What’s the farthest you’ve ever walked? Around the block? A mile or two or more?

After they were freed from slavery in Egypt, the children of Israel began a long walk to the Promised Land. But this walk lasted 40 years.

On the way, God spoke with Moses, not only giving him the Ten Commandments but also passing on some detailed instructions on how to build a tabernacle. A tabernacle was kind of like a church—only it was a huge tent. Because their journey was on foot, the tabernacle had to be portable so they could carry it with them.

The tabernacle’s huge tent was to be a place where they could gather in God’s presence and celebrate everything God did for them. It was also the place where they made sacrifices for their sins. The tabernacle was where God’s holy presence could live near them.

And in this house, this huge tent, God put more clues about His promised Messiah. Everywhere in this tent were clues to finding Him.

For example, there were two rooms in God’s house: a big room called the “Holy” and a smaller room called the “Most Holy.” In the large room were three pieces of furniture: an oil lamp stand, a table with 12 loaves of special bread, and an altar for burning incense.

These are three clues pointing to Jesus, the coming Messiah:

Jesus is the light of the world.

Jesus is the bread of life.

Jesus is our intercessor, continually praying to God on our behalf.

The stone tablets of the Ten Commandments are another clue about the coming Messiah because they point to why He came. The commandments teach us God’s standards, but they leave us with a problem. Because no one can obey them precisely over a lifetime or even for one day, every person needs a Savior. Each of us needs our sin covered by the blood of Jesus.

Only Jesus’ blood makes it so that we can be with God all the time, forever. His sacrifice was once for all.

Father, thank you for giving us eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to believe. And because you love us, you have left countless clues for us to discover, all leading to your matchless gift of Jesus, the Messiah. How wonderful it is to know that all your promises come true.

Yesterday we prayed: God, help me get to know You as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, You are my Guide.

Who is the Holy Spirit, and how does He guide us? Do we have to act really spiritual to get the Spirit’s attention? Jesus promised something different.

Jesus described the Holy Spirit as a comforter, advocate, helper, and friend. Do you know anyone like that? Maybe a mentor, mother, or wise friend? As you read Jesus’ words, think about the Holy Spirit as your Comforter, Advocate, Helper, and Friend.

Jesus made this promise to His followers while telling them He would soon leave to be with the Father.

His followers might have felt confused, worried, or even abandoned, but Jesus clarified that His physical leaving was less about going away and more about coming closer.

Jesus was coming closer because the Holy Spirit would not only be with us, but in us: the Spirit did what Jesus promised and came to fill His followers with the same comfort, power, and love that filled Jesus.

By saying yes to living Jesus’ way, we invite the Holy Spirit to help, comfort, and advocate for and through us.

Sharing Faith with Family Prayerfully

Often, we want to share the Gospel with our family members and friends, but we are not sure where to start. We need to start with prayer. Remember, Christ is even more interested in your family members being saved than you are. He died for them as well. The Scriptures tell us that in His infinite love, God does not want anyone to perish. Rather, He desires for every person to come to Him in repentance and receive His gift of eternal life.

We need prayer in everything we do in life. Sharing our faith is not an exception. Come to God in prayer about the salvation of your loved ones. While the Bible emphasizes the importance of faith within families, we must understand that each individual must come to personal faith in Christ. Our prayers for our loved ones are vital, trusting God to work in their hearts and draw them to Himself. We need to stand on this and other promises of God when we pray for our unbelieving family members and friends.

Another amazing thing about prayer is that it does not depend on us. It does not rely on our presence. It does not need our words. Prayer is not limited to our influence. God may even choose to use someone other than us as the evangelist to reach our family member or friend; that should encourage us. Even if we are close to someone, this closeness does not mean that God cannot use another person to bring this individual to conversion. We are not the ones who save people; God is.

Moreover, when we pray for our loved ones’ salvation, we can receive God’s guidance and wisdom. In His Word, the Lord promised to give wisdom to those who ask Him for it. When we pray, the Holy Spirit can show us the right time to share our faith. He can also give us the right words to use to share it. A prayer is a powerful tool in evangelism. When we pray God works in us and through us to accomplish His will. The salvation of our family members is God’s will. We need to come to His presence daily praying that our loved ones come to know Him as their Lord and Savior. As we pray, God will use us or other believers to bring the people dear to us to His saving grace.

She Saw the Lord

Mary Magdalene is one of the most well-known women from the Bible. She was with Jesus through much of His ministry, to the end of His life and after His resurrection. The first time we meet Mary in Scripture, Jesus has already worked a miracle in her:

“...Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out…”

Luke 8:1-2 (NIV)

Imagine feeling helpless, tormented, hopeless. Indescribably crushed under the oppressive weight of evil and without any way out. You may not need to imagine it–you might already identify with what Mary was going through.

But then, Jesus came and set Mary Magdalene free.

In a moment, He relieved her of her torment. She was healed. And she saw Him. She followed Him. From a distance, she watched the crucifixion as her Savior gave His life for all (Mark 15:40). And then, she saw where he was laid (Mark 15:47).

Ever faithful, Mary Magdalene and two other women who followed Jesus rose early in the morning and went to anoint Jesus’ body.

But there was no one there.

At this empty tomb, Mary wept in grief thinking Jesus had been taken away. But then she heard Jesus’ voice:

“Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.’ She turned towards him and cried out in Aramaic, ‘Rabboni!’ (which means ‘Teacher’).”

John 20:16 NIV

Jesus then trusted her with an important task. “Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God” (John 20:17 NIV).

The news of Jesus’ resurrection took flight through Mary Magdalene, the woman who had once been crushed by suffering. Of all the people He could have chosen for this moment of glorious discovery and critical communication, He chose her.

And she went to the disciples with the very same news that had changed her life to begin with: “I have seen the Lord!” (John 20:18 NIV).

Our lives should reflect the light of Christ and draw others to Him.

Matthew 5:13-16 13 ``You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? What statement is your life making? Jesus said that to the watching world, believers should be like salt and light. If we add salt to soup, the improved taste is obvious, and when we bring light into a room, darkness flees. Our character, conduct, and conversation should make a statement about the importance of God, the necessity of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

主に栄光をもたらす意義深い人生を送るには、信者はまず聖書を読み、学ぶことから始めなければなりません。神の言葉を黙想すると、神はご自身を明らかにされ、私たちは徐々に神の原則を吸収し、それが日々の生活に現れ始めます。

To lead a life of significance that brings glory to the Lord, believers must begin by reading and studying the Scriptures. As we meditate on God’s Word, He reveals Himself and we gradually absorb His principles, which begin to show in our daily living.

聖書の教訓を学ぶ良い方法の一つは、アブラハム、モーセ、ダニエル、ルツ、ダビデ、エステル、マリア、パウロなどの偉大な聖人の生涯を研究することです。彼らの物語は、彼らがどのように対処したか、過ちから何を発見したか、そして主とどのように交流したかについて、私たちに多くのことを教えてくれます。

One good way to learn Scripture’s lessons is by researching the lives of great saints like Abraham, Moses, Daniel, Ruth, David, Esther, Mary, and Paul. Their stories have much to teach us about the way they coped, what they discovered from mistakes, and how they interacted with the Lord.

これらの聖書の記述や他の聖句から、天の父が私たちの人生に目的を持っていることが分かります。父は私たちを御子の姿に似せることを望んでおられます。このことを認識すれば、私たちは協力し、使徒パウロがしたように、他の人をキリストに導く灯台になることができます。「私がキリストに倣う者であるように、あなたがたも私に倣いなさい」（コリント人への第一の手紙 11:1）。

From these biblical accounts as well as other passages, we learn that our heavenly Father has a goal for our life. He desires to conform us to the image of His Son. Recognizing this, we can cooperate and become beacons guiding others to Christ, as the apostle Paul did: “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1).
