Gngoatの話題です。ちょっと分かりづらいのですが、写真のような「縄のれん」が、橋をくぐるときや、トンネルの入り口の前に設けられているそうです。屋根の上にいるブレーキマン等に、橋やトンネルの接近を知らせるものとのことです。

この縄のれん、アメリカの鉄道独特な物なのでしょうか。確かに高さ制限のある所に良く見かけますし、アメリカのレイアウトにも多く再現されています。
この効能は、今回ご紹介されているような物だとは想像していましたが、確証が持てました。情報ありがとうございます。
この他にもGNやSPで良く見かけますが、機関車の屋根上にツララ切りなる突起が備わっていますね。極寒の地を走る対策として考えられた物だと思いますが、この縄のれんと共にアメリカ人独特の大胆な発想ぶりを感じてしまいました。
