Do you know what the ozone layer is?
It spreads out very high in the sky, encircling the earth.
It absorbs harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun and protects
life on earth.
Every week, the Okinawa Regional Headquarters of the Japan
Meteorological Agency (JMA) sends a balloon up into the sky
over Naha city to measure the amount of ozone.
We asked a representative of the JMA to tell us about the
ozone layer's function and the way it is observed.
