『待つわ』⑩
月夜の裏庭でリラの薫りに包まれてキスを交わしたジーンとデイック。ジーンの家の裏口で二人は別れた。
⑩ジーンは入り口の窓ガラスに額を当てて思っていた、「凄く素敵だったわ。とっても凄く素敵だったわ・・・」彼女は深く息をついて、まるで夢遊病者みたいな感じで階段をよじ上って、台所のドアを開けた。
電燈の眩しい光にぎょっと驚いて、彼女の目はそれに抗（あらが）ってぱちくりした。彼女の母親とお隣のキングさんが台所のテーブルでコーヒーを飲んでいた。ジーンは一瞬、後ろの物陰に身を隠そうと思ったのだが、二人に向かって笑顔をつくった。（続く）

the shock of the electric light's glare startled her and her eyes blinked in protest. Her mother and Mrs. King from next door sat at the kitchen table drinking coffee. Jean wanted to draw back into the protective shadow behind her but she smiled at them both.
