11. 月は潮の満ち引きに影響を与える。
→潮の満ち引きは、ebb and flow（英語の語順は、"引き満ち")であり、
・The moon affects the ebb and flow of the tides.のように使う。
※the ebb tide=引き潮、the flowing tide=上げ潮
簡単に言うために考える。潮の満ち引きは、具体的に現象面を見ると、以下の3通り程ある。
⑴海面が上下動すること。
・The moon changes the sea level.
・Water goes up and down because of the power of the moon.
・The moon moves the water in the ocean up and down.
・The moon pulls the sea water, and brings the water up and down.
・The sea rises and falls because of the moon.
・The moon pulls the sea, raises and lowers the water.
⑵水量が増減すること。
・The moon controls the amount of water in the ocean. Sometimes there is more water, sometimes there is less near the beach.
・Sometimes there is a lot of water, sometimes there is little water near the land. It's all because of the moon.
⑶海水が陸地から離れる（干）ことと、
近づく（満）こと。
・The moon makes the water in the ocean come and go.
・The moon is powerful enough to bring the sea water to the land, and carry the sea water away.
・The moon controls the movement of the sea.
潮の満ち引きも、ebb and flow をたとえ知らなくても、上記のように考えれば、何通りか表現できる可能性がある。表現する際に、立ち位置を変えると表現できる可能性が広がる。月から見る、海岸から見る、沖から見る。進んで、月として見る、海として見る、陸として見る。想像力を駆使すれば、自由に視点を変えることができる。

ここで、考えるヒントをもう一つ、
中国古典『易経』（易占いの原典）から、
窮即変、変即通
『窮すれば変ず、変ずれば通ず』
一般的には、窮すれば通ずると言われている。
壁に直面した際、自分の考え方、身の処し方を変えれば、通過できる、との教え。
恐らく、水のあり方を念頭に、作られた言葉ではないだろうか。老子にも『上善は水の如し』とある。日本にも、『水は方円の器に従う』というものがある。一見弱そうに見える水から、柔軟に考え生きるコツを、そして、英語上達の秘訣を学べそうである。
英英辞典を引いていたら、
・The tide is in. （満潮）
・The tide is out. （干潮）
・Is the tide coming in or going out?
というのがあった。いとも簡単に言えるので、覚えておきたい。
