単語が先か？定義文が先か？

　前回「例文を読ませてから英語による単語の定義を選ばせるセンター試験の新傾向英語問題と、単語の定義を英語で読ませてから単語を含んだ例文を選ばせるenglishxenglishは、順序が逆になっているだけで発想は共通しています」と申し上げました。しかし、英英辞典を利用した問題演習にあたって「単語が先か？定義文が先か？」というのは重要な問題です。
　ためしに今年のセンター試験で出題されたpoachという単語を含む四択問題をロングマンオンラインから二種類作成してみましょう。

◆①～④の定義文をA～Dの単語と合わせてください。

　to illegally catch or shoot animals, birds, or fish, especially on private land without permissionという定義文を読んで、鳥獣や魚を違法にゲットしている絵を描ければしめたものです。これに対して◇では、poachという単語の「密漁する」という日本語の意味を知っていればどうしても日本語先行の英語学習になり、英語思考力の効率的養成は難しくなります。
