般若心経の空（我流）Transcendent spiritual mantra and Formless (Myth)

般若心経を読むと

『無』『空』『色』という文字が多く書かれている。

Reading Hanyasinkyo which is a scripture of Buddhism

『Non』『Empty』『Color』characters are written much.

それらの文字の意味は英語圏内の人には

直訳や意訳にしても伝えることは困難である。

It is hard to convey those meanings to English speakers

 even with literal translation or transitorily.

翻訳経験が豊かな人でさえ

文化的な背景を注釈したとしても

Even to a translator whose translation carrier is rich

 and annotated for cultural background.

その言葉の現象を天秤にかけて等しくなるように

重さ加減をすることは難しいだろう。

It is also difficult to adjust words weight to take balance

 like a steelyard to be equal.

私は坐禅関連の翻訳を始めているが

I have begun translation related with zazen.

その仕事を全うするには

To carry out my work,

般若心経の内容を知る必要がある。

I need to know the contents of Hanyashinkyo the scripture.

それで般若心経をじっくり読んでみたのだが

That is why I tried reading over it.

般若心経の解釈が人によって異なり

宗派によっても見方が若干違うことが分かった。

However, I found that interpretation of Hanyashinkyo is

 slightly different from people’s perspective and sects.

解釈や見方が違うというのは

The reason why those viewpoints have differences

原文に書かれている本来の意味が

 on the original book written primarily,

数学の公式のように原則として

定まっていないからでもあろう。

 it might not determine as a principal like mathematic equations.

 

また、英訳した般若心経を読み比べても

Also, I compared other English translations of Hanyashinkyo,

英訳した人の英語言語能力の差によって

表現の違いや単語の選択による個人差があった。

 I found that there are individual differences of expression

  and picking words on the translations by translator’s English capacities.

それなら、般若心経を私流に解釈してもそれほど

外れたことにはならないはずだ。

Then I thought, if I translate Hanyashinkyo in my perspective,

  it may not be such out of ways.

そのような経緯で

With those reasons,

これからしばらくの間は

  from now for a little while,

般若心経を英訳してみることにしたのである。

 I decided to interpret Hanyashinkyo into English.

だが、全文を通訳する前に

However, before interpreting the full text

基本の土台として

 as a fundamental base  

経典の基本概念である『空』を明らかにする必要がある。

I need to make clear the fundamental concept of “Emptiness” in the scripture.

『空』をグーグル通訳にかけるとそら（空）になる。

When put “Emptiness” for Google translation,

  it interprets into word meaning of sky.

初めてその自動通訳を読んだ時は

滑稽で笑ったのだが

When I first read the automatic translation,

 I laughed because it was ridiculous.

『空』について更に深く考えていくことにつれて

However, as I have been thinking more deeply about “Emptiness”

『そら』の空、その空気の構成要素の分子構造と

Sky which is air, the molecular structure and components,

それほどかけ離れていないのではと思うようになった。

 it seems for me to think that the phenomenon is somehow related.

ウィキペディアの空気に関する説明によると、

According to Wikipedia about atmosphere,the air

 

『地表付近の大気の主な成分は、比率が高い順に、窒素が78.08%、酸素が20.95%、アルゴンが0.93%、二酸化炭素が0.03%である。水蒸気は最大4%程度になるが1%を下回ることもあり、場所や時間によって大きく変動する』

『The main components of the atmosphere near the surface are 78.08% nitrogen , 20.95% oxygen , 0.93% argon , 0.03% carbon dioxide , in order of the highest proportion . Water vapor is about 4% at maximum but sometimes it is less than 1%, it varies greatly depending on place and time.』

 

一方の般若心経では

In the Hanyashinkyo,

色即是空＝形あるものはそのままで実体がないものである

A form is formless=A form which has a shape, it does not have substance as it is.

色即 (visible phenomenon, a form)

 是空 (invisible phenomenon, a formless)

空即是色＝実体がないことがそのまま形あるものとなっている

A formless is form=A formless which does not have substance, it does have form as it is.

空即 (invisible phenomenon, a formless)

是色 (visible phenomenon, a form)

上記の般若心経の『空』の文字イメージに

Above Hanyashinkyo, make an image onto “Emptiness=Invisible”

空気の気体構成成分である元素を当てはめると

Substitute for element which gas constitution of gas,

色即是空≒元素はそのまま実体が見えないものであり

A form is formless≒Element is invisible as it is.

空即是色≒実体を持てない性質がそのまま実体になっている

A formless is form≒The formless element be visible as it is.

即ち、窒素や酸素、水蒸気はそのままでは実体として見えないが

Therefore, nitrogen, oxygen, and water vapor are not seen as they are,

雨や雪、氷になって視覚化でき

 but can be visualized by turning into rain, snow, ice

また実体として現れるのである。

 they appear as a visible entity again.

雨や雪、氷はまた蒸発して

Rain and snow, ice evaporate again

形の無い、実体の無いものになっている。

 and it becomes formless, without substance.

『空』は空気のように

“Formless” is like air

この世に存在しながらも

 it exists in this world,

実体を得たり、得なかったりする現象を例えている。

 it also represents the phenomenon that obtain form or formless.

その空に関して分かることは

What can understand about emptiness(formless) is

空気のように目に見えないことや対象も

 an invisible thing or a subject like air

空気の元素のように存在しているから

 it exists like an element of air.

目に見えないからと言って

無いとは言えないことであろう。

It cannot be said nothing because of it cannot be seen.

また、目に見えたからからと言って

それらが不変しない訳ではなく

Also, visible in sight but it does not mean immutable.

水が蒸発するように

As water evaporates

やがては見えたものも

The thing can be seen at last also

存在として見えなくなるとのことでもあろう。

It will not be seen as an existence.

 

平衡の中心点Central point of Equilibrium

陰と陽

Shadow and Brightness

プラスとマイナス

Plus, Minus

肯定と否定

Affirmation and Denies

静と動

Static and Dynamic

明と暗

Light and Dark

苦しみと幸せ

Suffering and Happiness

それらの対極現象は

対になっている単のものである

Those counter electrode phenomena are

-a singular consists with pairs  

磁石も陰極と陽極があって磁場になり

Magnet also makes electric field with minus pole and plus pole

電流を発生させている

Both poles outbreaks electric current

プラスとマイナスがあって

加わったり減ったりする加減になる

There are plus and minus and they make measurement

-with addition and subtraction

肯定が無いと否定は指定できない

Denial cannot be specified without affirmation

否定が無いと肯定できない

Cannot affirm without denial

静の状態で動が見える

Can be seen a motion in a static state

動の動きは静に向いて働く

Dynamic of movement works to be state

苦しみを得て幸せになる

Be happy throughout suffering

幸せもやがて苦しみになる

Happiness eventually becomes suffering

それらの対極性は常に片面だけで表れ

These parings always appear on one side

もう一方の片面は意識できる領域から隠れる

And the other side hides from the aware range

意識は常に全体を照らすことができないので

Since consciousness cannot illuminate all over for whole picture

一面を見せてそれらが認識できると

It shows one side and when after recognizing it

次の一面を見せてくれる

-it shows the following side

意識自体では対になっている全体像を見ることはできない

With consciousness it is impossible to see the entire picture of paring

心が流れている時

When mind is flowing

流れていく方向は見えるが

The direction of flowing is visible

流れてきた原点は見えない

-but the starting point of flowing is invisible

だが、坐禅を行うと

However, when do zazen

陰と陽、プラスとマイナス

肯定と否定、静と動

苦しみと幸せ、明と暗などの対極性が

Such counter electrodes

Shadow and Brightness, Plus and Minus

Affirmation and Denies, Static and Dynamic

Suffering and Happiness, Light and Dark

同時に、一か所の同時空間の中で

動きを持つ静けさで現れてくる

They appear as serenity which has dynamism

-in single dimensional space at same time

坐禅の行為その無動は

The action of immobility of zazen

対極にある現象の境目であり

It is a boundary point of phenomena at counter electrodes

片面から両面を見渡せる中心点になる

It becomes central point where can look around from one side to both

文法と心法その無法Grammar and Mental way its None-rule

文は文法に従って書くべきだ

A sentence should be written based on grammar

だが、私の和文や英文は

正しい文法の書き方に従って書かれていない

However, my writing of Japanese with English translation

-do not obey on correct grammar and usage

何故なら、文法の正しさより

視覚的な見た目を優先したいからだ

There are reason for this, including my priority on this blog for visual appearance

Above grammatical correctness

文章中にコンマや句読点を正しく使わないことにより

読む人が文脈流れを把握するのに

困難を招くことは承知している

I acknowledged readers might have difficulty understanding

The context flow of my composition without correct use comma and other  punctuation marks

ではなぜ、文法を無視した書き方をするのか

What are the other reasons I ignore perfect grammar?

文には概ね二つの種類に別けることができる

Generally, sentence can be divided into two types

  ① 公に情報を伝達する文

  To publicly convey information

  ② 個人の思考を表現する文

  To express individual thought

私の文の場合は2番目の個人の表現に当たるので

In my case sentences hit second kind 

自らの価値判断によって

公の文法形式を無視した書き方をしている

So, I am writing on my own way 

Ignoring public acceptable grammatical form based on my value judgement

言わば、私個人の心の法とも言えよう

Like speaking with my individual mental laws for expression

文法は決まった決まりを守ることに

存在価値があり意味を成すが

Grammar itself, of course,has great value

-when followed to the decided rule

心法は決まった決まりが無い

-but in mental law there is no decided rule

他人がある自己に対し

普遍的な心の持ち方を守るように強制できない

It is unable to force for someone to grasp

-a non-existent universal mentality

他人の幸せは他人の価値判断の結果であり

私の幸せにはなれない

Someone’s happiness is the result of their judgement of value

-and it cannot be my happiness

人に幸せ感を与えることができないのも

人それぞれ心の法があるからかも知れない

People can’t give feeling of happiness to others

-because of each person may have their own mental laws

以前の仕事では生徒に正しい文法を教えていた

In my previous work as a teacher, I taught correct grammar to students

その時に気づいたことは

The thing I realized at that time

生徒はいくら先生が文法上の間違いを指摘しても

-a teacher invests much time identifying students’ grammar mistakes

その当の本人が決まりを守ろうとする気持ちが無いと

同じミスを繰り返すということだった

But students continue repeating the same mistakes unless they feel

-the rule from their own decision

正しいか正しくないかを判断することは

The judgement whether it is correct or not

他人が外側からある自己の内部に向かって

決めてくるルールのように見える時がある

-Someone shows like a rule that someone tries to lead others

-with their own rules from outside to inside

感じ方や考え方をある方向に誘導するようにも見える

It also induces a certain direction

-how to feel and how to think

そのような決まりことには

Such kind of rules limit

感じたり考えたりする領域が制限されるような感じがする

-my range of feeling and thinking 

私は私の書き方の間違いを正当化したいとは思わないが

I do not want to justify my writing mistakes but

近頃、勝手な書き方を指摘される頻度が多くなったのもあり

-recently I have had my selfish mistakes pointed out many times

それらについて私の言い訳も含め

私の流義を明らかにしなければと思うようになった

So, it makes me think that I should clear my writing style

-including my excuses about it

正しい書き方に従って書くことは

書く人の責任でもあるが

Error free work is a writer’s responsibility

私はわざわざ非難を浴びる書き方をしている

However, I have been writing a purpose to take criticism

非難を覚悟してスタイルを守る

I stay in my style even when condemnation would come

他人の判断基準で自らのスタイルを崩したくないのだ

I don’t want to bend my own style with someone else's decision criteria

それが無法で私の心法でもある

That is my mental lawlessness
