Giant table spoons, Chinee spoons

Conchita, today was not much different from any other days.
Coating continued, the last lot retrieved, now
resting in my bdroom.

Since I will depart for Okinawa tommorrow morning
they will have to wait for any other cares...

Take a look at the cubes.



They have been rounded at the edges, ready to be
assembled and coated. I am very much interested
in the outcome.



I, yes, and that took up a lot of time today,
went out to buy some more nails. With the three
nailing beds I went tripple density with one of them.

Today's shopping was for me to go double density with
the rest. I bought some other pieces, as can be seen here.

Do not ask me what good they might be turn out
to be, because I dot know. Typically, they
sit dle in my bedroom, for quite a while...

before I come up with ideas. Cubes are the best
example...



The work on regular spoons continued.



Here, they are very close to their final shape.



This last one, yes, very large spoons to be,
giant spoons. I am convinced they wil sell
at a price, simply because my wife uses one

very frequently. She has made sadistic comments on my
works, but with this giant spoon she appears
to be happy...

In addition, I have deep cavity semi-giants up
my sleeve. They might sell well...

Anyway, I will be off to Okinawa tommorrow.
Logging will be halted for some time.

Pan placer, toast placers, spoons

Conchita, my trip with my wife to Okinawa is
now set for Sunday. Logging will be halted for
a few days.

You know my pieces have been taking turns.
These are some of those I need to work on
during the course of this evening.

I think they are lovely.



A lot of my time today was spent on going out
with the girl A to her new shop, inspection and
all that. So, I had little time for anything else.



Regular spoons were worked on, though.



Here above, you are looking at those convexed.
Actually, there are more completed today.



These constitute my perrenial problems. What
am I expected to do with these? These are
redundant pieces from the sides of the currently

fabricated regular spoons. One thing is clear.
I must add values to whatever they are to become,
eventually.

That must mean adding side bars, I think. Unlike others,
which are wider, these are narrow pieces and the only
thing I can think of is single pronged piercers.

Do not ask me what good or use they might have, because
I just do not know...



On this last image, yes, I did spend some time.
The idea was that this might serve as a toast placer.
My gut feeling now is that it is not on.

I think it is the gaps between the cubes, making it
not quite attractive for the placer. This is perhaps
only good for pot placers. Pity...

I have a mail now, saying that my new milling
machine will arrive here on 28th. Can you see
grooves at the right corner of the cubes?

My current milling machine is not powerful enough
and I had to run the bit three time for any one of
these grooves. With the new machine, this will be

reduced to a single run/groove.

Giant and Chinese spoons, milling machine

Conchita, it is awfully cold today.

In fact, today is the first in this season
when I felt my fingers were cold, that cold...

My wife and daughter are well on their way to
Sicilly, just as planned. Our Okinawa trip
has been postponed, but it will be

some time next week, I think. My own Borneo
trip (expoloratory) will be some time in April,
rather than in March. My wife wants me to go

after they are back from Sicilly, which is fine
by me. I am free al the time, anyway...

Conchita, now take a look at what follows.



These are part of the cubes, 12 of them, bought
from a 100 yen shop, and also a set of 30 pegs again for
JPY 100.

The idea is this. When properlyy connected the
assembly will work as a saucepan placer.



The smaller one here is for a pot to sit on.
All of these wil be coated, but not on the top.

You may think I am going an easy way, but I am not!
Think how you may connect them, not that easy.
How exactly can you make holes and how accurately

can you control the hole depth? How would you go
about the coating. The top surfaces will not be
coated for obvious reasons, but how would you

ensure the process?

On top of that, these cubes will be also decorated
with groves and lines. The, I need a milling machine
for engraving and all the rest of it.

A new machine will be paid for tommorrow, with the
delivery expected just before they set out for Sicilly.



Above?, yes, I had three of these. The first one
was done with yesterday, single density. Today,
I was going for uble and tripple density.

It is taking up a lot of my time, but then...



Here, a little blurred, but these will be coated, and
eventually sold, I think.



So will be these, additional infant feeders and
the lot (not seen).



This last one, these are regular spoons, at long last.
4 of these will go to K's shop and the rest to the
new shop, C, which is the name I call it by.

I have a feeling that my son might end up in India,
more perhaps on that later...

Giant spoons, connifer table ladles

Conchita, I made a great discovery today. I had
been thinking about this a while. It is a momumental
discovery.

I will talk about it in a sec. In the meantime take
a look at what follows. Most of these are
runners-up to the last batch, which is

going through coating processes.



Most of these are Chinese spoons with short stemmes
plus small salt spoons. The significance of this photo
is that two different bacthes are simultaneously

being coated UPON SOUND DRYING.



Here above, you are looking at another of my
trimmers. Today's discovery centres around this.

This is a very expensive trimmer, costing twice
as much as those you will see shortly. Expensive,
because it has a nasty electronic circuit

built in it so that it starts slow and gradually
runs up to its maximum rotation at something like
12,000 rpm.

At this rotational speed the Joule heating due
to friction is so much, that it leaves burn marks.



That is precisely why I bought this speed controller.
One added bonus is that you do not want expensive
trimmers. All you want is those with simple

carbon brush contacts.



These two here above are those I am talking about.
Typically, they can be had for JPY6,000.

It all started with the opetional time limit for the one
on the right. Compared to the one on the left
this seemd to reach its operational limit

much quicker. The reason is much too obvious.
The torque at low rotational speeds is smaller.
So, you tend to pushi it against the work harder.

Yes, it is a vicious circle. My thinking, therefore,
was what if I used my expensive trimmer at its
regular rotational speed.



To put it in a nutshell, it worked. Burn marks
can be dealt with, my thought...
In fact, the cutting or sanding power with my

SPIKY was staggering. It was just like scooping
cream with a spoon! You might need a bit of a time scale.

If you use a reduced speed bit my guestimate of the
time for this large cavity is 10 minutes. With the
discovery it is down to something like 5 minutes.

You may wonder why not 2,3 minutes. The anser is this.
It is so fast removing the mass you must be careful
in applying the pressure. As I get more used to

this huge abrasive power I can do better, I think.
There is more to this than just that. Almost
certainly because of its abrasive power abrasion is

isotropic! You do not worry about the direction
in which you are pointing the bit. Can you
top that!?

Yes, on reflection I have come a long way.
Here I am, though, finding myself in a totally
new realm of abrasive power. I just feel like

crying on your shoulder, Conchita.



Today's session end ed with shaping up the templates
for the deep cavity table ladles. I am dead certain
that the new discovery will also work wonder

with deep concave surfaces!

Chinese spoons, infant spoons

Most, if not all, of my time today was spent on
making extra nail beds. Obviously, I need a qauntity of nails
and the first thing to do was to drive to a 100 yen shop.



This is a low density bed (right) and I am
going to make three of these. It is my gut feeling
that I will be making more and more of large objects.

I do not need high density beds for them.



This is a high density bed. You can place small items
without wowrrying too much about the possibility of them
falling into the gaps. In fact, the density of this

particular bed is such that it took me a few days,
as I remember it...



Today, I ran out of drying space. What you are looking at,
Conchita, is a wire mesh. This made me think...

This wire mesh has a very large area. Yes, it is a wire net.
I thought of two things. One is that after all I may
not need nail beds for the first two penetration

coatings. This is primarily because during the first
two steps polyuretane will not emerge up to the
surface. That means my objects can safely rest

on the wire mesh. And, my second thought relates to that.
No nail beds for the first two steps, fine, but
after that I will still need my nail beds.

Polyurethane saturation after the thrid coating,
as in most cases, does require pointed supports.
That is why I decided to make more of the nail beds.

Quite apart from all this I always thought I could do with
extra nail beds. It is therefore high time that
I made them.



By large objects, I mean something like these above.
You can see that two of my infant feeders are
squeezed between giant objects.

I could place a lot of these small objects on the
same bed. That will make my life a lot easier.

The wire mesh, by the way, has another merit, if I come to
think about it. It is this. Penetration coating is such an
important stage in my coating and my objects

need an ample time for drying and post coating
processings, such as wet sanding and polyp removal.
Up until now my coating has been one of continous

operation. Surface buildup immediately after
the third of the penetration coating. With the
wire thing, I could treat a lot more of

my objects to the penetration than my nail beds
can cope with. That would be fine, because
what cannot go on to the nail bedding stage

they can wait and dry even longer. That suits me fine.



Above? Yes, I bought these at the same 100 yen shop.
The idea is this. They are all of broad leaves. That means
I can coat them, and even sell them?

Just take a look at the fourth picture of today, those
disk like objects. I did not make them. I just bought them
off the shelf for JPY 150 each.

They are also of broad leaves and I knew that I will be
ble to make them rise and shine from their obscure
origin.

Am I cheating? No, I don't think so. I am simply adding more
values. I, of course, stand to be challenged.
