Nokogiriyama literally means “saw mountain” has serrated ridge, like the teeth of a saw. The extraordinary shape of the mountain was attributed to 起因するits quarrying history – it used to be a production area for stones used in construction during the Edo Period. People worked hard to build the biggest city of Japan, but there was only marshy land, so solid rocks were necessary to create a strong foundation for the buildings of Edo. The stone cutting activity ended in the 1970’s. The abandoned tuff quarry has become a tourist site. 

石は凝灰岩質であり、堆積岩の中では硬いが、石材としては比較的やわらかい部類で、風化されやすく、立派な石造大仏も風化が進んだため現在の大仏は比較的近年の作のようであり、見事である。





山の標高は329.4mであり、日本寺の広い境内になる。日本寺は、725年に聖武天皇の勅詔により行基によって開山されたというので奈良の大仏と通じるものがある。大仏は薬師瑠璃光如来の大仏で、31.0mの高さの石仏である。





ロープウェイの竣工は1962年であり、半世紀をこえた。今、アクアラインの開通もあり、多くの観光客で賑わいをみせている。

 

対象的なのは、新幹線からも高速道路も充実せず、陸の孤島、鳥取市である。日本最大の美しい砂丘が知名度を誇る都市である。1969年（昭和44年）に久松山（通称：鳥取城 標高263ｍ）ー山麓から山頂までの約600mを4分で結んでいたロープウェイが開業するも、開業期間は約5年であった。やがて、鳥取市は国内観光の主流からは取り残されてしまった。現在でもその遺構は残されている。

Izumi Ward in Yokohama, Tsuzuki Ward, Aoba Ward, and Midori Ward have a lot of farmland.

横浜市鶴見区仲通２丁目には、昭和30年代の面影を残すタバコ屋がある。There were tobacco kiosks in almost every corner. Now small kiosks and tobacco stores are disappearing from city centers. Still this tobacco shop is in business, wholly devoted to it.
