The model of ordinary people in political science

2020-09-14 19:08:44 | 日記

下面为大家整理一篇优秀的essay代写范文 --The model of ordinary people in political science,文章讲述我认为将杰克逊(Jackson)选为平民百姓的冠军更为准确。

I think it is more accurate to cast Jackson as the champion of the common man.  More nearly than any of his predecessors, Andrew Jackson was elected by popular vote; As President he sought to act as the direct representative of the common man. Why is it more accurate to see him as the champion of the common man? I think two factors can contribute to it. First, what he experienced can be regarded as the paragon of the common man due to his family background. He threw all of his efforts to work and tried his best to do well in the field of his career. For instance, He was the first man elected from Tennessee to the House of Representatives, and he served briefly in the Senate. He was occupied in lawyer and senator. He also was the general of an army. What he experienced set foot in many fields which reflected the reality of the common people. So he knew a lot about the life of the lower class. Meanwhile, he did what he could to preserve the rights of the common people. So he is seen as the champion of the common man. Second, his career decides his role in the country. By 1828 he had joined "Old Hickory" to win numerous state elections and control of the Federal administration in Washington. In his first Annual Message to Congress, Jackson recommended eliminating the Electoral College. As the president of the country, he broke through the party monopoly and realized the true democracy. Two parties grew out of the old Republican Party--the Democratic Republicans and the National Republicans during his incumbency. He brought the true democracy to America and provided more opportunities for the common people to enter into the government. Besides this, he charged the Bank with undue economic privilege in his vetoing the recharter bill and got high approval. It was Jackson's war on the Second Bank of the United States that consolidated his reputation as a champion of the common man. He got his success from a common man, but devoted his life for the people without any complain. So I think it is more accurate to see him as the champion of the common man.

The creed of journalists

After reading The Journalist’s Creed written by Walter Williams, I would like to point out that the eight principles of journalism he endorses are full of justice, kindness and wisdom, which bring us a lot of thinking. First of all, he considers journalism as a sacred profession which requires people’s right attitudes. Secondly, he points out that all the people referred by the public journal should be reliable and they are trustees for the public who need to be responsible for the public. Meanwhile, he warns that any one who is driven by profits rather than public service is a betrayer of his trust. By this way, he harshly criticizes those greedy journalists who only think about money. Thirdly, he recommends that to be a good journalism, clear thinking and clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental. These are standard requirements a journalist must meet. Fourthly, he thinks that what a journalist said must be consistent with what he thought to be true. This means that as a journalist, one needs to have a clear mind of the criterion of truth and can not fabricate rumors. The next principle he suggests is that no one can suppress the news except those who put the public welfare in the first place. This is an important requirement of the freedom of journalism, the precondition for ensuring people’s right to know. While it is unwise to sacrifice the public welfare for the journalism freedom. In addition, he believes that if a man can not say in good manners, or if a man can easily be affected by his won or other people’s prejudice he should not write as a journalist. Journalism has a function of inheriting and passing on civilization. It can also provide guidance for social trends. Therefore, journalist should behave properly and meet the requirements of social ethic. The news which is misled by the author’s prejudice may become exaggerated, subjective, and misleading. This means that the journalist fails to take his own responsibility. Besides, Williams also says that journalism should serve the best interests of readers. The most important thing for journalism is to hold a helpful truth seeking attitude. For the false news is harmful to the public interests, truthful and benefit to readers are very important for journalism. Last but not least, he tells some characters that journalism should has--be stoutly independent, unmoved by pride of opinion or greed of power, constructive, tolerant but never careless, self-controlled, patient. It is respectful of its readers but always unafraid, is quickly indignant at injustice, is unswayed by the appeal of privilege or the clamor of the mob. It seeks to give every man a chance and is profoundly patriotic.

Nowadays, the principles mentioned by Walter Williams in the beginning of the 20th century still have great affection. They are just like mirrors that can help the public to recognize the ugly face of false journalism.

Firstly, taking CNN and BBC for an example, during the Beijing Olympic Games, Some journalists in CNN and BBC, such as Jack Cafferty, warped the reality and distorted the truth with the intention of insulting Chinese people. They not only forgot the original meaning of journalism but also betrayed the standard of justice and object. They should not be included in the press media industry. On one hand, just as Williams says, “no one should write as a journalist what he would not say as a gentleman” they are incompetent journalists and they should be to balm for their baseless accusation and attacks on the relay of the Beijing Olympic Games. On the other hand, their report fails to promote international goodwill and strengthen the friendship of the world.

In addition, CNN and BBC, the mainstream medium in western countries are desperately fond of some particular news. For example, we can easily find so many news about how Tibetan separatists disturb the Beijing Olympic Games and how they split China. However, these medium are reluctant to report or even ignore and misrepresent the actions of ethnic Chinese who support the Beijing Olympics and are against the Tibetan separatists. They can not “accuracy and fairness” thus they lose the “fundament to good journalism”. Walter Williams’ The Journalist’s Creed is the beginning of the construction of media ethics in America. Afterwards, many news professional groups has set up a series of ethical principles for journalism. Until 1947 the Journalist’s Creed was generally accepted by western press. It can be considered as the basic code of professional ethics. If journalists can not submit the basic professional ethics, how can they take full responsibilities for the society?

However, with the development of the society, we need to pay attention to some new problems and to update and add some new creeds which conform to the trend of the times. Personally, I would like to set up five principles:

Setting up accurate scale so that journalists can do some self-reflection.

Seeking approaches that can facilitate public supervision on journalism.

Cooperating with each other and ensuring fair competition.

Respecting the masses as well as peer fellows.

Carrying forward the theme of the current age.

Sometimes, journalists are too absorbed in what they are reporting to find out their own prejudice. Then a series of strict and accurate scale is needed which can remind the journalists of their shortcomings. Thus setting up accurate scale is desperately needed. What’s more, because the purpose of journalism is to serve the public, public supervision on journalism is consequently essential. Besides, the rapid improvement in IT-industry brings great challenge to the press industry. It is really difficult for journalists to pick out the right information for the right audience. So the journalists need to cooperate with each other and more importantly they should try to build an environment of fair competition. In the modern world, competition is unavoidable and essential at the same time. It can bring a lot of benefits if competition can run by rules. In other words, fair competition rather than vicious competition is welcome. Through fair competition, journalists can overcome their shortcomings by learning from other’s strong points. It is easy to understand that journalism should respect the masses. After all it serves the public. While, the peer fellows of journalists should also be respected including their original thoughts their reports as well as their own achievements. Last but not least, as the guidance of public opinion, journalism need to carry forward the main theme of the times. Only if the people in our society have the common dream and value, can our society become more and more thriving and prosperous.

With the ample information from the Internet and traditional press, we may own a widely open window to see the world. We may feel so tight and painful when our compatriots suffer from some harm which may be from the war or some server illness. What’s more, we may also feel so happy to share what we want and experience with other people just like the Olympic Games. At present, we become more dependent on the development of the information industry. So the journalists shoulder the responsibility to report the truth of the event. Each of them should have the respect to his or her career and show more earnest to what he or she does. Meanwhile, on one hand, the public should give considerate comprehension and toleration to the journalists. On the other hand, we should supervise their behavior and the contents of the report. In order to construct a harmonious society, it is the journalists’ duty and responsibility to reflect the truth of the report. But it is also our duty to give more attention and supervision to its development.

The historical characteristics of ancient Chinese feudal society

It is really my honor to be here to give a presentation for you. Today, the topic I want to share with you is how the feudal society oppress the laboring class. From the brief introduction of China history, we can see that the feudal society had been existing in China about 2100 years. During this super long time, the feudal system had been strengthened by every dynasty’s emperor. Almost every Chinese is proud of their country’s long history and splendid culture. However, there is a dark side behind it too. According to the feudal society depicted by Lu Xun, it’s hard to imagine for us that the farmers and other laboring class had suffered in ancient China. Most of time, they lived on the margin of survival because of the unequal treatment and merciless oppression of the rulers. From my perspective, the feudal society exploits the populous mainly by way of mind and thought control. In the following time, I will support my statement by making use of Lu Xun’s two famous works. They are The True Story of Ah Q and Preface to "Call to Arms".

First, let me give a brief introduction to the some features of feudal society in ancient China.

In culture, people are completely controlled by the ruling class. People can not freely express their minds or thoughts especially those arguments against the ruling class. In the economy, most of the laboring class haven’t land because of the feudal land ownership. In politics, centralized feudal monarchy make the members of laboring class in ancient China almost haven’t any politic rights. They are expected to adhere to the instructions of the authority and rules with absolution obedience.

The True Story of Ah Q mainly narrates the miserable life of Ah Q and the ugly features of feudal society of China. In this article, the protagonist Ah Q is one whose mind is deeply poisoned by the feudal culture. He is from the peasant class with little education and no definite work, but never have a thought about the roots of his tragic life. Ah Q is a bully of the less fortune but fearful of those people who are above him in the rank, strength or power. He is famous for his ‘mental victories’ when he suffer humiliation. What’ more, Ah Q later devoted himself to the revolution with the hope of changing his fate though he doesn’t know anything about revolution. In the end, Ah Q was executed for treason. Ah Q’ tragedy is a true portrayal of life of lowering class members in that time. They are eager to change their situation, but with the feudal ideas in their mind, they are bound to accomplish nothing.

Preface to "Call to Arms" also proves the side impacts of feudal cultures. In the preface, Lu Xun told us where the stories come from. Lu Xun went to Japan to study medicine with the hope that he could cure patients who had been wrongly treated like his father. However, he changed his mind after seeing a movie about a Chinese’s execution in Japan. He realized that medical science was not so important. The most important thing that the people of China in that time need is to change spirit. Lu Xun compares the feudal system in China to an iron house without windows. The iron house extremely restrained the people’s minds and sights, and people almost have no any chance to get away from it. Most important of all, the people inside the iron house were falling into sleep, they have no idea what happened to them at all. Owing to the pollution of feudal culture and the mind control, most of the people in that time are blindness and ignorant. They are apathetic, and dare not to stand up like the people of western country against the ruling class. Therefore, Lu Xun chose to become a champion of democracy to wake up Chinese people through writing.

OK, this is my today’s speech. After discussing the features of feudal society and and explaining it by The True Story of Ah Q and Preface to "Call to Arms". I hope you all can have a better understand about the oppression that the ruling class had exerted upon the laboring class. Thank you for your attention.

The endangered panda in biology

Referring to pandas, there is no doubt that they are one of the most popular animals in the world. However, due to their rarity and special appearance, they succeed in catching the whole world’s attention.

So what are pandas? Pandas are animals that have a white coat with black fur around their eyes, on their ears, muzzle, legs and shoulders. They have some unique physical features such as broad, flat molar teeth and enlarged wrist bone that functions as an opposable thumb. Both of these physical attributes help the panda to hold, crush and eat bamboo. “Giant pandas are about 150cm long from nose to rump, with a 10-15cm tail. A large adult panda can weigh about 100-150kg, with males 10% larger and 20% heavier than females” (Wikipedia). Giant pandas are generally solitary, each adult having a well-defined home range, within which they move about regularly and encounters are rare outside the brief mating season. “She ate within a circle of three feet, moved a few steps and ate some more, consuming only coarse stems and discarding the leafy tops; she then sat hunched, forepaws in her lap, drowsy and content. Within a circle of 3,000 feet was her universe, all that she needed: bamboo, a mate, a snug tree-den in which to bear young." (Schaller 291)  Therefore, Pandas are believed to be poor breeders. This is an impression based on the disappointing reproductive performance of captive pandas. But wild panda populations involved in long-term studies are known to have reproductive rates comparable to those of some populations of American black bears, which are thriving. A Panda's daily menu consists almost entirely of the leaves, stems, and shoots of various bamboo species. As members of the bear family, giant pandas possess the same digestive system of a carnivore but they differ in the sense that they have adapted to a vegetarian diet. This behavior defines their lives in many ways, since they will often rely on living close to areas where bamboo is abundant. This leaves them vulnerable to any loss of bamboo habitat – a key threat to their survival.

Hence, bamboo is essential to such a kind of animal. Nowadays, giant pandas have become the national treasure of China and are regarded as a way to make diplomacy. It is often heard that China has sent or lend a panda to a certain country to show the friendship, from which we can see the preciousness of pandas with the evidence that they are treated extremely well. As so many people are curious about the phenomenon that pandas only exist in China, studies have been made by lots of relevant researchers. Firstly, its eating habit should be analyzed. Pandas are one of the world’s most fascinating vegetarians. Their digestive systems evolved to process meat, yet they eat nothing but bamboo—all day, every day. The two bamboo species in Qinling, wood bamboo and arrow bamboo, grow at different elevations and sprout new shoots and leaves at different times of the year. During mating season in the spring, pandas fed on young wood bamboo shoots, which are rich in nitrogen and phosphorous. In June, the wood bamboo shoots had matured and contained fewer nutrients, so pandas migrated to higher elevations and started eating young arrow bamboo shoots. However, both species’ shoots had low calcium levels, which pushed pandas toward the next dietary shift in mid-July: young arrow bamboo leaves, which are rich in calcium. This dietary juggling act not only affecst panda reproduction, but also explains the small distributions of pandas. Since bamboo is native to a variety of tropical locations and these bamboos are typically sun-lovers, it will be reasonable that they only grow in some certain areas.

According to statistics, by 2004, there were estimated to be 1,600 pandas alive in the wild. Although there seems to be an increase comparing to the numbers decades years ago, the situation of pandas’ species is not optimistic. Through analysis, there are two obvious reasons which will be discussed respectively from a natural and human factor. In populations of wild animals, evolution works on many characters at the one time. In herds of domestic animals, which are claimed to reflect evolution in action, only a few characters are selected by the breeder. For characters which is controlled by many genes (rather than just one gene), genetic studies show that the character's heritability is crucial. Low heritability means that a character makes virtually no progress in taking over a population. Evolution under natural conditions should therefore only work on one or two characters at a time, and then only on those characters that are controlled by a single gene. It is interesting to note that the Giant Panda does not fit this scenario - it appears to be an exception. If evolution is true, with our knowledge only an interpretation of the past events, then animals should fit the scientific model. Dr. Li Shaochang, the director of China's Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, believes that “Giant Pandas will only exist for the next one or two decades. They are not becoming extinct because of human slaughter, but because they are not good breeders in the wild” (Li 18). Despite Giant Pandas having 'evolved', Chen Yucun, Director of the Fuzhou Zoological Society, reported that the male and female pandas have reproductive incompatibilities. Even with an IVF (artificial breeding) program, scientists foresee problems even with breeding pandas in captivity. Now if evolution produces life on earth, the theory and simulations show that strong breeding ability has to be selected for, otherwise a species will not produce a large enough population for evolution act on. Some may say that pandas have lost their reproductive ability because evolution is not working on them at the moment. With no natural predators to keep their breeding fine-tuned, pandas are "devolving" in that area.

However, another important reason causing the small number of giant pandas is the interference of human beings. The rapid development of modern China's economy and infrastructure provides an increasing threat to the giant panda. The climate change caused by the quantities of instructions has made a huge influence on the habitat of these fragile animals. As mentioned before, giant pandas live on one specific plant—bamboos. However, bamboo can be a risky crop to stake survival on because it has an unusual reproductive cycle. It only “flower and reproduce every 30 to 35 years, which limits the plants' ability to adapt to changing climate and can spell disaster for a food supply” (nsf.gov). Therefore, the decreasing of its food sources leads pandas to a harder life. Habitat loss destroys bamboo, which is the giant panda's sole food source. It also isolates pandas causing a reduction in the rate that mating and reproduction occurs. However, the giant panda population also is threatened by other human disturbances and climate change is only one challenge for the giant pandas. Poachers kill only a few pandas each year, but hunters of other animals in the area accidentally kill pandas on a more regular basis further reducing their numbers. Furthermore, people occupy more and more land by cutting down trees or other plants, shrinking the living circles of the pandas as well as other animals. The disappearing of their homeland also put them into a tough condition.

Faced with such a phenomenon, we have to consider the necessity to take measures to protect this species. One reason is that panda is one of the beautiful creatures in this world (perhaps universe) so we need to save it for its intrinsic value. As being a sensible creature we human beings must correct our activities. Pandas are being lost and killed due to their habitat destruction, poaching and killing. Why a species in world to be put in danger due to another species? It is an ethical responsibility to be taken by entire human beings. Is it a good thing to kill an independent and beautiful species of this world? If some people have done mistakes (killing and destroying species) in past, isn't it our responsibility to correct those mistakes, so that we can handle the beauty of nature to the next generation. Plus, by saving the panda, we are actually helping preserve the rich biodiversity. The survival of the panda and the protection of its habitat will ensure the quality of life of millions of people living in the area. For instance, the panda habitat is found at the top of the Yangtze Basin, an ecoregion shared by both pandas and communities who have used the region's natural resources for thousands of years. The basin is the geographic and economic heart of China, and is one of the critical places for biodiversity conservation in the world. By protecting the biological diversity and their habitat, we will guarantee that the populations living in the region will continue to reap ecosystem benefits for many future generations. It goes without saying that the ecological environment is of vital importance. Only with the ecological balance can we human beings live a better life.

Here are some practical measures. Since habitat loss is a major concern, government enforcing policies to reduce or stop development of forest area will help considerably. Promoting conservation messages and heightening awareness of people around the world are important. Let people know about the plight of the Giant Pandas and how they can contribute. It may seem that ordinary people can do nothing to save pandas since we cannot establish reservations or breed pandas artificially. Nevertheless, we can prevent ourselves from disturbing or destroying their living environment. Keeping away from their habitat and stopping hunting for them will make a great difference. To prevent giant pandas from becoming extinct, mankind needs to learn to live without converting all the panda homelands into human spaces. That is because pandas need food, space, low stress and access to mates. If they are forced to live in small pockets of bamboo forests surrounded by mankind, they may have limited food, small areas to roam, enhanced stress from nearby noise, pollution, or industrial interference, and if their environments are separated from each other, they may not be able to reach enough potential mates to keep their gene pool varied enough to be viable. Besides, we can also protect these creatures from extinction by raising awareness about these animals. In order to save pandas, or any other seriously endangered animal, people need to know about the growing need for action against the dangers to the animals. Scientists need to continue to research panda bears to try and understand them better, which may aid in saving the animals later on. Certain organizations are supposed to support the research and conservation of the pandas. Raising pandas in captivity to raise the panda population by zoos worldwide can also be a feasible way.

To conclude, giant pandas are decreasing to extinction. Everyone is responsible to save them since preserving pandas is one part of our plans to build a harmonious world. To save endangered species means to save ourselves.

Psychology: Staying up late may vary from person to person

2020-09-14 18:59:00 | 日記

为大家整理一篇优秀的essay代写范文 -- Psychological issues that may vary from person to person,文章讲述我的母亲说:“哦,天哪,您还在那里,几乎是凌晨三点。”

“Oh my god, you are still there, it is almost three o’clock in the morning” said my mother. Recently, due to the homework assignments that my instructors asked me to do, I have to stay up very late. More often than not, I have to stay up all night in order to finish my papers on time. This conversation is not uncommon after I was enrolled into a university. Apart from that, I stay up late having fun with my peers. The reasons why I stay up includes but not limits: homework as well as having fun. The effect of this is serious; I do not have any energy in the following day.

One day, a mentor gave me homework to do, but for me, I did not have any idea how to do that, because I had never done that before. Hence, I had to go to the library to look for it. However, the thing was not that easy, after reading for a couple of hours in a library, I still did not know what to do. When I got home, it was already 11 o’clock at night; I had to surf on the internet in order to finish my homework. Time lapsed incredibly fast; I did not realize when the hand of the clock struck 5 in the morning. I felt worried because I did not complete my essay on time, but I had to go to school.

It was my birthday; my friends took me to a wide range of places to have fun. I knew it was not correct to stay up having fun, but I like playing with my friends and enjoying the fabulous moment to my heart’s content. After the midnight, I decided to go back home while my friends were still singing and dancing. Of course, I was not allowed to go home; therefore, I had to continue singing and dancing. Staying up is common for me, thus, I did not feel uncomfortable at all.

However, staying up will have a price to pay for it. After staying up, I will feel extremely tired and exhausted; I do not have any desire to do anything. Attending classes seems to be a difficult task for me. Once upon a time, I went to bed late, so when I went to school, I regarded the desk as my bed and lied on it. I did not know what happened until my friend woke me up. I felt embarrassed as long as I was aware of what I had done. As a matter of fact, this consequence can entirely be avoided as long as we have self-control. Nothing is more important than having a excellent sleep which ensures to have a good health. Everything that is not so urgent can be delayed.

The causes of staying up may vary from person to person. The main things are either having something urgent or hanging out with friends. I firmly believed that these things can be avoided. People should always know what is the most important. Health is the crucial factor that keeps us alive. Without health, we could not do anything. People can delay something that is not more important than health. Moreover, people can choose to get up early to do homework instead of staying up.
