私が小学生だった頃、夕方になると、いつも母の立つ台所でその日の出来事を逐一報告した。
どんな話も彼女は喜んで聞いてくれて、ささいなことでもほめてくれた。
母にほめられることは、何より嬉しかった。
小さな子供はいつも親を、特に母親を、喜ばせたいと思っている。
すごいね、
えらいね、
そんなふうに言われて、自分の存在をまるごと受け止めてもらえているという、安心感と自信を支えに成長していくのだ。
私は、こんな大きな大人になった今でも、母にほめられるととても嬉しい。
子供のころの気持ちとかわらない。
がんばったことやうれしかったことを、同じように母が喜んでくれると幸せな気分になる。
夫も同じ。
電話で彼の母親に、最近の仕事のことや近頃自分が取り組んでいることなどを話している。
きっと電話の向こうでママも
『あら、それは素敵ね！』
『あなたになら出来るわよ』
と優しい言葉をかけているに違いない。
夫の声は柔らかくなる。
今日は母の誕生日。
おめでとう。

When I was a kid, I always stayed in a kitchen after school to tell my mom everything that happened that day.
She listened to me joyfully and praised me for every small thing.
I was proud of myself to get compliments from my mother.
All children are eager to please their parents.
Especially their mother.
You are good.
How wonderful!

I still feel good when my mom says great thing about me.
I'm now a big girl but it hasn't changed.
I feel very happy when my mom is pleased at what I've done.
It's same with my husband.
He tells his mom on the phone about what is going on with his work, music or whatever .
I know she says;
‘That's great!’
‘Oh, I'm sure you can do it.’
My husband's voice goes sweet as he talks to her.
It is my mom's birthday today.
Happy birthday mom!
