選択科目その１ (Electives part1)

早いもので１月ももう終わってしまう。
今月は何もせずになんだか終わってしまう気がする、うーん、やばいですな。

今学期からは選択科目を選べるようになったので、
今は４科目（うち、２つは半期だけのミニ科目）を取っています。
そのせいか、宿題やグループワークが多くてあまり時間が取れません。。。

でも、その選択科目が面白い！
中でもこ、これはっ！と思うのが、
『ベンチャーの機会とビジネスモデル評価』というもの。

要は、ベンチャーとしていくつかの選択肢が考えられるとき、
どれを選べばいいかについての（自分なりの）スキルを習得するのが目的なんですが、
授業のペースが速い、速い。^^;;
のっけから授業時間内で即席のチームでミニケースをやらされるし、
英語ネイティブもややあせるほどのスピードでディスカッションは進んでいきます。
で、ケースはまだ進行中のケースだけ。
当然、正解などありません。
実際にケースの主人公もやって来て、先週はベンチャーキャピタリストが、
今週はなんとうちの部屋をあっせんしてくれた不動産エージェントが
（彼はInseadを先月卒業したようです・・・）やってきます。

この授業はアントレだけでなく、ジェネラルマネジメントにも
とても有益な授業なので、今度Inseadに来られる方は是非取ることをオススメします。

I've found I didn't do anything this month, but it's almost gone...

I took 4 electives this term (P3) which consists of 2 full term ones
and 2 half-credit ones.
Maybe this is why I'm busier than before because most electives
require us to do more group works and assignments than core courses do.

However, electives are really interensting!
Above all, I strongly recommend prospective participants take
"Venture Opportunities and Business Models"

This course offers opportunities to learn the skills how to evaluate
the best opportunity among a lot of choices when considering venture stage business.
I think this course is one of the most dynamic electives at Insead
because class discussion is so fast that even native speakers seem to struggle to follow its pace.
Moreover, we have no time to relax;
-At the first class, we had a mini case study to choose
the best business model to invest among three ventures
-The case studies discussed in class are all on-going cases,
that is, people in the cases are now challenging to find solutions.
Most of them in the cases to be discussed in classes are supposed to
visit Insead and we have a lot of chances to contact with them.
I interviewed one Venture Capitalist last week, and we will have
one real estate agent who arranged my condominium and just graduated
from Insead last December...

This class is really interesting and exciting!
I strongly recommend you, new participants, to chosse this course.

国別対抗バスケ大会 (Integration Basketball event)

今夜は今いるP3と新しく来たP1、そしてexchangeで来たWharton生や
フランスから来たP3の交流イベントとして、国別対抗バスケ大会が行われました。

僕らは日本/韓国チームとして参加。
結果は芳しいものではありませんでしたが、
久しぶりに運動できて、また、楽しむことも出来て、
疲れたけれど満足です。^^
１度だけみぞおちにショルダーチャージをくらって
悶絶してましたが・・・(--;

バスケは比較的少人数で出来るので、結構どこの国の人でも
やっているようですね。アメリカ、カナダ、スペインを始めとして、
ギリシャ、他のヨーロッパ諸国、中東、オーストラリア、etc...
さすが、InternationalなInseadですね。

To facilitate the integration among the new coming P1s, P3s in Singapore,
P3s coming from fonty, and Whartonians,
we had a basketball event this evening.

We joined the event as a Japan/Korea team.
I enjoyed playing basketball for the first time since I played in Milan
last year and was satisfied; however, the result was not good...
I was hit the shoulder charging in the center of my body and
had a hard time to inhail/exhail...but now recovered.

Looking at the nationalities of participants, I found that
people all over the world play basketball.
US, Canada, Spain, Other Europe, Middle East, Australia...
This would be because it is not necessary to have a lot of members
to play basketball, I guess.
Anyway, there were a lot of nationalities; this is really Insead experience!

フードコート (Food Court)

シンガポールは香港と同様、どうやら外食社会のようです。
すごいのは大きなアパート群には必ずと言っていいほど、
真ん中にマーケットや簡単な食事が出来るお店が集まっている
フードコートがあること。

と言うわけで、基本的には僕も家の近くのフードコートに
お世話になっていると言うわけです。

写真は中華の盛り合わせ（バイキング形式）とタイガービール。
料理だけだとS$3.5（約280円）という安さです。
飯は安いけど、ビールはS$2.8（約230円）と日本とほぼ同じなんですよね・・・

After spending 2 weeks here, in Singapore,
I feel that people in Singapore often eat outside.
In every large collection of apartments
there is a food court where people can eat and drink.

This is why I eat a lot in such food courts.

The picture above shows one choose-as-you-want style meal (S$3.5)
and a can of Tiger Beer (S$2.8).
A dish is amagingly cheap compared with that in Japan,
but a beer costs as much as in Japan...

シンガポールキャンパス (Insead Singapore Campus)

学校が始まり、もう既に２週間が経過しようとしており、
シンガポール生活もあと６週間の命となってしまいました。^^;

Inseadのシンガポールキャンパスはこじんまりとしていると
聞いていましたが、確かにヨーロッパキャンパスと比べると
こじーんまりとしてます。
が、都会的キャンパスらしく、６F建てのオフィスビルのような
造りでありながら、教授陣や学生が不満なく使用できるように
なかなか機能的且つ美的にも上手く造られていると思います。

ただ、なんと言っても最大の違いは・・・キャンパスが明るいと言うこと。
トロピカルな雰囲気、モダンな造り、など要素はいろいろ
ありそうですが、お日様って有難いとつくづく感じる今日この頃です。

Two weeks have already passed since the programme resumed.
That means I can stay here for no more than six weeks...

I had heard that Singapore campus was so tiny compared with Europe campus,
and it actually is in terms of its area.
However, Singapore campus consists of six floors and is concisely built;
this makes it larger than it appears and let facultiy and students
feel comfortable in researching, teaching and studying.

Above all, the biggest difference between them is
this campus is filled with much sunshine!
This might stem from its tropical atmosphere, modern structure and so on,
and really reminds me of the importance of sunshine in our daily life...

ウェルカムウィーク真っ最中！ (Welcome Week!)

今年はシンガポールから第３学期をスタートしたわけですが、
時を同じくして、今年から新たに入学してきた方々もいます。
で、今、Inseadでは新入生歓迎のためのウェルカムウィークが
行われているというわけです。

まぁ、クラブの勧誘があったり、Insead生活についての説明があったり、
アウトドア活動による、初のグループでの仕事があったりと、
基本的にはいわゆるオリエンテーションなんですが、
これはつまり、僕らが上級生になったことを意味するわけです。

去年の８月末、期待と不安が入り混じった気持ちで
フランスへやって来たことを遠い昔のように思い出しました。^^

・・・ですが、僕らは既に授業が始まっていて、
あっという間に現実に引き戻されているわけですが・・・

As I started the 3rd period at Insead in Singapore this year,
new P1 participants also started their new MBA life here.
So, now at Insead in Singapore/France, we are having
a welcome week for new participants at Insead.

This week includes:
-Explanation about Insead life
-Invitation to club activities
-First group work through outdoor activities
and so on.
However, this means that we have become
the senior participants at Insead!

In last August, I had started Insead MBA life in France
with the mixed feeling of expectation and concern.
This welcome week reminds me of those days
that seem to have been a long time ago...

But we have already started to study new subjects,
drawing me back to the real life from vacances...

シンガポール生活スタート！ (Starting new life at Singapore!)

Insead生にとってはとぉーっても長かった冬休みも今日で終わりですが、
僕のInsead生活＠シンガポールは既に始まっています！

１月と２月の２ヶ月間だけですが、外国人居住者が多くすむ、
高層ビルのコンドミニアムに今は住んでいます。
観光名所で言えば、ホランドヴィレッジにやや近いかな？という所みたいです。

今の時期は気温もそれほど高くなく、湿度はまぁありますが、
半そでで気持ちよく過ごせる季節なのかな？というのが来てからの印象です。

それにしても、繁華街には何でも揃ってる！
-吉野家（まだ試してません）
-ダイソー（表記はほぼ日本語）
-高島屋（日本の代表的デパートブランド？）
-ベスト電器（ちょっとびっくり）
などなど。さすがシンガポール、買い物天国です。

写真は僕の部屋からの眺めです。11階で、Inseadの友人（インドネシア人）と
シェアして暮らしてます。床が大理石など変に贅沢な造りです。^^;

The longest holidays in my Insead life has almost gone...
However, my new Insead life @Singapore has already started!

I now live in a condominium which a lot of expatriates live
just for a couple of months (Jan. and Feb.).
This is a high building and locates a little close to
the Holldand village, one of the touristy places in Singapore.

This season in Singapore has the lowest temperature (around 25-30C).
My impression for the weather is not bad, although it is a little humid.
I can easily feel relaxed with half-sleeved T-shirts.

On the main street, I could find anything useful!
-Daiso (Famous low price shop in Japan)
-Yoshinoya (Famous Japanese-style first-food restaurant)
-Takashimaya (Major department store brand in Japan)
-Best Electronic Appliances (One of the major distributers in Japan)
For Japanese, Singapore is one of the best place to live, I guess.

The picture above is taken from the balcony of my room.
My room locates on the 11th floor and I can see Insead, Marriott Hotel and so on.
I live here sharing with my ex-classmate, Indnesian.
The floor is made of gorgeous stones, which makes me feel too luxurious...^^;

最後の昼餐？ (The last lunch?)

出国後は半年は帰国しないことが分かっているので、
成田空港での最後のランチは和定食にしてみました。^^

ヒレカツにエビフライ、刺身に茶碗蒸し・・・
あぁ、しばらくはこれらが食べられないと思うと。。。
海外暮らしをして思うことは、
日本って本当に飯が美味い！
なんでもそろってますしね、ここ最近は。
つくづく、僕は日本人なんだなぁと思う今日この頃です。

As I know I would not be able to eat GOOD Japanese meals,
I enjoyed eating one when I had a lunch at Narita airport before taking off.

Deep-fried and no-fat porc, deep-fried prawn, sashimi, and cyawanmushi...
I become nervous considering that I would not be able to eat them...

After spending several months abroad,
I can definitely say that THE MEALS IN JAPAN ARE REALLY DELICIOUS!
In addition, we can eat everything in the would these days.

I feel I'm the truly Japanese recently.

初詣 (Wishing a good year)

正月も明けてもう５日が過ぎてましたが、近所の神社に初詣に行きました。
テレビによると、７日（所によると１５日）までは神様がいるそうで、
その間に初詣に行けばいいようです。

願い事は「今年（こそ）は良い年でありますように」程度で、
まぁ一応行っておかないと、という感じですね、ここ最近。

年末に『神道は宗教ではない』と言う議論をちょっとしたんですが、
実際のところはどうなんでしょう？どなたか知ってます？^^;

Although 5 days had already passed this year,
I visited the closest shrine from my home to wish a good year.
It is a custom in Japan to visit shrine and wish good things happen on us.
People usually believe that we should visit the shrine within 3 days
after the new year comes, but we can do so within 7 days (or 15 days)
according to the news programs.
(It means that the god is still down to the earth during 7 days.)

I wished that this year would become a good one for me (as usual).
To tell the truth, I'm not so serious that I just continue to visit there
just because it is the custom in Japan...

Anyway, I discussed with my friend at the end of last year
whether "Shinto" is a kind of religion or not.
I believe that it is not, but if you know the truth, please let me know...

あけましておめでとうございます。 (A Happy New Year)

いやはや、新年のご挨拶が遅れてしまいました。

あけましておめでとうございます。

旧年中はいろいろな方々にお世話になりました。
今年も何卒宜しくお願い申し上げます。

去年の今頃は、とりあえず出願を一通り終えて、のほほーんとしていたことを
思い出しますが、それが後に滑り止めの合格校を先に手放すということになろうとは・・・
まぁ、第１志望にその後合格できたので結果オーライなんですが。

昨年は移動が忙しい年でしたね。
1月　イサカ（米、NY州）、ケンブリッジ（英）、フォンティ（仏）へ受験旅行
2月　ケンブリッジ、ロンドン（英）へ受験旅行
3-5月　日本
6月　ヴィルフランシュ（南仏、コートダジュール）で仏語留学
7月　フィラデルフィア（米）でMBA準備
8月　日本で渡仏準備
9-12月　フォンティでMBA学習

今年も1,2月はシンガポール、その後、ドバイ旅行を経て、
3月からまたフォンティへ戻ります。

今年は何人かフランスへ来たいという話も聞いていますので、
残り少ない（もうあと半年！）留学生活を満喫したいと思います。

Three days have already passed before I give you greetings...anyway,

A HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

Thanks to all of the people I knew and got to know,
I could spend great days last year.
I wish all of them a good and happy year.

During this time last year, I was very relaxed after finishing
the application for most of the business schools.
Later on, I regretted my behaviour at that time
because I had to give up the admission from one of the schools
before I got the one from my priority school...
Anyway, I could be admitted by my dream school later.^^;

Considering what I did last year, I think I moved more often than usual.
Jan: short trip to Ithaca(NY, USA), Cambridge(UK), Fonty(France)
Feb: short trip to Cambridge, London(UK)
Mar-May: Japan
Jun: studying French in Ville Franche Sur Mer(Cote d'Azur, southern France)
Jul: pre-MBA school in Philadelphia(USA)
Aug: prepared for MBA in Japan
Sep-Dec: MBA study in Fonty

I will study in Singapore this January and February,
and then go back to Fonty after traveling in Dubai for a couple of days.

I heard some friends would come to France while I'm there.
I'd like to enjoy the rest of my MBA study at INSEAD!!!
