1868 Meiji era started with democracy.

Japanese leaders went to abroad, Europ、America by steam boat.
Yukichi Fukuzawa, you can see his face on 10000 yen bill, was center of the leadership.
He brought dictionaries and books to Japanese an
first publisheEnglish Japanese dictionary.
He also is a founder of Keio University in Tokyo taking a role of economics.

ギフトのバスケットには西洋の香りがする、
瓶詰めのインスタントコーヒーやチョコレートの詰め合わせ。
若者たちはハローウィン、サンクスギビングデー、クリスマスの
パーティー衣装の準備にいとまなく
北ヨーロッパから暖を求めやって来る観光客への商戦もたけなわです。
さて、教室の生徒さんたちに投げかけられた冒頭の質問に
何の書物を紹介しようか？
やや古典的すぎる感はありますが
「菊と刀」
「武士道」でしょうか。
そして大学時代に教育原理、心理でお世話になった
上林喜久子先生から頂戴した「後世への最大遺物」内村鑑三講演集
ぽっかりと浮かんだ白い雲に、東京オリンピックの開会式の映像を想い
毛布、シーツ、カバー類の洗濯をしながら
先人に感謝し、多くの師を慕い、
書物を紐解きに
日曜日の教会に出かけます。
皆様の素敵な秋の休日を祈りつつ
