What follows is a rather revolutionary, all routes at a glance type map.
My earlier attemts were all fragmentary in that at best local groups of routes were shown one group at a time (and single routes most of the time), and by pressing individual bottons without much guidance as to what may emerge at the press of a particular button.
Original ASDP HP is as follows.
http://www.indonesiaferry.co.id/
Original PELNI routes are found in: http://harga-promo.net/
We do not want that. We first of all want to see the whole of Indonesia served by ASDP. Upon doing that, we then want to see:
1. more details
2. how a particular route may or may not connect to another route, in its vicinity or failing that after a (possibly long) bus journey aross an island
3. how it may or may not connect to other ferry operators such as PELNI
My new map will have 3 layers. One will be dedicated to PELNI nationwide routes.
The other two layers are both for ASDP, as shown below.
What is being shown at this stage is only "Komersil" part of this list.
Right now, I have no idea how "Commerce" is different from "Pioneer" (these are the translations of these titles). I have therefore sent an E-mail of enquiry to ASDP. There is no guarentee that I will know the difference.
So, Komersil part of ASDP routes have been written into one layer and soon Perintis part will be written into the second layer. Eventually, all PELNI routes will be assembled into the third layer.
We will then be able to see all routes at once, all ASDP routes and all PELNI routes on the same single map to see how best we can use it to plan for connections.
Since this combined route map is based on the Google map we can view it in the normal way.
We already see that, for instance, almost all of ASDP operations are quite localised. PELNI operate much more extensively and that is where this map will be useful as this will show us how ASDP and PELNI routes may overlap in some regions.
ASDP "Komersil" routes are now in black. "Perintis" routes will be in red, and all PELNI routes will be shown in green in colour.
All markers are even now clickable and when clicked they will show their port names.
Routes are also clickable and once clicked they will show you what the route names are, how much are the fares for adults/children, what boats are available, and other operational information at a glance.
Right now, all this is in the language of Indonesia, but pretty soon I will translate all entries into English.
It is clear that the world at large will be benefitting from this map and I am rather proud of it. It also helps me a lot in my own planning.
If you take a good look at this map between the Banda chain of islands and the southern part of Surawesi you will notice that there is no route. It is almost unbelievable and my gut feeling is that those route are on the "Pioneer" part of ASDP list.
In case "Pioneer" only carry non-human cargos I interrogated the system for Nalahia-Amahi and the result is what you can see below.
This does say that an adult can travel for IDP 25,500 on Tuesdays and Saturdays and the journey time is 3 hours and half.
So, there are actually more routes than meet the eye at the moment. I will be excited to see two layers of ASDP at the same time.
