Rさん(RSMから米国NorthWestern University, Kellogg School of Managementに交換留学)
The MBA student life at RSM is incredible international without a dominant nationality and with a batch size allowing for both diversity and intimity. Getting to know each other student is learningfull and powerful for personal learning.
Adding an exchange to this intensive year is an extra perspective - for me giving the opportunity to experience a big and leading US MBA school at Kellogg (1,400 full time students alone). Knowing each person is obviously not realistic, but the number of offerings in all MBA aspects make choosing difficult. Today I would not want to be without both experiences learning from.
Aさん(香港のHKUST(香港科技大学)からの交換留学生)
My exchange experience in RSM is quite challenging. The first thing that is vividly different is the selections of elective courses. In HKUST, it offers selections of general management in China courses that would enhance the knowledge and experience regarding China market that is significantly growing at this moment.
I took Building a Powerful Consumer Brand in China course. The professor is the former CEO of PepsiCo China that has several years of extensive experiences to deal with China context that western practices cannot be applied. This insight is valuable for those who would like to be an entrepreneur or to do the business in China.
Another course that is related to China context is China’s External Relations and their Economic Impact. This course gives me an insight regarding how China manages its Economic strategy through political pressure within the Asian region and beyond (USA, Europe, for example). Professor of this course used to involve in Chinese politics and possesses broad knowledge about China that could link the historical event with current up-to-date situations.
Apart from diversified professor from Western and Eastern world, HKUST is well known for its Finance-related courses as Hong Kong is one of major global financial market. Almost 30 course options are available for selection and these courses cover wide ranges of financial sectors such as commercial banks, investment banks, risk management, and so on.
For RSM, I’m here at the last semester so most of the financial courses available are not applicable for me since I have taken similar courses in HKUST already such as Risk Management for financial institutions or strategic finance and value creation. Therefore, I could take only Private Equity course. As far as I attend this course, I think the professor is really good at presenting his knowledge to the class with in-depth analysis. He also creates his own case for student to crack and the case is really applicable to the European market, especially in Netherlands.
Another impressive course in RSM that I could not find elsewhere would be sustainability-related courses. I took Company and Ecology class. This course opened my new dimension of study. The class is taken outside the normal classroom but in the garden instead. I learned how to apply the concept of sustainability to the actual business cases that were given out every week.
In the conclusion, my study experience in RSM fulfills my experience beyond Asian context and enriches my sustainability background for the better future of the company and the world.
