On 16th of September 2023 around 4:30 pm, our piggy Moru passed away after having fought with pain and disconfort for a long period.
We got her from a gardening shop back in November 2017 as a friend of our piggy Kosson, who passed away in June 2019.
Since Moru became our family member, she made us smile and laugh with her somewhat comical nature.
She went under scalpel in August 2019 to remove a lump (tumor), and she recovered very well.
In August 2020 she lost her fur (not entirely, though) and she was not very well. In September 2020 her new friend Zelie joined to our household.
Moru and Zelie got along with each other very very well from the very beginning, but Moru was found that she had an ovarian cyst in November 2020. Our vet told us the outcome of the operation and prognosis would not be very positive, we agreed not to remove it.
She suffered from pain, sometimes lost appetite and had to visit the vet. But she fought to it and she always showed her adolable face to us.
Then on 1 July this year (2023), her friend Zelie passed away suddenly. Moru was very very sad and upset. She did not move and she stayed in a blanket that smelt Zelie, she developed a bumble foot and it got really severe. Though I visited an emergency vet right away, the antibiotics that the vet prescribed did not seem to work.
At the end of July, I took Moru to our exotic vet and was told that the prognosis was rather bad, just a couple of weeks would be left for Moru. I could not believe it, as Moru's eyes were still shining and she was eating well. There our fight began.
Moru fought to it hard and she overcame to it. Sadly, the other foot she did not use got really weak so she struggled to walk.
Then we adopeted two rescue pigs on 5 of August this year for Moru.
Moru's 6th anniversary was at the beginning of September, so the two friends (and accessories for housing ) were for her birthday!
Moru seemed very happy. But one of the newly adopted piggies (both are sow) tended to be bossy, she attacked another piggy and eventually Moru when they were on her way. Then the other one took the (bad) habit and she started to attack Moru. As Moru had difficulties walking and she was weak in general, she became a victim.
Even so she prefered to be with them and she did have some nice time with them. They did attack Moru but they somewhat paid some respect to Moru, too. Until the end she did not hesitate to hiss them when they got closer to Moru with bad intention.
Moru became weaker and weaker. She ate well but she gradually lost lots of weight.
From 14 of September she refused her veg dish and she did not seem to eat a lot, (until 13 of September, she ate well), I tried everything, including Critical care.
On the 15 of September, I took her to the vet but as I expected, the vet told me that this was due her age. The vet confirmed that the bumble foot had been cured, but there was no remedy to her loss of appetite. He prescribed Metacam for cat, which Moru loved so much. After that she ate some hay, tomato, carrot leaves and some apple.
From the morning of the 16th of September she really stopped to eat. She bit a slice of banana, but it seemed that Moru had no energy to eat (though when I show her favourites, she wanted to eat it). Eventually I had to force-feeding her some Critical care. She did manage some but she struggled to eat when I continued. So I gave her small amount often, but Moru went weaker and weaker.
I spend most of my time with Moru especially in the afternoon.
I took Moru in my arms, and I told her how much I loved her and I said sorry to her about some things I did not do correctly. I even had time to share some memories with Moru and she looked very very happy. When I had to stop myself for a while, Moru wanted me to continue. So after a while, I continued.
When I said I loved her from the day one and would love her forever, she looked so happy and when I apologised her, she looked 'Don't worry, that was fine'.
I put her on my chest and took a nap as we used to do. Normally Moru would take a nap with me, too. But this time it was different.
When I nodded off, my hands pressed Moru's body so she let me know of it. Whenever she did it and I woke up, I saw that Moru was looking at me so intensely, as if she did so to remember me. I, too, wanted to look at Moru to remember this moment but it really made me sleepy. We spent around half an hour having a nap together (though Moru did not want to sleep).
She loved her family (my daughter, two piggies, and other two piggies who had passed away before Moru) until the last moment.
I did not know it that Moru was about to say goodbye, but just half an hour before that moment, I let Moru see her two friends. I even put her inside the fence. Two friends came to say hi to Moru, sniffing around Moru (even though part of the reason of that was that because Moru smelt Critical care). They ate critical care so happily and Moru was looking at them. I was telling Moru I will make some again for her.
Then I took her back in my arms and I told her I loved you a lot. My daughter was there and she said Moru opened her ear and her eyes shone, Moru looked delighted. So my daughter said that she loved Moru a lot and a lot, and I told her again that I loved her very very much. We shared very happy moment.
Then I thought maybe Moru might have been able to eat some grains (she munched sometimes). I went to look for it with Moru still in my arms. I was continuously telling her what I was doing.
I found it and when I went back to the side of the piggy fence (it took five minutes at the longest), my daughter noticed that Moru did not look alive.
I checked her face, instantly I agreed with her that Moru was different from when I saw her five minutes ago. I checked her body and saw that Moru was no longer breathing.
Moru did not cry, nor she made any movement while she was in my arms. She literally went to the rainbow bridge as she slept.
We were very sad and we are still sad, but the first thing I said to my daughter was ' Moru was such a brave pig, she did her very best till the end'. And we were quite sure that Moru wanted to be with me, being in my arms, also with her family when she passed away - and she was definitely in my arms. While I searched the grain, I continued to talk to Moru. I hope that she felt safe and much much loved.
We will not forget Moru, and personally I really really appreciate her sweetness, trust and being with us for nearly six years.
Sad but at least now Moru is free from pain and I hope she is popcorning, eating everything she loves with Kosson and Zelie.
Thank you Moru. We love you.
