Mai Kuraki
Birthday:1982.10.28 Bloodtype:B
Mai Kuraki first started taking interest in western music when she saw a movie about Michael Jackson. She was impressed by his story and singing, and the fact he's been doing it from the time he was a little boy all the way to present day... and of course his amazing ability to express music and rythm with his body. Soon after that she saw a "Whitney Houston Live" video and started to idolize her and other singers.
From around her second year of middle school she started think more strongly about being a singer and began making demo tapes. While still a high school student, she met the staff of her current record label, GIZA studio, and began working towards her debut. She recorded at Boston's Cybersound studio, who to this day continues to collaborate on Mai
Kuraki's material, and thanks to this recording session she made her American debut at age sixteen as "Mai-K," singing the song "Baby I Like." That same year on December 8th, she made her debut in Japan as well with "Love, Day After Tomorrow."
Since then, that debut single has sold over a million copies, and her 1st album, "delicious way" has sold over 4 million to date-- the highest selling album in Japan for the year 2000. She also started her own show called "Mai-K TV" that year on December 3rd (which you can see on SKY PERFECT TV ch. 272 The MUSIC 272). On the show she talks about her musical roots and shows us her more personal side.
Her 2nd album, "Perfect Crime," which was released in 2001 has sold nearly 2 million copies to date. In the summer of this year she made her first live tour of Japan, hitting six major cities. In January of 2002 she released her English singing debut album, "Secret of my heart," in America, and soon after that made a 10 city, 14 show large-scale Arena tour of Japan averaging nearly 50,000 people per show. In October 2002, she will release her long-awaited 3rd album, "Fairy Tale," and as she approaches her 20th birthday on October 28th she looks forward to yet another tour of mid-size concert halls in Japan to promote the album. The tour will be starting on her birthday and will last nearly 8 months.
