The parents of a 50-year-old man who died at a psychiatric hospital in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, have filed a lawsuit seeking approximately 57 million yen in damages, claiming that the hospital's failure to supervise and patrol the hospital was the cause of his death.
According to the lawsuit, Takeshige Hatsuda (50 years old at the time) was admitted to the psychiatric hospital Akashi Tsuchiyama Hospital in 2019 due to schizophrenia.
Hatsuda was hospitalized in an isolation room that could be locked from the outside for about two years from immediately after his admission, but in April 2021, he was found in the isolation room, having choked to death on his breakfast bread.
Hatsuda's parents have filed a lawsuit seeking 56.83 million yen in damages, claiming that the hospital failed to supervise and patrol the hospital during meals.
At a press conference on the 26th, the parents said, "We trusted the doctors and believed that they were doing their best to treat us. It breaks my heart to understand what my son was feeling. We hope that no one like this will ever happen again."
In response to an interview, Akashi Tsuchiyama Hospital stated, "We cannot answer any questions."

It's hard to believe what on earth a psychiatrist does.
When a choking accident in an isolation room was reported, psychiatric hospitals immediately banned bread from serving meals to patients in isolation rooms and protective rooms. There are countless cases of choking in psychiatric hospitalized patients. So why do you think psychiatric hospitalized patients chok? The cause is "treatment." When it comes to psychiatric treatment, "pharmacotherapy" is considered the first choice. Since choking occurs as a side effect of taking psychiatric drugs, hospitalization must be done with caution. Let's take a quick look at the relationship between the side effects of psychiatric drugs and choking deaths. Side effects of drugs: ① Extrapyramidal symptoms Continued use of psychotropic drugs causes extrapyramidal symptoms called EPS, which cause movement disorders. One of these movement disorders is a decrease in swallowing function (a decrease in the ability to swallow food). ② Anticholinergic effects Continued use of psychotropic drugs causes autonomic dysfunction, sympathetic dominance, and makes it difficult to live a calm life. Furthermore, when the sympathetic nervous system becomes dominant, the mouth becomes dry as a physical symptom to make breathing easier. This is called excessive dry mouth.
This is the state of patients who are long-term hospitalized in psychiatric hospitals, always drinking fluids such as tea and water.
In fact, if you put dry bread in a dry mouth, you are more likely to ingest it.
③ Taste nerve disorder
The nerves that control taste are damaged by the effects of psychotropic drugs, and taste becomes insensitive.
Long-term use of drugs destroys the brain nerves.
This leads to the next cognitive decline.
④ Cognitive decline, drug-induced negative symptoms
The side effects of drugs reduce cognitive function and overall brain activity, so primitive desires become stronger.
⑤ Closed environment
Finally, there is a cause due to isolation and confinement.
Life in a psychiatric hospital is limited to closed wards, so the entrances and exits are locked 24 hours a day and you cannot enter and exit freely.
It is the same environment as animals in a zoo.
Just like animals in a zoo, humans locked up in a closed environment have nothing to enjoy but the three basic needs: hunger, sleep, and sex.
Therefore, they eat quickly because school lunches are their only source of enjoyment.
People who have taste disorders and cannot taste food unless they eat a lot of food quickly tend to eat quickly.
As a result, they will swallow dry food.
So who is responsible for choking accidents in psychiatric hospitals?
I think there are three sources of responsibility: 1. psychiatric care, 2. family, and 3. Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare.
1. psychiatric care
Drug damage, which can only be described as the adverse effects of drug therapy.
In other words, choking death due to a medical illness.
2. family
It is the responsibility of the family that hospitalized them.
Many of the people who are admitted to psychiatric hospitals are "recluses" and "people who get violent at home."
Families have to rely on psychiatric hospitals to look after their older children who can no longer live with them.
There seems to be a problem with the education system and child-rearing environment that produce "hikikomori who become violent at home."
③ Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare
Finally, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare "recognizes this system as medical care."
And the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is responsible for maintaining a medical fee system that allows hospitals to operate even if hospitalization is prolonged.
① and ③ can be avoided if patients are not hospitalized in psychiatric hospitals.
However, child-rearing and home education are the basis for preventing ② "hikikomori."
Is there a solution to "child-rearing that produces hikikomori"?
~~~~~~~~~~~
The medical field has become a dumping ground for social nuisances such as the elderly and hikikomori.
Each and every one of us humans is born with a value in life.
However, in order to bring out that value, each person needs to make an effort.
If the direction of that effort is wrong, they will be pushed out of society, lose confidence, and become "hikikomori."
How can we make our individual talents shine?
Are we guaranteed success if we study hard for exams or play sports?
No.
Unfortunately, the Rapt Blog makes it clear that only 1% of people are guaranteed success, and that only the 1% of people in the upper class are guaranteed success.
Even if they do succeed, they will be tricked by the upper class and their life will take a downfall.
Experts lecture us that there is no right way to raise children, but that is not true.
There is a right way to raise children.
It's just that the experts out there don't know.
How should we raise children in this complex society?
If we know how to do this, we can protect our children from psychiatric treatment.
I hope that by reading the following article about the right way to raise children and putting it into practice, people who are struggling with child-rearing and social withdrawal will find relief.
