People were looking forward to putting on the outside glaze.

 Let’s do it!

I’ve been trying to keep everyone focused.

 “Aaa, I put it where I didn’t want any…””

“What should I do, teacher, what should I do. Tell me!”

 “Do!(small vice)”

I heard from around the room.

I could see that a lot of people were concentrating seriously, like a real potter!

It is unavoidable to leave some places where the fingers have gripped.

When people were finished I could see they were happy.

It was good to see such facial expressions.

Making good work makes the artist happy.

We need to try to put glaze all over over pottery work.

“Teacher, can’t I just throw it in with a big splash?”

 “You’re saying I shouldn’t do that?”

“I’m going to leave a finger mark…”

“ I deliberately made it for this shape”

Various people said.

The difficult part is to do the inside of the bowl.

It’s important not to forget to do this first.

You turn and tilt the bowl to cover all the inside with the red glaze.

Use this turning movement to try to fix the glaze.

While watching friends working you can bet anxious that they won’t drop it into the bucket.

The tool we were using today makes some dust, and since it wasn’t raining we went onto the Art Room veranda.

The children seemed excited to be doing our first outside activity for a while.

You need to be careful how you grip the pot, and it is quite tense being careful not to break it.

Some people worked onto paper carefully inside the room.

Are we going to try to carve this into a hill shape?!

We’ll be working hard until the next class.

We hand turned our clay and made forms with a pre-set amount of clay.

Every year I think about how to describe this pre-set shape of clay we start with, it is like a hamburger bun but a little taller.

We need to careful with how much water we use as the air is very dry at the moment.

“Teacher, it’s amazing! Look at Miss S!”

Someone called.

I looked across and saw she was able to bend the joint of her thumb right back!!

“I can make it really easily with this skill”

She said and showed me how she could use it.

Sure enough she was able to use her thumb to help mould the base of the clay.

When the lesson finished we were able to look at and appreciate the forms we had made.
