今年も今日からメリーモナークが始まった。
メリーモナークはハワイのフラのコンテストです。

どうやってもちっこい画面しかでなくてちっこい画面のまま見てる。
有名なハラウ（お教室）がでると途端に映像がとぎれとぎれにもなる。
そして、そこが終わると急に軽くなってスムーズな映像に戻るの。
でも毎年オンタイムで見たくて見てしまうのよね。
なんでかな？
どうせ、あとでＤＶＤ買うんだから無理して見なくてもいいんだけど。
私の中では春の行事の１つなのよね。
今日から３日間。
スケジュール的に３日間全部見られることはまずないけどね。
From today, the Merry Monarch has started. Every spring, I watch this festival from the web page of a Hawaiian channel. I like the Merry Monarch festival. It is very interesting. You can see the real part of Hula. If you are learning hula for a long time, ever since you were little, you would want to have the title of Miss Aloha Hula in Hawai’i. A dancer will walk onto the huge stage by herself, and dance by herself. They have to tell the stories with using all their bodies. And I think probably she can see from stage all her history through her family, and she can think about her halau, kumu, the time she spent for hula, the things which she was dedicated to, and so on. The costume and choreography are usually carefully chosen to match the mele. Behind the dancers, you can see her kumu. If kumu and dancer faced the same right direction, the dancer looks blossomed and beautiful. You feel like you are sharing the time with them. Then, usually that is the kind of dancer who can have the prize of Miss Aloha Hula. I like hula, you can see a lot of things behind dancers. I don’t know any other dance like that. I wondered and I’m scared about what you can see behind me.
A lot of people think that only young girl’s hula is beautiful, but it is not true. Older ladies show us something we have to remember, strength, kindness, unconditional love. I like kupuna’s hula more than young people’s ‘just dance’. In my ex-hula class, there was a lady, she is over 60. But she dances so innocent and beautifully. If I choose the colour for her, that must be a pure white. I can’t dance like her. She went over hard times again and again in her past. She knows what is important in her life, or not. I really like her hula. And she was the person who could understand me a lot, and push me out of my ex-halau.
