After the re-organization of the religion in the 1920s, the primary focus of KKK shifted to peace keeping and defense against the black (Rhomberg, 42). The reason it got expanded was the general fear among the white people, that the newly independent black was a threat to their safety. Forces of the government, as KKK believed, were not adequate to keep the black people settled without harming the interests of the white. Therefore, violence was encouraged as a form of intimidation and terror. A nostalgic sense is increasingly observed in KKK members, as they are more and more discontent about the reality. This explains why they are anti-change and always trying to restore the traditional way of life. Entering the 21st century, the religion has been broken into different fractions. Purist Klan remains traditional and even violent sometimes, while Moderate Klan is only actively engaged in the political field. With the division, the beliefs of different factions of KKK have been largely dispersed in recent years.

For an outsider, the most distinguished feature of early KKK is probably the rituals and practices of its members. To join the Klan, a new member must take an oath that states their commitment and beliefs. Emotional isolation

Improper social network use can be connected to the emotional isolation for many college students. Being emotional vulnerable, they find it more difficult to adapt to the real life in college. For a number active social network college users, they are partial to online communication to a large extent, which is almost opposite to their real life preferences. Being withdrawn in real life, they are reluctant to communicate with others face to face, showing a disgusting attitude to those flattering interpersonal exchanges and activities. When these college students engage in social network, they can keep good interactions with online friends in good mood. In contrast, they will become depressed as falling into abyss once the social network is not available. This emotional ups ad downs gradually lead to vulnerable characteristics in their real life identities. Accordingly, they become more than resistant to deal with interpersonal relationships with surrounding people in real lives, with the friendship fade and narrow communication.

Interpersonal Indifference

Social network provides users an online platform for easy communication, most of whom belong to the weak tie. The weak ties mean the weak relationship among online users. The virtual relationships carry some unknown factors and uncertain elements, making the audience in the state of pluralistic ignorance. Further, these users are vulnerable to develop a differentiated responsibility and slowing reaction in their emotional levels, which eventually turn to the community indifference on social network platforms. Taking the Aurora shooting, Denver, America for instance, there was large scale spreading information relevant to this incident on Facebook shortly after it happened in July, 2012. However, the following “share” “likes” and “comments” show the indifferent attitudes from Facebook users. This incident can only prove two things, one is the community indifference, and the other is that no grief for the shooting itself. The strong information diffusion advantage of social network suddenly turns to the spent force when touching the users’ emotional field.

More similar situations happen like the Aurora shooting. Online users just feel easy and elegant in a state of pluralistic ignorance. With the weak ties with others, online users think there is no necessity to give emotional concerns, they just follow others to behave themselves. In face of the emergencies, the community effect can be misleading, thus the online onlookers just follow the community indifference and show their indifferent attitudes with no responsibilities at all. It is hard to predict what the real society will be like considering the growing interpersonal indifference from social network.

Reflection and Suggestions

College students are able to get their desired knowledge, information and psychological needs by using social networks, However, faced with the network weaknesses and some potential risks, it is suggested the college students should make adjustments to avoid social network disadvantages.

Self-control matters a lot for using social network. Based some researches studying the relationship between network frequency and daily behavior, students need to improve their self-control abilities, in case of over dependency on online communication. While being engaged in online communication, students need to become active in real interpersonal interaction. Thus they can reach a unifying identity both online and in real life. Then, college students need to follow the network ethics and regulate personal behaviors. With the loss of effective laws and regulations on network violence and disputes, college students need to apply with real life ethics and rules. When an incident happens, they can prevent themselves from spreading rumors or making indifferent comments. The universities and colleges can also set some courses for guiding students how to use social network rationally (Bo).In this way, they are making efforts to build a harmonious online environment for all users. Above all, college students are able to improve their courage and ability to deal with difficulties. It is common to suffer from emotional isolation, to meet with interpersonal difference and to realize the weak interpersonal skills. When having these problems, students need to develop a rational attitude and find out solution rather than feel being disturbed. So, they can motivate themselves to struggle for better.

Conclusion

To follow the internet tendency, it is reasonable for college students to be actively involved in social network. When considering the interpersonal communication effects, the social network should be highlighted with its both positive and negative effects. From this research, it can be seen that many college students have met with communication problem, experiencing the developing and improving psychological period. The network itself has no absolutely right or wrong, the determining factor lies in the college students. How the college students make use of network would produce different effects. On the analysis above, under the proper guidance from college and society, college students need to improve rational awareness while using social network, and strengthening their real life interpersonal skills. Thus they can benefit more from social network.

Industrial pollution can cause many problems. First it affects life span even may cause wildlife extinction. Most industries require amounts of water for their work. The water can release industrial accidents like heavy metals, organic toxins, oils, and solids. I think these pollutants can have a higher impact on decreasing life span in a shorter time. And also this problem causes wildlife extinction because their habitats are being lost. Second it will cause air pollution. With the rise of the industrial pollution, global warming has been increased too, because smoke and greenhouse gas are released in the air. So I think the industrial pollution will also cause air pollution. Third industrial pollution will also cause water pollution too. According to the article “groundwater pollution”, industrial waste from a factory down the road, or other ways, can cause pollution to the aquifer. Many wells currently in use are contaminated. In Florida, for example, more than 90% of wells have been closed because of pollution. (Desonie, 2016,pg. 2)

Another source of pollution is plastic pollution. For more than 50 years, global production and consumption of plastics have continued to rise. (Claire Le Guern Lytle, 2017) First plastic pollution contaminates the ocean. Plastic makes up about 80 percent of the trash in some parts of the ocean. While some types of ocean trash break down quickly, but other types, like plastic, can last hundreds of years. A sick sea turtle was brought to a hospital for a check-up. X-rays showed that it has swallowed pieces of plastic trash. If animals become tangled in large pieces of trash, they would die if not timely treated. (Earth science, plastic problem. 2015) Second in my opinion, plastic pollution is not just harmful to ocean animals, but it also destroys our ecosystem. If one specific ocean animal extinct because of the pollution, we will not see this species again. Another big problem is that it will affect food chain. If people or other animals eat the polluted animal, it will make people sick too, so as the other animals. Plastic pollution contaminates landscape. Discarded plastic products are everywhere. No wonder it is also called “white pollution”. In my mind, it damages the landscape and shows the poor quality of a city. According to earth science, many pieces drift into swirling ocean currents. I think the effects of industrial pollution and plastic pollution are severe and should be concerned. They both could damage our ecosystem. In order to help our environment, administration should according to law and regulation increase the economic punishment and compensation of the enterprises. We as ordinary citizens can also help decreasing the plastic pollution by a small action of picking up after ourselves and other people.
