方便品第二（その２４）

虚妄な法に深く執着する
Deeply attached to false doctrines
固く受け取り、捨てることができない
Firmly hold on and cannot let go
慢心し自らを誇り高ぶる
Arrogantly pride themselves
おもねり、心が不実である
Flattering and insincere heart
千万億劫（長い時間）の間に
Over countless kalpas
仏の名前を聞かない
Never hear the Buddha’s name
また正しい法を聞かない
Nor do they hear the true Dharma
このような人は救いがたい
Such people are hard to save
これがゆえに、舎利弗よ
Therefore, Shariputra
私は方便を設けた
I established skillful means
諸々の苦しみを尽くす道を説き
Preach the path to the end of suffering
涅槃によってこれを示す
Show them Nirvana
私は涅槃を説くといえども
Although I preach Nirvana
これはまた真の滅ではない
This is not true extinction
諸々の法は本来から
All dharmas, from the very beginning
常に自ら静寂にして滅の相である
Always possess the aspect of tranquility

方便品第二（その２３）

私は荘厳な相をもって身を飾る
I adorn my body with noble features
光明が世間を照らす
The radiant light illuminates the world
計り知れないほどの衆生に尊ばれる
Honored by countless beings
真実の相の証印（本質）を説き示す
Preach the seal of ultimate reality
舎利弗よ、まさに知るべきである
Shariputra, you should know
私は本来の誓願を立てる
I originally made a vow
一切の衆生を～させたい
I wish to enable all beings
私と等しく違いがないように
Just like me, without difference
私が昔、願ったように
Just as I vowed in the past
今、すでに満足した
Now it is already fulfilled
一切の衆生を教化して
Teach and transform all sentient beings
すべて仏道に入らせる
Let all enter the Buddha’s path
もし私が衆生に出会うなら
If I encounter sentient beings
すべてを仏道によって教える
Teach everything through the Buddha’s path
無智の者は錯乱する
The ignorant are confused
迷い惑って教えを受けない
Confused, they refuse the teachings


私はこの衆生を知っている
I know these sentient beings
いまだかつて善の根本を修行していない
Have never cultivated the root of goodness
五欲にかたく執着する
Firmly attached to the five desires
無知と愛着のために苦しみが生じる
Due to ignorance and attachment, suffering arises
諸々の欲望の因縁によって
Due to the causes and conditions of desires
三つの悪道に墜ちる
Fall into the three evil paths
六趣の輪廻の中にいる
Within the cycle of the six realms
諸々の苦しみと毒を受ける
Suffer all forms of pain and poison
胎内の微細な形を受ける
Receive a subtle form in the womb
世々において常に増長する
Continually grow in every life
徳が薄く、福が少ない人
A person with little virtue and fortune
衆生の苦しみに迫られる
Oppressed by numerous sufferings
邪な見解の密林に入る
Enter the dense forest of wrong views
もしあるなら、もしないならなど
Whether it exists or not, etc.
これらの諸見に依り留まる
Rely and abide in these various views
六十二の見解を具えだす
Possessing all sixty-two views

方便品第二（その２２）

声聞や菩薩が
Śrāvakas or Bodhisattvas
私の説く法を聞くこと
Hear the Dharma that I preach
一つの偈（詩句）すらに至るまでなら
Even down to a single verse
すべての者が仏となることに疑いなし
All will attain Buddhahood without doubt
十方の仏国土の中には
In all the Buddha lands of the ten directions
ただ一つの乗り物（仏法）のみある
There is only one vehicle (teaching)
二もなく、また三もない
Neither two nor three exist
仏が方便として説くことを除いて
Except for the skillful means of the Buddha
ただ仮の名前によって
Only by using temporary names
衆生を導くことにおいて
Lead and guide sentient beings
仏の智慧を説くため
To preach the Buddha’s wisdom
諸々の仏が世に現れる
All Buddhas appear in the world
ただこれ一つの事が真実
Only this one thing is true
その余の二つは則ち真実ではない
The other two are not true
絶対に小乗によらずに
Never rely on the small vehicle
衆生を済度する
Deliver and save sentient beings


仏は自ら大乗に住する
The Buddha abides in the Mahayana
その得た法のとおり
According to the Dharma obtained
禅定と智慧の力で荘厳する
Adorned with the power of meditation and wisdom
これによって衆生を渡す
Save sentient beings with this
自ら無上の道を証悟する
Attain supreme enlightenment oneself
大乗の平等な法
The Mahayana’s equal Dharma
もし小乗によって教化するなら
If one teaches using the Small Vehicle
たとえ一人に対してであっても
Even to a single person
私はすなわち慳貪に堕ちる
I would then fall into miserliness
このことは許されない
This matter is unacceptable
もし人が仏を信じ帰依するなら
If a person has faith and takes refuge in the Buddha
如来を決して欺かない
Never deceive the Tathagata
また貪る心やねたむ心もない
Nor does he have greed or jealousy
すべての法の中の悪を断つ
Cut off the evil within all Dharmas
そのために仏は十方において
Therefore, the Buddha in the ten directions
そしてただ一人、恐れるものがない
And he alone is fearless

方便品第二（その２１）

理解力が鈍く、小さな法を楽しむ
Those with dull faculties enjoy small teachings
生死に執着する
Clinging to birth and death
諸々の無量の仏に対して
In relation to the countless Buddhas
深く微妙な道を行わず
Not practicing the profound path
衆生の苦しみに悩まされ乱される
Distressed and disturbed by suffering
これのために涅槃を説く
Preach Nirvana for this reason
私はこれを方便として設ける
I establish this as a skillful means
仏の智慧に入らせる
Enable them to enter Buddha’s wisdom
まだあなたたちに説いたことがない
I have never preached to you before
まさに仏道を成すべきと
You will certainly attain Buddhahood
今まで説いてこなかった理由は
This is why I have never preached it
説く時にまだ至っていなかったため
The time to preach had not yet come
今こそまさにその時である
Now is exactly the right time
確定的に大乗（真実のまま）を説く
I will decisively preach the Mahayana
私のこの九部の教え
These nine divisions of my teaching
衆生に応じて説く
Preaching according to beings’ capacities


大乗に入るにはこれが基本である
Entering the Mahayana as the foundation
その理由によってこの経を説く
Therefore, I preach this sutra
仏の子（弟子）で、心が清らかである
There are Buddha’s disciples with pure hearts
柔軟であり、また利根である
Gentle and also keen-witted
無量の諸仏のいる場所
The place of countless Buddhas
そこで深い微妙な道を行う
And they practice the profound path
これらの仏子（弟子）のために
For these disciples of the Buddha
この大乗経典を説く
Preach this Mahayana sutra
私はこのような人を記録する
I record such people
来世において仏道を成すと
In the next life, they attain Buddhahood
深い心で仏を念じる
With deep mind, they contemplate the Buddha
清らかな戒律を修行し保つため
For upholding and practicing pure precepts
これらの者は仏を得ると聞いて
These people hear and attain the Buddha’s teachings
大きな喜びが全身に満ちる
Great joy fills their entire being
仏は彼の心と行いを知る
The Buddha knows their heart and actions
これがために大乗を説く
Therefore, preach the Mahayana

方便品第二（その２０）

そして偈（詩句）を説いて言った
And expounded in verse, saying
比丘（僧侶）と比丘尼（尼僧）
Monks and nuns
増上慢（慢心、傲慢）を抱いている
Harboring arrogance
優婆塞（在家の男性信者）で傲慢な者
Arrogant laymen
優婆夷（在家の女性信者）で信じない者
Disbelieving laywomen
このような四衆たち
Such four kinds of people
その数は五千である
Their number is five thousand
自分の過ちを見ない
Do not see their own faults
戒律に欠け漏れがある
There are deficiencies in discipline
その欠点をかばい惜しむ
Protect and cherish their flaws
これは小さな知恵であり、すでに出た
These are small intellects that have left
衆生の中のかす（取るに足らない者）
The dregs among the assembly
仏の威徳のために去る
They leave due to the Buddha's virtue
この人は福徳が少ない
These people have little merit
この法を受けるに堪えない
Unable to receive this Dharma
この衆生には枝葉がない
These people have no unnecessary parts
ただ諸々の誠実だけがある
Only those who are truly sincere


舎利弗よ、よく聞きなさい
Shariputra, listen well
諸々の仏が得た法
The Dharma attained by all Buddhas
計り知れない方便の力
The infinite power of skillful means
そして衆生のために説く
And thus preach for all beings
衆生の心にある思い
The thoughts in the minds of beings
さまざまな行いの道
The various paths of conduct
さまざまな欲の性質
The various natures of desires
過去世の善悪の行い
Good and bad karma from past lives
仏はすべてこれをすでに知っている
The Buddha already knows all this
諸々の縁と例え、～を用いて
Using all conditions and metaphors
言葉と方便の力
The power of words and skillful means
すべての衆生を歓喜させる
Make all beings joyful
あるいは修多羅（修行の多い経典）を説く
Sometimes preaching the Sutras
伽陀（詩偈）と本事（本来の事柄）を説く
Preaching Gathas and origin stories
かつてなかった本生（本来の生まれ）
Never before happened birth stories
また因縁、～について説く
Also preaching about causes and conditions
例え話と祇夜をあわせて
Teaching parables and Geya verses
優波提舍の経典
Upadesha scriptures
