President Donald Trump authorized a special forces operation targeting Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic terrorist group ISIS, and the military says that the ISIS leader was successful killed during the mission.
“Amid reports Saturday of U.S. military helicopters over Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, a senior Pentagon official familiar with the operation and Army official briefed on the matter told Newsweek that Baghdadi was the target of the top-secret operation in the last bastion of the country’s Islamist-dominated opposition, a faction that has clashed with ISIS in recent years,” Newsweek reported. “A U.S. Army official briefed on the results of the operation told Newsweek that Baghdadi was killed in the raid. And the Defense Department told the White House they have ‘high confidence’ that the high-value target killed was Baghdadi, but further verification is pending.”

The head of Daesh, the outlawed terror group also known as ISIS/ISIL, has reportedly been beheaded; US troops targeted its spiritual leader in a special operations raid. Little is known about arguably the most feared terrorist leader since Osama bin Laden, who was reported dead or injured in different operations as often as the late al-Qaeda chief.
The operation, which was authorized a week ago by the president, was carried out on Saturday by U.S. special forces after they received intel on al-Baghdadi’s whereabouts.
Baghdadi joined Al-Qaeda in Iraq after being released from custody in 2004 and rose up the ranks of the Islamic terrorist group as acquired other groups and eventually became ISIS.

アメリカのトランプ大統領はアメリカ軍がシリアで過激派組織ＩＳ＝イスラミックステートの指導者、バグダディ容疑者を標的にした軍事作戦を実施し、バグダディ容疑者が死亡したと発表しました。
アメリカのトランプ大統領は27日朝、日本時間の27日夜10時すぎにホワイトハウスで演説し、アメリカ軍の特殊部隊がシリア北西部のイドリブ県で過激派組織ＩＳの指導者を標的にした軍事作戦を実施し、バグダディ容疑者が死亡したと発表しました。
それによりますと、潜伏先でバグダディ容疑者はアメリカ軍に追い詰められてトンネルに逃げ込み、身につけていた爆発物をみずから爆発させて、死亡したということです。
トランプ大統領は「バグダディ容疑者の捜索と殺害はわれわれの政権にとって最優先の安全保障上の懸案だった。世界はこれでさらに安全になった」と述べ、作戦の意義を強調しました。
バグダディ容疑者をめぐっては2017年にロシア軍による攻撃で死亡した可能性があるという情報が出たものの、その後、たびたび本人のものとされる音声がインターネット上に投稿され、ことし４月には、ＩＳがバグダディ容疑者だとする人物が攻撃を続けるよう呼びかける動画を投稿していました。
2014年にシリアとイラクにまたがる地域に一方的にイスラム国家の樹立を宣言したＩＳに対し、アメリカは掃討作戦を続けており、指導者のバグダディ容疑者が死亡したと発表したことをうけて、ＩＳとの戦いは大きな節目を迎えることになります。
