「個展」を考える １ Thinking about the exhibit (1)

ようやく落ち着いてきましたので
今日から数回に渡って「個展」について
考えてみようと思います。

最初に銀座で個展を開いた時の私の意気込み・期待感は
相当なものでした。　なにせ　天下の銀座ですから.....

画廊企画でやってもらう程の力量なぞない若造でしたので
もちろん自費です。（２３歳頃）

しかし来てくれたのは　版画仲間の友人が数人
親と親戚が数人　フリーの人が数人........
１日４~５人という日もありました。

夢見た雑誌・新聞に取り上げられることもなく
ただ「個展をしました」という事だけで
反響と効果などまったくありませんでした。

When I held an exhibit at Ginza for the first time,
my enthusiasm and expectation were considerable… at “THE Ginza”…
I was 23years of age.
It was natural that no gallery would produce a show for such a greenhorn.
So, I had to do all at my own expense.
The visitors were several fellow Hanga students, friends, relatives
and several gallery goers.
Sometimes I had only four to five people a day.

The show was not featured in the newspapers or magazines, of course.
There was no response to it at all; therefore it didn’t bring about
the desired effect.

There was just a fact that I held a show left.
