方便品第二（その１４）

その時、仏が告げた
At that time, the Buddha said
舎利弗よ
Shariputra
私は今、この会衆に対して
Now, in this assembly, I
再び余計な枝葉が無い
There are no more unnecessary branches
純粋で、固いつぼみのみある
Pure, steadfast, and true
舎利弗よ
Shariputra
このような慢心の強い人々
Such arrogant people
退くのもまた良いことである
It is also good that they withdraw
あなたは今、よく聞きなさい
Now, listen carefully
まさにあなたのために説くべきである
I shall now expound for you
舎利弗が言った
Shariputra said
その通りです、世尊
Yes, World-Honored One
喜んで聞きたいと願う
I joyfully wish to hear
仏が舎利弗に告げた
The Buddha told Shariputra
このような素晴らしい法
Such a wonderful Dharma
諸仏、如来たち
The various Buddhas and Tathagatas
時が来て、ようやくこれを説く
When the time comes, they expound it
優曇華（まれに咲く伝説の花）のように
Like the rare Udumbara flower
ある時、一度だけ現れる
Appears only once at a certain time
舎利弗よ
Shariputra
あなたたちは、まさに信じるべきである
You all should believe
仏が説かれたこと
What the Buddha has taught
言葉に虚偽がない
The words are not false
舎利弗よ
Shariputra
諸仏は状況に応じて法を説く
The Buddhas preach according to circumstances
その意図を理解するのは難しい
The meaning is difficult to understand
なぜ～なのか
For what reason?
私は無数の方便を用いる
I use countless skillful means
様々な因縁
Various causes and conditions
例えや言葉
Parables and words
諸法を詳しく説く
Expound various teachings
この法は思考や分析によるものではない
This Dharma is not subject to thought or analysis
それを理解できる
That which can be understood
ただ諸仏だけが持つ
Only the Buddhas possess
ようやくこれを知らしめれる
Only then can they understand
