選択科目その２ (Introduction to Electives part 2)

今日、今学期の選択科目の１つである、『商品/サービス開発戦略』が終わりました。
この授業では、各個人が思い立ったアイデア約50個から8つのプロジェクトへと
絞込み、6-8人のグループ（アメリカのアートセンターカレッジオブデザインの学生を１人含む）
に分かれて、グループで１つの商品開発をコンセプト作りまで行うと言う授業です。

クラスは主に、１）講義形式の授業と２）実際にグループでコンセプト作りを行うの
２つのステージに分かれているのですが、実際に商品開発を行うがごとく、
グループによってバラバラだったり、スムーズに進めていたりという体験が
実作業を通じて得られて、単なるケーススタディでは得られないものを学べた気がします。

今日は各グループの発表があり、最初のアイデアからは想像もつかない
コンセプトを作り上げているグループが多くて、とても有意義だったと感じています。
うちのグループも最初は出遅れましたが、最後はいいものが仕上がり、
他のグループメイトからも高評価を得ることが出来ました。

それにしても、商業デザイン専攻の学生は発想やデザイン能力が抜きん出ていて、
デザインだけでこうも変わるのかと思い知らされましたね。^^;

We've just finished working for the class,
"Strategies for Product and Services Development" today.
In this class, participants worked together for 8 ideas out of about 50 drafts
with some people from Art Center of College and Design in the US,
one of the top advanced education organization of design in the world.
We work to build up one product concept working with other 5-7 participants.

The contents of class consists of 1)lecture and 2)group work.
During those works, we struggled in concept making with other participants
including ACCD people and Wharton exchangers.
Hence, we could learn what wouldn't be learned through case studies.

Today, we had final presentations in the last class
and I was impressed with the final solution each group came up with.
Although our group did make a bad start, we could make it in today's finals.
We could also receive good reputation from our classmates.

Anyway, I really recognized the brightness in design and creativity of
ACCD people through group work with them and other guys.
One good design totally changes the impression of product concept.
I really learned it through this course.

日銀の金融政策 (Monetary Policy of Bank of Japan)

今日はマクロ経済の授業で、各国の中央銀行の金融政策について議論しました。
その中で、うちのグループは日銀の今月の会合での金融政策について調査し、
利上げをすべきか否かについてレポートを提出しました。

結果として、教授と同じ意見である『0.25%で据え置き』を根拠つきで
なんとか説明できたし、実際、今回は僕が１人で担当していたので、
グループメイトからもお褒めの言葉を頂きました。^^

で、最後に観たのがこのYouTube。
CBS（コロンビア・ビジネス・スクール）のグレン・ハバード学部長が
現在のアメリカの中央銀行であるFRBの議長候補として、現議長の
バーナンキ氏と争っていた？ことを踏まえたパロディです。
おそらくCBSの学生が作ったんでしょうが、なかなか面白く、おすすめです♪

We discussed the monetary policy of central bank
around the world today in macroeonomics class.
Our group took charge in Bank of Japan and was asked to
give a recommendation whether BoJ should raise interest rate this month.

As a result, we reached agreement BoJ should not raise,
the same opinion as our professor's.
As I finished writing report only by myself because it was my turn,
my groupmates were glad at the results.

Then, the YouTube above is the video we watched in our class.
As you know, Mr. Bernanke, the chairman of FRB in the US fought
its place with Prof. Glen Hubbard, the Dean of Columbia Business School (CBS).
This movie was probably made by CBS students and very funny and interesting.

プールでリラックス♪ (Swimming in the pool)

前にも書きましたが、うち（ドーバーパークビュー）には共用のプールがあります。
で、今日はちょっと試しに行ってみました。

いやー、水温もちょうどよく、きれいに掃除もされているので、
なかなか気分良く泳ぐことが出来ました～♪
プールサイドではどうも誰かの誕生日パーティーをやっていて、
数人の人が他に泳いでいましたね。

残念なのは、よく見る前にビキニ姿のおねーさんが帰ってしまったことですか・・・

In our condominium, as I wrote the other day, there is a pool.
So, I went to swim tonight.^^

Temperature is good and the pool is well cleaned,
so I could relax and enjoyed swimming
for the first time since I did a loooong time ago.

Some people were having a birthday party for someone by poolside,
and some of them seem to have enjoyed swimming as well.

The only thing I regret is I could not see BIKINI lady much before she left...

図書館通い (Studying at Library)

・復習不足
・レポートが溜まっている
・来週は旅行したい
・なんとなく出不精
ということで、学校の図書館でお勉強してました。

と言っても、いつも最初のとっかかりが捗らないのが僕のペース。
今日もあまり進展が無いまま、家路につくのでした。。。

それにしても、シンガポールキャンパスの図書館は
蔵書数こそフランスに見劣りするものの、モダンで綺麗で掃除も行き届いていて、
なかなか住み心地がいいですね。^^

Then, I was studying at Tanoto library at Insead.

My study always starts slowly, so I could not make a progress today, too...

Tanoto library at Insead Singapore campus is
-Clean (Clean lady always works)
-Modern
-Neat and organized
-But less books...
Spending for a while here is not bad, I think.^^

ブラジリアンパーティー (Brasilian Party @Dover)

昨日、コア科目のうち１つの試験が終わったためか、
今日は僕が住んでいるドーバーパークビューでブラジル人主催の
パーティーが開かれました。

ドーバーパークビューは外国人が多く住むコンドミニアムで、
幾つもの塔の真ん中にプールやBBQスペースがあります。
というわけで、プールサイドでバーベキューという
なんともリッチな境遇・・・^^

P1、P3、フォンティから来た人、シンガポールから始めた人、
ウォートンから来た人、アメリカのアートセンターから来た人など
国籍、所属、年齢入り乱れてのパーティーでした。

最近はクラスメイトとも仲良くなったし、会話も適当ながら
こなせるようになってきたので、なんとかパーティーにも
慣れてきた感があります。
いや、実際、行くと楽しいんですねー。
何事も経験が大事だと思う今日この頃です。

We had a BBQ party at Dover Parkview Condominium tonight.
Some Brasilian guys organized this event. Thanks a lot!
Everyone appeared relaxed, maybe because one of core subjects
has been over yesterday with the final exam.

A lot of expats live in this condos, Dover Parkview.
In the center of condos, there is a swimming pool and BBQ space.
Yah, what a nice place to live... cannot imagine in Japan...

There are a lot of P1s, P3s, people from Fonty or Singapore,
and artists from ACCD in the US and so on...

Now that I have a lot of classmates and have got to know
how to get along well with international people.
Actually, party with them is more fun than I expected!
We have to get out of ourselves to achieve new things.
No courage, no advance!

トルコはEUに加わるべきか？ (Should Turkey join the EU?)

Inseadの特徴として、『国際性』が１番にあげられるかと思いますが、
それは学生の出身国の数だけでなく、教授・科目の評価に国際性があるか否か
を問われたり、必修科目の中に国際政治分析があったりすることが
証明していると思います。

この主題はその国際政治分析の授業中で扱った内容です。
僕自身は『反対』の立場のグループにいた（写真のプレゼン）のですが、
トルコとEU、特にギリシャやキプロスとの関係について
色々と学べたのと、クラスにギリシャ人とトルコ人がいて、
ちょうどそれぞれ反対と賛成で議論に参加していたので
とても楽しく、ためになる授業でした。

・・・ただ、教授が抑揚無くしゃべる人なので、
普段の授業ははっきり言ってつまらないんですけどね・・・
内容は面白いと皆言ってますが・・・

If you are asked 'What is the characteristic of Insead?,'
you would answer its international perspective.
In fact, internationality can be seen in:
-the number of nationalities of participants,
-professor/course is also evaluated in terms of its
international perspective,
-'International Political Analysis' is one of the core courses.

This subjects (Turkey in EU?) was discussed in today's class.
Our group presented in terms of 'against' it, and another one did 'for.'
I did not participate in the class discussion,
but could learn much about Turkey, Greece, Cyprus and relationships among them.
Moreover, a Greek is in my group and a turkish is in another one,
so we could hear what they think of this issue directly.
This is the very Insead experience, I think.

...However, usual classes was boring due to the prof's way of teaching.
Honestly, it's BORING; I think he should be more excited and try to
make the in-class discussion interesting...
