　マザー・マリアナ・フランシスカ・デ・ヘスス・トレス・イ・ベリオコア（1563-1635）南米エクアドルの首都キトにある、スペイン王立・聖母の無原罪の御やどり修道院の修道女。聖母の無原罪の御やどり会所属。このスペイン人修道女は、１７世紀初頭、新大陸における修道院設立に尽力しました。また、未来に関する預言、特に２０世紀に関する多くの預言を託されました。

「神聖な王たるキリストの御母に捧げられた希望は、決して揺らぐことがありません。また、報いられないことは、決してありません。神の御母童貞聖マリアは、全世界を母の気づかいをもって統治されるので、わたしたちが教えられたとおり、聖母への信頼は、常に報いられます。」（１９５４年１０月１１日、聖母が女王であることを公に宣言した教皇ピオ１２世の回勅、Ad caeli Reginam）

　Mother Mariana Francisca de Jesus Torres y Berriochoa(1563-1635), a Conceptionist nun of the Royal Convent of the Immaculate Conception in Quito,Ecuador.This Spanish sister,who helped to found a convent in the New World in the eary 17th century,received many prophecies about the future,and especially about the 20th century.

　"Never has that hope wavered which was placed in the mother of the Divine King, Jesus Christ. Nor has that faith ever failed by which we are taught that Mary, the Virgin Mother of the God, reigns with a mother's solicitude over the entire world."

　彼女の厳しい訓練・犠牲・断食・祈りのすべては、手書き原稿に筆記されており、ずっと後のわれわれの時代になって明らかにされました。

　苦しみは、人を高貴にするものです。苦しみの道を歩む人は、キリストの御生涯の意味を最大限に見出すのです。もっといえば、苦しみにおいて、内的な状態が、苦しみを受けていない人には不可能なほど高く上がることを発見します。マザー・マリアナの生涯の終わりごろには、彼女は、迫害や苦しみの時代を懐かしみ、その頃のことを恋しく振り返っていました。

　１５８２年のある日、祭壇の前で祈っていると、御聖櫃が開いてキリストご自身があらわれました。ゴルゴタでお受けになった苦しみを彼女にお見せになりました。
聖母は、真珠の粒のような涙を流しておられました。マザー・マリアナは、聖母に尋ねました。

「聖母様のお悲しみは、わたしのせいですか？」

「違います。」聖母はお答えになりました。マザー・マリアナは、永遠の御父の声が次のようにおっしゃるのを聞きました。
「この罰は、２０世紀のためである。」
　マザー・マリアナは、キリストの頭上に、三本の刀があるのを見ました。
ひとつひとつにこのように書かれてありました。
「私は異端・冒とく・不道徳を罰するであろう」
聖母は続けておっしゃいました。「私の娘よ。あなたは、この時代の人々のために犠牲をささげますか？」
マザー・マリアナは答えました。
「喜んで」
　すると、すぐに刀は、苦しむキリストから取り去られて、マザー・マリアナの心の中に埋められました。マザー・マリアナは、ひどい苦しみで、倒れて死んでしまいました。

　Suffering is highly ennobling. On this road of suffering in union with Christ, man finds the fullest meaning of his life, and he discovers that frequently it is in the great sufferings of life, accepted with a supernatural disposition, that he can find a joy which the greatest pleasures do not give. Further, eh discovers in suffering an interior state that makes him capable of soaring to heights impossible for one who does not suffer. Only when man embraces great sufferings can his horizons expand to grand metaphysical and religious heights and his spirit advance to a superior state. At the end of Mother Mariana’s life when her sanctity was acknowledged in the community and convent, she would look back with nostalgia and sigh for the days of persecution and suffering.

　While the founding mothers admired Mother Mariana’s perfect observance of the rule and practice of virtue, there were other sisters who were stirred by jealousy. Mother Mariana suffered insults and persecutions from these sisters without ever trying to justify herself or protest. Only at the foot of the Tabernacle did she confide her secret sorrows to her Beloved. One day in 1582, as she was praying before the altar, she saw the Tabernacle open and Christ Himself emerged, suffering as He had at Golgotha. The Blessed Virgin, as His feet, was shedding tears of pearls. Mother Mariana asked her, “My Lady, as I to blame for this sadness?”

　“No,” she replied, “it is not you, but the criminal world.” Then as Our Lord began His Agony, she heard the voice of the Eternal Father saying, “This punishment will be fore the 20th century.” She saw three swords hanging over the head of Christ. On each was written, “I shall punish heresy, blasphemy and impurity.” With this, she was given to understand all that would take place in the present era.

　The Holy Virgin continued: “My daughter, will you sacrifice yourself for the people of this time?” Mother Mariana replied, “I am willing.” And immediately the swords moved away from the agonizing Christ and buried themselves in the heart of Mother Mariana, who fell dead through the violence of the pain.

　毎年、この聖母子像（約５フィート９インチ）は、上部聖歌隊席から主祭壇へと　聖母行列をしながらはこばれ、９日間の、一般参詣を受けることとなっている。毎年、２月２日をはさんだ９日間である。なぜなら、善き出来事の聖母（Our Lady of Good Success）の祝日は、２月２日だからである。

　近年になってからは、この聖母子像は、５月と１０月にも一般参詣を受けるために運ばれるようになっている。

　Each year, the Statue, which stands approximately 5'9''is carried in procession from the grilled upper choir to the main alter of the Church so that she may be venerated by the public for nine days before and after the feast day of Our Lady of Good Success (February 2). In more recent times, the Statue has also been brought to the church for public veneration in the months of May and October.

　神の御母は、マリアナ修道院長の願いを聞き入れ、３世紀もの不思議な沈黙の後に、彼女の名前が知られるようになると保証しました。善き出来事の聖母のご出現もまた、それまでは、記述に上ることはないであろうと。

　しかし、２０世紀、彼女が幻視し、自ら犠牲となることを願ったこの恐ろしい時代、になって、このご出現もマザー・マリアナの話も人々に知られることになるでしょうと。その時、信頼をもって「善き出来事の聖母」の御加護のもとに祈る人々に対して、「善い成功を与えるでしょう」と聖母は約束されました。

　The Mother of God assured her that her request would be heeded and that only after three centuries of mysterious silence, her name would become known. Devotion to Our Lady of Good Success would also wane, until almost no mention would be made of it.
But this devotion would resurge and Mother Mariana’s story would be known at the end of the 20th century, the terrible century she had previewed and for which she had offered herself as an expiatory victim. Then, Our Lady promised, she would give her “good success” to those who had recourse to her and fostered devotion to her under this invocation.

"A Victim for the Twentieth Century "

１８８５年、マザーマリアナの墓は、死後２７１年後に開けられました。マザーマリアナの体は、死後もまったく腐敗していないことがわかりました。

「マザーマリアナは、白い修道服をまとい、黒いベールをかぶっていました。顔は、自然な顔色を保っており、頬や唇はバラ色でした。すこし口が開いており、口の中には舌が見えました。目は閉じていましたが、目は残っていました。まつげも残っていました。耳たぶは、生き生きとしてました。髪の毛の色は、赤でした。１９０６年の修道院の改築時に、１６３５年に亡くなった彼女の石棺は開けられました。そこで、彼らは、彼女の墓の中に収められていた完全な彼女の償いの習慣や記録と共にマザー・マリアナ・デ・ヘススのまったく腐敗していない身体を見つけたのです。体全体から、百合の香りがしていました。
　他の、設立当時の修道院長達の体も腐敗していませんでした。そして、今日では、南米エクアドル国の首都キトの汚れなき御宿り修道院内の新しい埋葬場所に大切に保管されています。

"A Victim for the Twentieth Century "

　In 1885, the body of Mother Mariana was exhumed, 271 years after her death.

　Her body was found whole and incorrupt: She was wearing a white habit with a black veil. Her face retained its natural color with a rosy hue in the cheeks and lips. Through her slightly parted lips, the tongue could be seen. The eyes were closed, but preserved, as well as the eye lashes. The ears were flexible. The hair was red. In 1906, during the remodeling of the convent, the sarcophagus in which she had been buried in 1635 was reopened. They discovered the whole and incorrupt body of Mother Mariana de Jesus, complete with her habit and the articles of penance that had been placed in the tomb with her. The whole body exhaled a perfume of lilies. The bodies of the other Founding Mothers were also discovered incorrupt, and preserved today in the newly restored sepulcher of the Convent of the Immaculate Conception of Quito. Thus God preserves some of His saints who practice heroic virtue and maintain holy chastity in their earthly lives.
