Germany: Berlin restaurants and cafes reopen terraces as COVID restrix eased
2021/5/22
Berliners were finally permitted to sit outdoors at cafes and restaurants in the German capital on Friday, after months of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. "It's a great liberation to be allowed to open up again. In the past few days the preparation has been really hectic but also motivating," said Rene Handke, manager of the Erdinger restaurant at Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt. Local cafes, bars, and restaurants were permitted to re-open outdoor areas, provided certain health and safety guidelines were followed. Those wishing to be seated had to provide either the results from a rapid test, proof of full vaccination, or proof that they recovered from Coronavirus within the last six months. "I think the conditions are reasonable, so that's why one can go for food without worry. We got tested before," said local Alexander. "The good weather absolutely suits eating outdoors, and it's piece of quality of life that's come back," he added.
