They also contain trans fats, which increase bad cholesterol and raise risks for heart disease and diabetes. Processed Meats: These often contain preservatives like sodium nitrite, which are linked to cancer. Burnt Foods: The char on foods like meats and vegetables can contain carcinogens such as acrylamide and heterocyclic amines.

Little was known about the man in Shinjuku who is wearing a tiger’s mask and riding a bike in the superman position on it.  I first met him in the noise and bustle of Shinjuku 40 years ago. I was very surprised to see him wearing mask and weaving his way through a crowd riding his bike in the superman position on it, carrying a music player on a loud volume. He was still in Shinjuku. Now he’s become a living legend of Shinjuku.

大学を卒業して東京を離れてもう40年近く経つ、その人はまだ新宿にいた‼︎ よくよく観察すると新聞配達をしている。歳をとっているはずだが、外見はあの時と全く変わっていない。顔には虎のお面をつけている。全くぶれずに新聞配達とこの異形を38年以上続けていたのか！どんな人なのだろう。昔は気味が悪く、音楽をかけながら、飛行機乗りで、自転車に乗っているので完全にぶっ飛んでいる人だと思っていた。現在みると懐かしさがこみ上げ、また、実直に働き続けた人だということ、またあの格好でも働く職場、受け入れているこの社会の寛容さにも嬉しさを覚えて、良い気分になれた。行け行けタイガー、タイガー、新宿タイガー！

I always make sure to buy this confection whenever I go to Nabari. It is said to be the hardest confection in Japan. It is called "Kata-yaki", and as the name suggests, it is extremely hard. As you know, Mie Prefecture is the home of ninjas, so this food item originated as a ninja's travel ration. Kata-yaki was ideal for ninjas because it was lightweight, non-perishable, and provided sustenance during long missions. It is a type of hard-baked rice cracker that dates back hundreds of years. It has a long shelf life and is highly nutritious. Katayaki is quite hard and solid, so one must be careful not to chip their teeth while eating it.
