日銀の新総裁が拒否される
1:The Japanese government's latest nominee to be governor of the Bank of Japan (BOJ) risks being vetoed by the opposition-controlled upper house.
日銀総裁を推薦した日本政府は、参議院で多数党の野党の拒否に遭っている。
2: The previous nominee, Toshiro Muto, was vetoed because the opposition said he was too close to the government.
先に推薦された武藤敏郎氏は、政府に近過ぎるとして野党が反対して拒否された。
3: But the new candidate, Koji Tanami, has held the same job at the finance ministry that Mr Muto used to have.
しかし、新たに推薦された田波耕治氏は、武藤氏と同じく財務省で仕事をしていた。
4: The current governor, Toshihiko Fukui, is due to retire on Wednesday, raising fears of a power vacuum at the BOJ.
現総裁の福井俊彦氏は、水曜日に退職する予定なので、日銀に総裁不在の不安が高まっている。
5: The choice of governor of the BOJ has to be approved by both houses of parliament, which is a problem for the government, because the upper house is dominated by the opposition.
日銀総裁の決定には、国会の両議院の承認が必要だ。参議院では野党が多数を握っているので政府にとっては頭が痛い問題だ。
6: They are expected to decide its stance later on Tuesday, but Kenji Yamaoka, a senior member of the Democratic Party said there was almost no chance that Mr Tanami would be approved.
火曜日の午後には態度を決めなければならないが、民主党の国会対策委員長の山岡健二氏は、田波氏が承認される可能性は先ずないと言った。
7: "Personally, I think it is almost impossible," he said.
「個人的には、先ず不可能と思います、」と彼は言った。
8: If a new governor is not chosen by Wednesday, the government can either extend Mr Fukui's term or appoint a temporary governor, who would probably be the deputy governor Masaaki Shirakawa.
もし、水曜日までに新総裁が決まらなければ、政府は、福井総裁の期間延長を決めるか、暫定総裁を任命するだろう。それは、多分、白川方明氏であろう。
