Look at the beautiful stairs! ステキな階段になりました！

日本から両親が来ていたため中断していたペンキ塗り。
５月下旬から再開。
校舎の反対側の下塗りから。

またまた夫をかり出して！
息子の友達のママも助っ人に来てくれた。


I took a break from painting because my parents visited us from Japan.
We started again by painting the base color of the stairs on the other side of the building.

My husband again!
My son's friend's mom too!




ワシワシっと塗りまくり、他の子の持ち場まで塗って先生に叱られる子
He's just going wild and messing with the other kids' steps.
His teacher was mad













５年生の先生たち！

特別学級の子供たち。
車いすから降りられないため、壁に手形をおすことに。
他のクラスの子供たちがお手伝い。

Kids with special needs.
Since they are in wheelchairs and can't go on the stairs, they put their hand prints on the wall.
The other kids helped.




















終盤にさしかかったところで、「私たちも塗りたいわ〜！」とカフェテリアのスタッフたち。
まだまだ終われないのだ〜〜〜

" We want to paint,too! " said the staff in the cafeteria when I was about to finish all work.
All right, I'll be working forever.

彼らのペイントの周りにデコレーションを描いて、かわいい壁の一画になりました！
I decorated around their art work.
Isn't it pretty!?




市議会議員や教育委員さんが来てくれ、ささやかなお披露目セレモニーをしました。
We had a small ceremony to open the new stairs with all the 5th graders!
A city council member, a school district member and some other community members came for us.






６月１日、合計１１０段の階段塗り全て終了！

卒業式は６月６日。

それに間に合うように、私はただもう必死で働きました！

大勢の子供たちとのプロジェクトは大変だったけど、彼らの自由な発想を見るのは楽しく、ステキな階段が出来上がっていくのを見るのもわくわくした。
他の学年の先生たちも喜んでくれて、他の学年の子供たちは自分たちもやりたくてうらやましがって。
我が子は卒業するけれど、また来年も何かやるかも！？



June, 1st.
All 110 stairs are done!
Only 3 days before the 5th grade promotion.

I just worked so hard to make it to the end of the school year!

It wasn't easy to work with so many kids but it was so fun to see their unlimited imagination.
I was excited to see the process of transforming the stairs.
So were all of the teachers and kids.

I might do something next year!?

DAY 5 〜 DAY 8

今週もまた、小学校の階段ペンキ塗り。
５日目〜８日目。

Painting the school stairs, Day5 - Day 8!










「わたしたちにも塗らせてくれる？？」
トイレに行く途中の幼稚園児ふたり
（ここの小学校には幼稚園年少、幼稚園、１年生〜５年生の子供が通っています）
「早く教室に戻らないと先生に怒られるでしょ？」
「うんちしてて遅くなっちゃったって言うから大丈夫！」
「、、、」
ペタペタペンキで遊んだ後は大満足で、
「ペンキ塗りさせてくれてありがとう。あなたいい人ね！」
と言われました〜〜〜。

" Can we paint?? "
Two TK girls on the way to the bathroom.
" Your teacher will be mad if you guys don't go back to your class "
" It's okay! We will tell her that we took long time because we were pooing "

They were so happy after their doing their job and said,
" Thank you for letting us paint. You are so nice! "






おしゃべりが止まらない女子。

４年生の女の子たち。
「なんで５年生だけなのぉ！？　ずるーい！　わたしたちもやりたーい！」
私の顔を見るたび言うので、２カ所だけ塗らせてあげることに。

The 4th graders were so jealous because this project is for 5th graders.
They were bugging me by saying,
" Why is it only for 5th graders!? Not fair! We want to do it, too!!"

So here they are.
I let them paint two steps after school.

子供たちはとても楽しんでやっていて、いろんなおしゃべりもしてくれて、５年生はまだかわいいなー。
(と、我が家の生意気な９年生と比べる、、、）

The kids are having so much fun.
I enjoy working with them!
The 5th graders are still CUTE.
( I have a very annoying 9th grader!)

DAY 2 〜 DAY 4

Painting the school stairs, Day 2 - Day 4.

小学校の階段ペンキ塗り　２日目〜４日目。






ママにひっついて来た５歳の女の子が、「わたしも塗りたい」と言うので





なんとなくいい感じになってきた？









切った台所用スポンジを使ってペタペタ。








しゃがんだり立ったり、階段を上がって降りて、一日中。
体が痛いよ〜〜

来週も続きます。

ペンキ塗ります！

次男５年生、あと２ヶ月足らずで小学校を卒業。
卒業記念に５年生全員と何かアートプロジェクトをやりたいなあ、、、と、思いついたのが階段ペンキ塗り。

だって、この学校の階段エリア、なんの飾りっけもなく寂しかったんだもの。



夫を動員し、下塗り。
翌日、全身筋肉痛でヨレヨレ






本日、子供たちと本番塗り。
DAY 1.




数字の部分も子供に描かせようと思っていたのだけど、みんな筆の扱い方に慣れてなく、ぐちゃぐちゃ。

予定変更！
私が描きます。



５年生７５人と、校内の階段全部塗り。
どうなるか〜〜〜

オークランドとサンフランシスコを結ぶベイブリッジがとても混むので、車で行くのは面倒だけど、電車だとつるんと２０分くらいで行ける。
でもいく用事がないので、サンフランシスコのことはほとんど知らない。。。。
