce serious environmental problems and destructions. Overseeing the situation of rural areas, the fundamental reasons are based on the subjective conditions of the rural areas in China.
Chinese rural areas have poor economic construction and capital support to ensure environmental protection going ahead. As is known to us, the majority of Chinese rural areas are less developed economically, so they have limited investment to deal with environmental problems. Meanwhile, Chinese rural areas do not have enough, high-quality and large-scale environmentally-friendly equipment. Their technologies and skills to protect environment are so limited that efforts on the environmental protection do not acquire good results. We can say, the economic development decides the effectiveness of environmental protection in Chinese rural areas to a large extent. In addition, the staff and bureaus of environmental protection cannot meet the current requirements in the rural areas. In China, rural areas does not have improved teamwork construction and environmental bureaus because of their low development. The poor rural economic conditions and poor environmental bureaus construction restrain environmental protection to a large extent.
The local government’s poor supervision ability of environmental protection results in the low effectiveness of environmental protection. In China, it is the government that plays a large role in protecting environment, while the government should blame for the increasing trend of environmental destruction. First, the government does not have specific division of work to protect environment because of the mixed institution setting. Many environmental institutions does manage the environmental protection but they do not manage well that many of them exceed their own powers or shirk their responsibilities to each other. Second, in the rural areas, many governments have close relationships with the enterprises that they could not implement the laws strongly and thoroughly. In Chinese rural areas, many enterprises are the strong economic support of that area and governments have strong dependence on the enterprises, so governments always do not punish the enterprises to a large extent. Last but not least, some governments do not have realize the importance of environmental protection for the purpose of enhancing the local economic condition. In today’s marketization, it is the competition system that can be witnessed here and there. Governments must have been influenced by such the system that they want to improve their performance regardless of environmental destruction.
Chinese rural areas do not have complete laws and relative regulations of environmental protection. Although many laws about environmental protection have been established in recent years, there are still lack of complete laws to meet the real demand of rural areas’ environmental protection. And rural areas still have problems of implementing environmental laws. As we know, the environmental protection in the rural areas seems to be late compared with that of urban cities, so its basic is still too poor and cannot produce a complete law and regulation system to adapt to the real demand of environmental protection in the rural areas, for example, there are still blanks at the aspect of legislation of environmental pollution prevention, management of poisonous chemicals, radioactive contamination prevention, etc. Except for the aspect of environmental legislation, the vague division of responsibility and overlap of power are the obvious problems as well.
The poor awareness of environmental protection and rapid growth of population in the rural areas contribute to the increasing environmental destruction. Nowadays, the rural areas have a large population of eight hundred million with an increasing speed of 16 million people per year. Such the large population aggravates large pressure of environmental protection, because it contributes to more loss of water and soil. Meanwhile, people in the rural areas have pretty poor awareness of environmental protection. As a result, people damage forests or open up the wasteland without any limitation. Many enterprises discharge their waste water or gas into the environment without any restraint. Also, rural areas do not have high-quality education, which has close relation with the awareness of environmental protection, so it is no wonder that people in the rural areas have poor environmental protection.
The measures to protect environment of Chinese rural areas
Knowing the current situations of environmental protection in Chinese rural areas and the reasons contributing to the environmental destruction, it is pretty significant to take some measures decline or prevent environment destruction in the rural areas. As we all know, environmental construction is a great and meaningful event, which can not only promote the growth of the ecological resources in the rural areas and enhance the ability to prevent disasters and protect people’s life, but also increase the opportunities of employment in the rural areas and thus boost the whole social benefits. On the other hand, considering the complex and poor situations in Chinese rural areas, environmental protection is a very challenging career as well. Therefore, it is valuable to put forward some measures to protect environment in the rural areas, hoping it could be practical and effective for the environmental protection.
Strengthen the economic development and enhance the ability to protect the environment in the rural areas. To tell the truth, it is necessary that healthy ecological environment should be the basic to develop rural economy sustainably (Futian, 210). Also, the development of rural economy decides the environmental protection to a large extent. So to protect environment does not influence the development of economy at all. To develop economy should strengthen the infrastructure construction and organization plus ability construction of environmental protection, and increase the investment of environmental protection. When establishing the infrastructure construction, the rural areas should educate and employ professional staff and have clear punishment and supervision system (Zhang, 91). As for the increasing investment of environmental protection, government should establish practical management system and specialized capital investment for the environment protection.
Chinese rural areas should attach great importance to the science and technology and popularize practical and effective environmental technologies. Only with the great help of science and technology, the rural areas can realize the real situations and basic regulations of environmental problems to take specific measures to each environment problem. Also, only with the advancement of science and technology, rural areas can solve various kinds of environmental problems fundamentally. To achieve such the goals, rural areas should organize professional teams of environmental protection and strengthen ecological research to provide some intelligent supports for the environmental protection. Rural areas should enhance the support for the environment research to solve the serious environmental problems, such as the loss of water and soil, water pollution. Also, it is important to introduce agricultural technologies and organize periodic education of agricultural knowledge. Rural areas should guide farmers to make good use of fertilizers and reduce the fertilizers to pollute the environment.
Rural areas should promote government interference to the environment and construct environment reasonably and scientifically. In Chinese rural areas, government has a great influence on the environmental protection. Governments should restrain environmental pollution strictly by controlling the abuse of fertilizers and agricultural chemicals and supervising township enterprises’ abuse emission of pollutions. As we all know, environmental destructions are large produced by the abuse of fertilizers and agricultural chemicals. Governments should prevent and punish those phenomena that farmers use lots of fertilizers to pursue high economic profits with cost of environment pollution (Epstein, 231). Meanwhile, governments should establish reasonable regulations of producing and using the fertilizers and agricultural chemicals and strengthen the management of the use of fertilizers. In addition, governments should restrain the pollutions from the township enterprises on all the aspects of their production. At the start of the production, the pollutions should be reduced to the maximized extent and the wastes should be dealt with effectively at the end of the production. With the interference of governments, the pollutions in the rural areas can be reduced to a large extent.
Rural areas should establish practical laws about environmental protection and standardize the orders of environmental protection. If there were no complete laws of environmental protection, there would be confused to punish those who have damage environment seriously. With the practical environment laws, people would be afraid to damage environment without any limitation (Han, 101). And governments can have strong legal basis to supervise and punish those who have damage environment. Speaking of legislation, governments should implement the laws thoroughly and form a good circle to protect environment to the largest extent.
Finally, rural areas should enhance the awareness of environmental protection and deepen the education of environmental protection. Rural areas should strengthen the education first, adhering to the idea that the education is regarded as the foundation to protect the environment. Educational institutions in the rural areas should carry out campaigns about environmental protection and organize students to protect environment together as well as enhance the youth’s awareness of environmental protection. Meanwhile, rural areas should strengthen and expand announcement of environment protection. They can make the best of media, including newspaper, broadcast, TV or the Internet. Also, they can organize the villagers to participate in the activities of environmental protection. With the announcement going ahead, people in the rural areas must have realize the importance of environmental protection. In addition, rural areas can establish an environmental protection system that can make all the people in the rural areas participate in. With such the system, rural areas can not only promote the career of environmental protection, but also increase the employment opportunities and solve the employment problem as well.
Conclusion
All in all, environmental situations in Chineserural areas are still pretty serious and challenging. It is important and urgent to take some measures to solve the environmental problems, though such the problems seem to be very complex and difficult. With the increasingly good life today, the awareness of environmental protection is going into people’s hearts. Thus, with people’s efforts to protect the environment, the environmental problems could be solved one day. To solve the problems, Chinese rural areas can strengthen the economic development and application of science and technology. Meanwhile, by the increasing interference of governments, the legislation of environmental protection and increasing awareness of environmental protection, Chinese rural areas would be beautiful gardens.

Why did Spain and Portugal slip

In the early 17th century, Britain became the most powerful empire in the world by defeating Spanish Invincible Armada in 1588, which also marked Spain and Portugal’s position were replaced for ever since then. I think the problems in many aspects such as politics and economy account for the decline of the two countries.
Politically speaking, Spain and Portugal were still under feudal system while Britain had already entered the new era of constitutional monarchy. To gain wealth from other lands, groups of navigators on voyage were sent by the royal families and all the expenses were also supported by the rulers. Accordingly, all the wealth from overseas belonged to the royal families. The two countries became insanely rich because their “troops” raided large wealth form colonized land. The wealth was lavishly spent by the rulers since not too many efforts had been made. On the contrary, Britain’s expansion of overseas land first came from the organization of the society rather than the royal family. The wealth they got was carefully cherished. With money fast running out, Spain and Portugal must went to the doom of decline.
The backward economical systems in Spain and Portugal were the root cause for their decline. Though they had accumulated wealth in great amount, the economical development still remained in a traditional way. It was still handicraft industry across the two countries. The wealth was mostly spent on wars or religious stuff. Spain was involved in numerous wars with other European countries while Portugal poured too much money into their religious business. They didn’t develop mass-production industry as Britain did with the wealth. What they did were making profits by transporting the products from other European countries to colonies. The rapid development of industry made England the first capitalized country, which was also the most import way to secure its most powerful position in the world. The unreasonable usage of their wealth finally made Spain and Portugal lose the title of two biggest powers.
The decline of the two countries also resulted from bunches of social problems. The most severe problem happened between the rulers and the common people. The wealth from colonies only made the royal families the richest people in the world, but their people were still impoverished. In Portugal, the parents only dreamed that they could send their children to the church so that they wouldn’t be starved to death. What made the situation worse was that the rulers still levied high tax on the people. They didn’t strive to make the people live a better life but exploiting them as much as they could. Complaints and anger were everywhere in the countries. Technically speaking, it was the royal family who became the richest countries in the world, not the whole country. So the decline of Spain and Portugal was the inevitable process with the development of other countries.
Besides the problems resided internally, the ways they dealt with their colonial land also facilitated their decline. Both of the two countries were not large either in territory or in population, but they had vast colonial land overseas especially Spain. Their colonies were scattered all over the world, so how to govern the colonies properly became one of the biggest concerns for them. Their lands were eventually taken away by other countries since they couldn’t send enough hands to guard their wealth. The internal conflicts and external threaten from other countries all lead to the decline of Spain and Portugal.

下面为大家整理一篇优秀的essay代写范文 -- A speech for a character story,文章讲述大家好。今天,我演讲的主题是关于“人类的战争”。您可能很好奇,这种最反人类的东西如何在战争中成为人类的一部分。但是,在我对美国战争电影的研究中,我发现它确实确实是人类的因素。现在,让我们开始。

A speech for a character story
Hello everyone. Today the topic of my presentation is about THE WARS OF HUMANITY. You might be curious that how come the war this most anti-human stuff becomes a part of humanity. In my research on American war films, however, I found that it does act as the factor of humanity actually. Now, let us start.
People hate wars. In wars, people were killed. Families were turned down. Civilizations were in ruins. Wars are the monster that out of control. The complete overthrow of human decency developed over the years. Have you ask yourself, why there are wars?
According to some people, the history of human is a history of wars. Though wars come at heavy cost of lost of tens of thousands of people’s lives, wars open the doorways to the a brand new world. Only in the wars when people feel the deepest pressures of probing into the very existence of people themselves, and therefore in a sense, it is the wars and the noble questioning of the essence of life that outline people’s being on this plant.
I guess that’s why there are so much American war films all the time. Let’s see are you a real American war films fan? How many of these films you can tell the names? These films are “A bridge too far,” “Black hawk down,” “Courage under fire,” “The first blood,” “The longest day,” “Top gun,” and “Transformer.” Some of it reflects the fact, some the fantasy, some the weapon, some the mission, some the courage, some the technique.
What are the roles these films taking in the history? As what is described in a Catalogue of Films, “the war film” is the film depicts mainly the story of wars, and focus on people’s destiny in wars. Then, let’s us dig in the history of American war films itself. The ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT is believed as the first war film of the U.S. As the showcase of social ideology, this film indicates a strong tendency of anti-war attitude. By its emphasis on individualism, it denies the necessity of participation in wars.
But there is also the example of how the earliest American war films of the U.S. romanizes the war. By the release of American war films which holds positive view towards wars like Wings in 1927, and Hell’s Angles in 1930 depicting the passionate life of air force soldiers during WWI, many young American start to have interests to join the army. And therefore the crucial effect of how American war films affect people in the way as propaganda was no sooner realized by the American military.
One of the early successful example of these intension was the authority documentary Why We Fight. It reflects the special social background of the U.S. in WWII, during which people, the Hollywood and the government worked together. A series of pro-America American war films were produced during this time. For instance, Marshall also approved the shooting of film, Why We Fight, on the purpose of war propaganda.
But you know, what people experienced I the war was definitely not the rosy picture in those positive film. Just imagine how people would feel in the gap between the blue picture drown by the authority and the cruel reality. If you were those audiences, how would you feel? You might think what the hell are these lies. So, it was natural that American war films lost its charm and audiences went into two extreme gradually, to the warship zealot, or the anti-war hippies.
As the result, the honeymoon of the authority and the Hollywood ended. I would like to categorize the afterwards American war films into three sorts. One of them is still showing the courage and righteous of American soldiers. One of them is aiming at revealing the dark and corrupted side of the war. Another is pure antiwar film genre.
However, whatever genre of films at the end falls on the story of people, so do the American war films. Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Saving private Ryan, and even the Pearl Harbor, which is named after the war site, are actually all about people in wars.
One of the examples is the Back Hawk Down. It avoids the one-sided advertising of the courage of American soldiers, but focuses on the brotherhood among the individuals who participated in the rescue mission in the Somalia. This operation on the contrast wins support of the audience for its natural way of story telling.
Whatever effect the war films achieve, it could not change the cruel nature of wars. The wars are cruel and dirty, though some sparkle of humanity in the war distinguish it as the “good war.” At the end the war reveals people’s nature. At the same time, the war films attract people, but they also annoy people. However, as what we can see by reviewing its course of development, it is all about people.
Thank you for listening.
