The medals for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are made from recycled metals collected from electronic devices (cellphones, laptops, handheld games, and cameras).
The medals were designed by Junichi Kawanishi and the design concept is said to be the shine that we can find from polishing rough gemstones.
On the frontside is Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, and Olympic five rings symbol, and on the other side is the Tokyo 2020 olympics emblem.
The ribbon is inspired from traditional Japanese chequered design called “Ichimatsu pattern”.
