Students from class B

We thought about the sound as with class A.

What sound do we hear when steadily hitting the desk?

 “Teacher, it’s a bang sound!”

The students say.

There are lots of different representations.

In the activity,

“Is this the sound we hear?”

As they listened.

There are lots of things to think about with the shape and orientation of the flowers, and then also thinking about colour.

。You need to wipe the glue away carefully when you finish.  You can see the glue shining where there is too much glue.

People looked for reflections of the sunlight and strip lights to see it.

The work needs a title.

Some people thought of their title at the start, others thought of new titles.

We did an exchange and appreciation activity.

 “Ohh, Beautiful!”

I could hear from all over the classroom.

Students were looking at all the different work.

It was good to hear people talking about their work.

Students from class A.

We worked with 3 points of focus.

1) It feels good to touch.

2) It sounds nice.

3) It has a good sound.

Elements 1 and 3 we looked at last lesson, but today we will think more about the sound (3).

We carefully thought about the sound as we made our piece, rat-a-tat, splash, crunch, crinkle, there are lots of sounds we noticed.

I wanted the work to represent the sounds they heard, using twists and other forms.

We rubbed off extra glue from the work.

It is important to wipe the glue off carefully.

It will make the finished work much better to do this.

Some people have found a new way to peel the glue off after it sticks!

After we finish we had an exchange and appreciation activity.

This time, rather than looking alone they looked at the work in groups.

Rather than fixed groups these groups could move around to see different work.

When they got to a piece of work they could share their ideas.

Some people looked and touched, thinking about the three focus points.

“Teacher, this piece is really beautiful!”

Someone called over. I also thought it was a very nice piece of work.

It is important to try to write and say our opinions in exchange activities.

The teacher reads a newspaper. (Grade 1) part 2

Work from class A.

Ms. AS’s work.

You can see the big newspaper opened very wide to read it.

I really like the form of the newspaper.

We can get an idea about feelings by looking at small details, like the facial expression, the eyes, and the tilt of the head.

It looks like he is really concentrating!

Ms. SF’s work.

We can see lots of detail in the background behind Mr. Y.

If you look at the newspaper’s back page it looks like there is a sketch, all of this has been from the imagination of the artist.

It’s good to see people love to draw.

Ms. SS’s work.

The way the nose has been drawn is unique and interesting.

There is a nice use of lines to show details, like in the shoes with lots of fine detail.

 Students from Class A.

We will make some flowers.

First I explain about paper flowers.

 “It’s all fluffy!”

“It’s so soft!”

It was nice to feel the tissue paper.

It’s like Mary’s veil!”

“It’s like a cloud!”

Students observed.

 “It makes a rustling noise!”

“It can feel quite rough!”

Students described as they felt it.

We stuck the tissue paper down with glue mixed with water.

You wipe off any extra glue using a towel and then choose the next colour.

Everyone is working happily.

Some people used new techniques to make their flower.

Students from class B.

 “So many different coloured flowers!”

Someone said with surprise.

There are 18 different colours!

Pick the colour you like and start to work from there.

Each student chose their colour.

Some people used all different colours, some people had a system for their colours like ‘Bright colours’.

There was someone who used it with a twist.

“The more I twist it the darker it gets”.

“I can make the colour even darker”.

The same idea, but different ways to make it darker.

“Hey, teacher! It is like a chameleon!”

A chameleon? Because it is full of different colours? I went to see and…

“Oh. It really does look like a chameleon!”

 I gasped in surprise!

You can make the paper round to make the flowers.

I saw the ingenuity in different colours and shapes.

People took time to show different techniques they liked.

 “Which do you like?”

“This one”

People said in little meetings.

The activity time will be finished soon. IT’s time to get working and finish!

 “Oh Wow, I’m hungry!”

Were the last words I heard as the students left the room.
