       エイズと人権 劇で学ぶ
December Ist was World AIDS Day, and December 10th was
Human Rights Day.
What kind of disease is AIDS? What are human rights?
Children at Omiya Elementary School and Nago Elementary
School, both in Nago City, watched a play to learn about
these two topics, which are closely related.
The play showed scenes of bullying.
Everyone thought about the importance of accepting
each other's differences rather denying them.

An exhibition of pictures, which depict images of pease
and war and were drawn by children from Vietnam in Okinawa,
will be held at the Okinawa Prefectural Museum in Naha city
from December 20th to 25th.
Admission is free.
There was a tragic war in Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s
as well as in Okinawa in 1945, and many people died during
these wars.
100 works will be on display that picture what children
learned about these events at school and what they heard
from their grandpas and grandmas.
Warabi asked Takashi Kamata, Vice-Chair of the Executive
Committee, about the purpose behind this picture exhibition
and the pictures displayed.

Thirty-three traditional festinals from across Japan

They all feature parades with gorgeous floats called yama,

       お札 突然使えなくなった
In India, a type of paper money, which people had
regularly used, was suddenly taken out of circulation,
creating confusion.
Travel writer Yuji Shimokawa, who was in India at that
time, told us about his experience.
In Okinawa also during the reversion to Japan in 1972,
the money that people used changed from dollars to yen.
Whenever a currency changes, it really is a big deal,
isn't it?
