Shōsei-en is a garden that belongs to Higashi-Hongan-ji. It is a truly delightful stroll garden just 12
minutes walk from Kyoto Station. You can see the Kyoto tower in the distance from the garden.
Higashi Honganji is an enclave precinct, and the admission fee is 500 yen. As a resident of Okayama, I can’t help but compare it to Korakuen, one of Japan’s three great gardens, but it truly holds its own. Of course, it doesn’t feature borrowed scenery, but the Kyoto Tower blending into the background is absolutely delightful! The winter sky adds a refreshing touch, making it a wonderful place for a stroll.
