48-hour BVG strike: no buses, no trams, no U-Bahn
The negotiations between Berlin’s public transport provider, the BVG, and the Verdi union have been dragging on all year – but things are coming to a head. The dispute over wages remains unresolved, and BVG workers will walk out this Wednesday and Thursday. The strike began at 03:00 on Wednesday morning and will continue until 03:00 on Friday.
The BVG operates all buses, ferries, trams, and U-Bahns in the city. However, the S-Bahn, which is operated by Deutsche Bahn, remains in service.
Negotiations appear tense- this marks the fourth BVG strike this year. Further talks are scheduled to take place between the Verdi union and the public transport provider on Friday, immediately following this action. If no agreement is reached, Verdi has threatened to call a vote among its workers on an open-ended strike, which could paralyse the city’s transport indefinitely.
