Today, I completed final shaping of my spatulas. Next photo shows them seperated from the original block cut lines, just before they were further cut to their planar outline.
Inserts are darker coloured agathis. I like agathis very much, but in the near future I may be opting for more exotic materials from Borneo for cost reasons. I was actually very pleased to find a number of very large agathis and other forests down there.
Below is just before they were rounded along the edges. With this photo I am sure you can see that they are still rather edgy and rectangular along the edges.
Hole edges were also rounded for perfection. Rounded and coated partially, they are shown below.
Immersion coating only partially applied at this stage as I wish to ask this lady who ordered for these if she also wants the whole surface coating. Some people do prefer natural staining of contact surfaces. I have no particular preference and will be happy to be guided accordingly...
In the meantime some of my new generation hashies are undergoing whole surface coating as you see down below.
These are all walnut hashies, but I must admit that some are too light coloured (to my liking at least) . They have all been decorated with lighter coloured inserts in contrast to spatulas already shown above.
It will take another 10 days before they go mat and be ready to be of service. I might actually take one pair to Borneo for my own use. Why not indeed?
Where would I want to go from here?
I may be going for more decorative small spoons, tea spoons, I think. I have already bought a new cutting tool for the purpose. I only wish I would have time for that before moving to Borneo...
A lo menos una para ella? Vamos a ver...
