アメリカ、ニューヨーク州ジェネセオで毎年開催されるF.A.C.(フライング・エーセス・クラブ）コンテスト、スケール機を愛する人にとっては一度は参加してみたいと思う超ビッグ・イベントです。
カナダはもちろん最近ではイギリスからも参加する人がいます。このコンテストに毎年参加している友人トム・ハルマンが製作した２０１０年の参加記を紹介します。過去にも彼のリポートがF.A.C.の会報や模型雑誌等で紹介されていますが、今回はネット専用に作られたものです。
製作から飛行準備、そして車での長距離ドライブ、友人との再会、すべてが模型の世界でしか味わえない心温まる記録です。
今回ピーナッツ・スケール・クラスに参加した彼の「三菱1MF1」はウオルト・ムーニー・アワードを獲得しました。その紹介文の中には「もし、私が長年多くのモデラーからインスピレーションや寛大さを受けていなかったら、私は既に興味を失っていたでしょう。その友人の中で最初に名前が出てくるのは・・・・」 うれしいじゃありませんか、そんなに誉めてもらえるなんて！

"Words can't expression the emotions I felt later that night at the banquet when the peanut Mitsubishi was given the Walt Mooney Award. A crowning moment for sure. But if not for the inspiration and generosity from so many modelers over the years, I may have lost interest long ago. On the top of the list would be Jiro Sugimoto. He more than anyone has consistently raised the bar in peanut scale. Just when you think it's at the peak, Jiro pushes it not one, but a few notches higher. His models are a sight to behold and admire. Add to that they fly, and fly well. Free-flight at its best. So thanks, Jiro, thanks for the many years of inspiring modelers around the world. You've set the standard that we all hope to achieve someday. I was honored to have received the Walt Mooney Award at Geneseo, honored on your behalf."
