ヨエル書１章

 ペトエルの子ヨエルに臨んだ主の言葉

2 老いた者よ!このことを聞きなさい!地のすべての住民よ!耳を傾けなさい!
あなたがたの時代にも、あなたがたの先祖の時代にも、このようなことがあったででしょうか。
3 あなたがたはこれを子孫達に告げ、あなたがたの子孫達はその子孫達に告げ、その子孫達はまた代々に告げなさい!
4 やしの虫が残したものは、いなごが食べ、いなごが残したものは、やまばとが食べ、やまばとが残したものは、いもむしが食べました。
5 酒に酔う者よ！目を覚まし、泣き、哭け！
すべて酒を飲む者よ！甘いぶどう酒のために、あなたの口から絶たれたからです。
その歯は獅子の歯、その顎の歯は雌獅子の歯です。
7 彼はわたしのぶどうの木を枯らし、わたしのいちじくの木を枯らし、それを裸にし、投げ捨て、その枝は白くされてしまいました。
8 若い時の夫のために、袋帯をしたおとめのように嘆きなさい！
9 主の家から食事の供え物、酒の供え物は絶たれ、祭司たちは嘆き、主の奉仕者たちも嘆きます。
10 畑は荒れ、地は嘆く、もろこしは枯れ、新しいぶどう酒は干上がり、油は衰えました。
11 夫たちよ！恥じなさい！
ぶどう園の主人達よ！麦のために嘆きなさい！
畑の収穫が滅びたので、嘆きなさい！
12 ぶどうの木は枯れ、いちじくの木は衰え、ざくろの木、やしの木、りんごの木、すべての畑の木は枯れ、人の子から喜びが絶えたからです。
13 祭司達よ！身を固め、嘆けきなさい！
祭壇の奉仕者達よ！哭け！来て一晩中、袋帯に伏せよ！
わが神の奉仕者達よ！食事の供え物と酒の供え物はあなたの神の家から絶たれたからです。
14 あなたがたは断食を聖別し、厳粛な集会を開き、長老および国のすべての住民をあなたがたの神である主の家に集め、主にむかって叫びなさい！
15 その日は悲しい、主の日は迫っている。全能者からの滅びのように来ます。
16 私達の目の前で食物は絶え、私達の神の家から喜びと楽しみが絶えたではありませんか。
17 穀物は鍬の下にしぼみ、倉は荒れ、納屋は壊れ、穀物は枯れました。
18 もろもろの獣はいかにうめき、家畜の群れは牧草がないので困惑し、羊の群れは荒れ果てています。
19 主よ！私はあなたに叫びます。
火が荒野の牧草を食い尽くし、炎が野の木々をことごとく燃え上がらせたからです。
20 野の獣もあなたにむかって叫びます。
水の流れる小川は枯れ、荒野の牧草地は火によって食い尽くされたからです。

1 ペトエルの子ヨエルにあった主のことば。
2 長老たちよ。これを聞け。この地に住む者もみな、耳を貸せ。このようなことがあなたがたの時代に、また、あなたがたの先祖の時代にあったろうか。
3 これをあなたがたの子どもたちに伝え、子どもたちはその子どもたちに、その子どもたちは後の世代に伝えよ。
4 かみつくいなごが残した物は、いなごが食い、いなごが残した物は、ばったが食い、ばったが残した物は、食い荒らすいなごが食った。
5 酔っぱらいよ。目をさまして、泣け。すべてぶどう酒を飲む者よ。泣きわめけ。甘いぶどう酒があなたがたの口から断たれたからだ。
6 一つの国民がわたしの国に攻め上った。力強く、数え切れない国民だ。その歯は雄獅子の歯、それには雄獅子のきばがある。
7 それはわたしのぶどうの木を荒れすたれさせ、わたしのいちじくの木を引き裂き、これをまる裸に引きむいて投げ倒し、その枝々を白くした。
8 若い時の夫のために、荒布をまとったおとめのように、泣き悲しめ。
9 穀物のささげ物と注ぎのぶどう酒は主の宮から断たれ、主に仕える祭司たちは喪に服する。
10 畑は荒らされ、地も喪に服する。これは穀物が荒らされ、新しいぶどう酒も干上がり、油もかれてしまうからだ。
11 農夫たちよ。恥を見よ。ぶどう作りたちよ。泣きわめけ。小麦と大麦のために。畑の刈り入れがなくなったからだ。
12 ぶどうの木は枯れ、いちじくの木はしおれ、ざくろ、なつめやし、りんご、あらゆる野の木々は枯れた。人の子孫達から喜びが消えうせた。
13 祭司たちよ。荒布をまとっていたみ悲しめ。祭壇に仕える者たちよ。泣きわめけ。神に仕える者たちよ。宮に行き、荒布をまとって夜を過ごせ。穀物のささげ物も注ぎのぶどう酒もあなたがたの神の宮から退けられたからだ。
14 断食の布告をし、きよめの集会のふれを出せ。長老たちとこの国に住むすべての者を、あなたがたの神、主の宮に集め、主に向かって叫べ。
15 ああ、その日よ。主の日は近い。全能者からの破壊のように、その日が来る。
16 私たちの目の前で食物が断たれたではないか。私たちの神の宮から喜びも楽しみも消えうせたではないか。
17 穀物の種は土くれの下に干からび、倉は荒れすたれ、穴倉はこわされた。穀物がしなびたからだ。
18 ああ、なんと、家畜がうめいていることよ。牛の群れはさまよう。それに牧場がないからだ。羊の群れも滅びる。
19 主よ。私はあなたに呼び求めます。火が荒野の牧草地を焼き尽くし、炎が野のすべての木をなめ尽くしました。
20 野の獣も、あなたにあえぎ求めています。水の流れがかれ、火が荒野の牧草地を焼き尽くしたからです。

1 The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?
3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
4 That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep, and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.
6 For a people is come up upon my land, mighty, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness.
7 He hath laid my vine waste, and blasted my fig-tree; he hath made it clean bare, and cast it down, the branches thereof are made white.
8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9 The meal-offering and the drink-offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests mourn, even the LORD'S ministers.
10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
11 Be ashamed, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
12 The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered; for joy is withered away from the sons of men. 
13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests, wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God; for the meal-offering and the drink-offering is withholden from the house of your God.
14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD.
15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 The grains shrivel under their hoes; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
19 Unto Thee, O LORD, do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath set ablaze all the trees of the field.
20 Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto Thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
